Quibble Quarrel by TJ101010

[raw]
made by TJ101010 for LD 42 (JAM)

LD42-QQ-Fight1.PNG The Quibbles are fighting about something. Not quite sure what, but they're getting pretty into it.

Take control of a Quibble and knock the goo right out of your opponent. Collect his goo and add it to your own! But watch out, the stage gets smaller as time goes by.

Controls: - A: Move Left - D: Move Right - W: Jump - F or Rt Shift: Attack - S + Attack while on the ground: Uppercut - Attack while in air: Air Smash

Remember,

There is no defeat! (But there is a loser...!)

There is no surrender! (Just another loser...!)

Victory is yours! (Unless you are the loser...!)

PS: We would really appreciate it if you can leave comments about the game so we can keep improving it after Ludum Dare!

That was great! Was much easier to control once I found out I could attack with shift also, should add that to the controls list. :D

The gameplay felt smooth. It is confusing when the voiceover suddenly changes the next time you play the game haha... Just keep it consistent.

Thank you for the feedback @crazi456. The full control list is in the game's "How To" section in the game itself. We'll update the game link page soon :)

Damn!! This is a polished game.
The AI is pretty fun to play against. It would be more fun to play online with actual people.
You should definitely develop it further. :)

Very nice game, controls felt very good too!
Just the choice for the button that is used for the attack is a little questionable in my opinion.

@watdowtal We considered multiplayer, but decided to do that as a post-jam project if the game was received well. We focused on the single-player experience instead.

This is awesome. The assets are great. It's fun, humorous, and simple to play -- and the controls are presented so clearly that you'd have to be trying to miss them on purpose. I achieved my victories even as I was falling because the computer was knocked off first. Hilarious. Well done!

@calixjumio @heyycap We decided everyone should be part of the VO this time and it would randomly pick which one would be used each time. This was a good experiment. Thanks for your feedback!

I had fun playing this. My problem was it was a bit awkward to control and was a bit floaty. But other than that I enjoyed the text screen and the announcer's voice. Good work

Super fun! The controls could be improved, I felt like the Quibble was out of control. I like the announcer's voice and the 'Victory' shout. Well done.

Nicely done on the level of polish, the art is also really cute. The mechanics worked fairly well, but I found I ended up not actually needing to jump very much haha. Overall, well done, it was really fun to play!

@saucygames Your comment made me laugh out loud. :P Thank you for that. I feel like the game concept has a lot of room to grow if we put in more time.

Some ideas I had are: More weapons (not just boxing gloves) each with their own fighting style. Add a passive to each of the colors and allow you to choose your color and weapon to build a fighter that plays the way you like. Multiplayer (duh). Much more but I will hold off on that for now.

Thanks again for the laugh.

Very polished! Love the animations. Sometimes I couldn't move, maybe the enemy was too far away?

The polish is very nice, and it is a fun and short game.

There is a slight problem of accumulated disadvantage though (You start off small, which makes your range, speed and ability to gather goo weak, which means you are prone to get hit and become smaller and repeat the cycle). However, this doesn't really hurt the game too much since it is against an AI, but it might become an issue if you change it to a multiplayer game, so it might be something to keep in mind.

It was an incredibly fun game! I really liked the graphics and mechanics and multiplayer and epic air attacks are a must have in the post-jam version!

Music was good. The punching was satisfying and I liked growing bigger. Great clean graphics. But I think you have an FPS-dependent bug, you couldn't move left/right when playing at 144Hz or 165Hz. I switched to 60 and it ran fine!

Multiplayer when??

@Jamison Good find! I'll fix that if we do a post-jam version.

Wonderful game! At first it was difficult to grasp the goo collecting mechanic (well, I'm still not good with it), but still very fun to play. Nice theme match, cute graphics and very dynamic and fun gameplay!

@xanderrread We had it bound to MB1 at one point, but for whatever reason Unity was giving me lag on the button presses. I googled it and saw others were having the issues with MB1 lag and decided to just use the keyboard for now.

I really liked it! Audio and graphics are on point and the gameplay is innovative and fits into theme very well! My only concern would be difficulity settings. As far as I am aware it only changes size of your enemy? I found hard easier than easy because of increased size and decreased speed of the enemy. I only had to lead him to edge and jump over him. The enemy was to slow to change direction and would just fall off. Meanwhile on easy it took me 3 tries to beat the opponent because how fast he was. But besides this one issue it was really good, great job!

@sokuaisushi Also, it looks like you ran into the higher-than-60-fps bug. Sorry about that. Play in 60fps for full movement capabilities. We'll fix it if we make a post-jam version.

@tj101010 I was actually just about to play the game, and was streaming when I wrote that comment. I figured you wouldn't see the message for a while though. The VOD should be up now!

Thanks for the submission, and great job on this entry

This is a well made brawler and that one increase/decrease in size when fighting is a great touch. This makes the game more unique compared to other brawlers. Impressive that you manage to make a working AI for this! For ludum dare I often ignore multiplayer since I think the testers do not have time to test this. However, this game would probably be at its greatest in multiplayer. Maybe something for a post-jam... Great game!

It's really amazing that you can make all these graphics, animations, audio as well as the whole game in such a short time! The game is fun and also fit the theme. The menu BGM might sound a little soft but overall it's a well-put-together game!
