Highway Trouble by Code Dream

[raw]
made by Code Dream for LD 41 (JAM)

A brave driver has set off to a dangerous night drive full of crazy maniacs. As if those lunatics are not enough, he also has to battle the need to sleep. So he plays a game ever so often!

Use A and D to change lanes and WASD to solve the mini game. Enjoy!

The minigame either didn't work for me, or I kept doing it right. Visually the cars were on top of each other but the game kept going.

Someone flagged the file as a malware so Google removed it from the Drive.. I uploaded it to Dropbox so now everything should work. Sorry for the inconvenience!

It wasn't clear during the minigame that I didn't need to worry about my driving. Nice mood, otherwise.

A simple but surprisingly addictive and fun game, I liked it
There was also a small glitch where I think my car fell through the world or something, but the game didnt end

Very accurate highway simulator. Anyhow as for feedback, being fully taken out of the game for the quicktime event minigame felt a little off. Maybe you coud've slowed down the game somewhat and then do the QTE's at the same time as driving (Would also fit a text and drive narrative :D).

Outside that the controls are responsive, the graphics simple but clean and a chill soundtrack so still a good entry! :)

Loved that I would get hooted at :joy:

The mini game felt a bit out of place though.

All in all, neat little game.

I like the aesthetic. Music is nice. Cars are a tad buggy after the minigame, but I can look past that. I'd like something else going on on-screen during the minigame to signify that you're getting sleepy, but I'm nitpicking. Cool game!

A bit unforgiving, I could easily get trapped with no way of not colliding. Still, pretty charming and I love the fact that the cars honk at you and you get a chance to switch lanes.

Cool gameplay, i found it hard x) but it's probably just me. Still enjoyable. Good job

The windows version worked for me. But you put a zip in a zip so we have to de-compress twice, but it's worth it :)

The positive:
* Very relaxing
* Good looks and aestetics
* Simple game play but not boring

The less positive:
* Just when the minigame ends, the collide is de-activated on the player I guess, and it happens a lot that other car ghost trough the player car.
* Showing the control in-game may be nice, just a text on the top for a few seconds when the game start.

A very good entry! good work

Music was good and it was fun to play, But i was a lil confused about why were cars flying and landing on top of each other??

Its more a relaxing than challenging game because of the music and the difficulty i think. Car assets are really cute ^^.

Fun to play, the motion of slow and fast cars, as well as the AI switching lanes lead to a few very funny bugs. I liked the concept of minigames while driving, but was a bit easy. What I most loved about it, was the cool light effect of cars behind and passing, looked amazing.

A nice idea. However the behaviour felt sometimes very inconsistent (for example on my first run the cars were just passing through me where as on some runs when I switched lanes without even touching the car on the other lane it reset the level)

Also when reaching ~160 or so the change of graphics started to hurt my eyes unfortunately.

A neat game never the less, I enjoyed playing!

I liked the mood! The hoot was quite jarring against the soft music piece.
Just after doing the QTE cars could drive through me and the collisions didn't matter anymore.
Cute aesthetic, really wanted a driver to pop his head out the car and show some rage!

Nice relaxing game. The music was really good and graphics were excellent. The AI was really cool to watch and the variation in car types was cool to see. Because of the acceleration if you play to about 300 the background scenery goes kinda crazy. As mentioned by some of the other commentors, collisions when you come back to the were kinda off. I like how the car starts flying when you start the minigame. Good job.

Since so many of you mentioned the 'collision problem', it's actually not a bug but a feature (not an excuse!). When you drop down from the mini-game, you have a couple of seconds to re-adjust your position in order to continue, otherwise there would be a high chance that you would just crash into someone immediately..

Visual feedback after minigame would be cool. Overall I like the entry - it seems quite polished (no sluggish movement, camera issue, etc.).

It could use a bit better UI than Unity default (but it is perfectly understandable due to time).

Keep up the good work!

I quite like the visual aesthetic and the music's pretty good. I feel like there could have been more going on with the minigame though, maybe having to keep in time to a rhythm or having to memorise and repeat a series of arrow presses would have added a bit more depth to those segments and made them more engaging.

Great low poly graphics. Fun mood. The staying awake minigame felt a little apart from the rest of the game.
The frenetic drivers are funny but it makes the gameplay fell a bit unfair as sometimes there's no way to avoid a crash.
Keep on!

Love the theme and the whole driving simulator thing

What I would do is save the puzzles for road obstacles like construction work, roadblocks, car crashes...

Also maybe put some petrol that needs to be gathered on the road to give the evading mechanic even more challenge then just avoiding cars

Great intro to a possibly really fun game :)

If you can check out mine :)
