Autumn Shores by Alex_ADEdge

made by Alex_ADEdge for LD 44 (JAM)

Autumn Shores is a game/prototype about exploration and sailing. Lost on an island, head out and uncover the mysterious infinity st.. erm, gems. Each contains a mysterious power lost to the world (seriously, I didnt get around to implementing the magical upgrades bit). Unlocking all of these gems is the endgame. But as with anything, time (ie your lifespan) is against you (a kind of currency?), so dont take forever!

Its certainly a very half-baked-and-broken version of the game I was envisioning, but a complete enough game to mess around in - with some elements Im pretty happy with! The boat physics, buoyancy, object dragging and wind system in particular turned out really well and I felt like the graphics developed nicely throughout the jam. The final 12 hours of the gamejam were a mad rush to implement the last few features needed to be anything close to playable and I spent a good deal of time building a bunch of unique, far-off islands to explore.

I really havent had time to properly play-test much, but I know the distances between islands are likely too large. I wanted some level of epic scale to the game but there was meant to be more interesting content on the way to the outer islands, which I simply didnt get around to creating during the jam.

30/04 Ive uploaded a minor updated version of the game to include some bug fixes to a few systems that were broken (re-spawning, death, music and wind etc) and brought the islands closer together (theyre still pretty far away tho)

Its super buggy, youre not guaranteed to get a new boat if the one you have gets ruined and be prepared to be as lost and confused as the main character! I very much doubt anyone will get to the winning condition due to difficulty/boredom - but prove me wrong! I havent even completed the game yet in 1 shot so if someone else can, throw a screenshot in the comments!

Open to any c&c.

With such little time, I would recommend focusing on one or two specific elements/islands. Nonetheless, the graphics (especially the water) are amazing. Only graphical complaint is to maybe add in some sort of Anti-aliasing considering how many edges there are.

@hexiez123, thanks for the feedback! Youre definitely right about focusing on just a few elements, my greatest issue in these jams is getting stuck on things that arent very important. When it comes down to it, making the individual islands was pretty quick, but some other features that barely even came into the game (like object dragging) I wasted way too much time on. That time could have certainly gone into making better islands and more engaging content between islands (one of the main things I think is lacking).
Ive uploaded a hotfixed version earlier in the week with a couple of game breaking fixes and I did enable Anti-aliasing, it was just a single tickbox I forgot to hit before publishing!
