I say you achieved 100% success in your chosen Ludum Dare entry. The literal career ladder littered in sacrifice was a smart design. Also loved the character flickering back and forth between human form and a question mark.

Plus, music, music was great.

Fantastic idea, I loved the summary of all the sacrifices at the end of the game.

My one criticism would be that it sort of felt like you were a by-stander to the story, that it was just narrating events and you didn't have that much impact on what was happening in the game.

Very clever idea though, and interesting design :)

I'm not entirely a fan of the music, but the game concept is okay.

hmm in end it caused FF to break there is some memory leak. The second issue is that you don't really see the point at which conversation is ending I was stuck on ai conversation and it started to loop and it was hard to notice the end of it if you clicked down arrow every time.

You music was really good, but I didn't enjoy the gameplay very much. Its not that it was bad there just wasn't much to it which is fine. Your dialog is fantastic. Also I don't know if its intentional but did you realize you can skip talking to the computer twice in the first room by simply walking around it and heading stright into the door at the back of the room.

I liked the music a lot. There was a lot of humor in the game, and I liked discovering what I had done in the wrap-up section. Nice work.

Neat take on the theme, I liked the concept of choosing a profession like "wizard" and then climbing the career ladder for it, and sometimes needing to sacrifice personal relationships etc. in order to advance further. The dialogue boxes did seem a little choppy (maybe they could instead either animate in smoothly or just pop all at once) but the dialogue itself was entertaining. Nice retro graphics and fun submission overall!

Thanks for playing through & the positive & useful feedback so far everyone. :) It's always good to have a different perspective on my games. The vanilla version of the Bitsy engine only allows you to do so much - so unfortunately I don't have control over the text box size and how it appears, although it would be nice to be able to change that. I hadn't considered the problem with the looping text, so I need to work out how to make it more obvious that different text passages have finished.

I really like the idea of sacrificing "life" for your career. One thing that you should improve is having more texts for different events to avoid looping them. Music was nice and moody. It felt like I don't have a big control over my options tho. Good submission anyway and keep it up! :)

Nice idea! The writing is good, and the simple mechanism reminded me of the Reigns games. Unfortunately, as a player you only have a couple of decisions to make at each rung of the ladder, and these decisions have few impact on gameplay.

With more alternatives and meaningful choices I think it could be very good.

Love the pixel art was nice. The idea of advancing up a career ladder visualized by a literal ladder was cute too. Nice Krampus reference for the season. For replay value to explore all the different career paths it would have been nice to have a skip dialogue or shortened dialogue option.

A clever, compact game! I like that you are able to quickly click through the dialogue options in case you want to try out the other careers. I also love the four choices, they're quite unique ideas (especially the Krampus; a topical choice considering that the Krampuslauf was this month ^_^) The only downside I feel is that there aren't many opportunities to strategize your climb, I felt like, because there seems to be no difference in consequences beween broken hearts, vanished rivals, or unbalanced nature.

I really enjoyed playing this game. Good dialogues, simple but effective pixelart and catchy music. Great job!

I liked the different choices you could make based on limited movement! I wonder if there could be some setup to have movement with some branching, but I think how you did it is pretty minimal and still interesting. nice job!
