A much more interesting version of my take :D
Love that you are making the music, had that thought myself but didn't get to it, more of that! Maybe with some percussion or background instruments being added along the way.

An enjoyable, polished, little game.

The only criticism I can come up with is that the shapes sometimes overlap and spike up the difficulty, as it becomes hard to see which one is coming first.

49 was my high score. The game was relaxing but very engaging at the same time. There's so many things I enjoyed about this game. One, the aesthetic was very pretty and simple. Minimalism well pulled off, I love how the shapes morphed smoothly into each other. The notes played when you got a key right was very satisfying and really drew me into the game. It was almost therapeutic. Great fun, great visuals, sounded great. And one thing that really got to me was how you informed the player what each key did. Minimal interface - nothing but arrows. They disappeared as I pressed them and taught me what shape each arrow makes. I loved that part haha. Really good game!

Great work! the visual style is simple and great, the melodies you create by playing work very well and the animations between shapes are also smooth! Very polished!

A really nice little game once you get used to the controls and steeply increasing difficulty (very nice work with the "tutorial" in the beginning, it really helps getting along ;D)

Graphics are quite nice and the idea of making the music is good, but would be even better if there'd be some sort of percussions or subtle instrument tracks joining along with the game's progress.

One of the best I've seen so far!

It was a little too easy though, I stopped playing without losing :P

Would like to see it with some sort of predefined music.

Simple but perfectly executed; the best of this style of game I've played so far. The controls are simple, the transitions beautiful and the sounds relaxing. Awesome work.

Best game I've played so far! Simple, but very fun gameplay. Fitting sounds (although it would be cool if the player actually played a song instead of random sounds), great aesthetics and quite addictive.

The only negative aspect in my opinion is the rather steep learning curve. A tutorial that introduced every key separately would've been a more user friendly introduction.

GREAT GAME! Of course I have to say that because I went with a similar idea for my game, but a bit less intuitive. But yeah I think you did this really well. What's your personal high score? :)

It was very atmospheric, the sounds were nice. I was getting dizzy at times. It took a while to get used to which key is which shape, but once I got it into muscle memory, the game got quite easy. Got 145, then there were like 3 super fast shapes that killed me instantly. Is this intended?

I loved the way it changed shapes. Great execution of simple graphics.

Also, you should share your source code since you are in compo. I am really interested in how you made the shapeshifting look so smooth.

Thanks everyone for your replies, it's great to hear that everyone is enjoying the game :D:D:D

@BoltKey the link to the code was in the description but I added it to the links section too to make it easier to spot.

The shapeshifting is really simple: I modelled all four shapes in 3D using the same amount of vertices. Then I just interpolate using the Mesh API in Unity.

Very cool minimalist game, the design (audio and visual) reminds me of Mini Metro :)

18. Apr 2016 · 20:55 UTC
So elegant.
In the end it kind of sound like it's music when the shapes are coming quicker.
Sometimes I get small sequences that repeat creating some patterns in waves. Did you do that or it's just coincidence?

Congrats!

I like the game.
It was a little hard to remember the controls at first, but that's because my mind was trying to relate it to xbox controller colors (which it was close to with just the red and yellow being switched). After I got used to it though, I played it for quite a bit.

Love the minimalist visuals, but you could have left the controls on the screen as a reference, because I found myself just pressing keys until I hit the shape I wanted. Otherwise, a really fun simple game :)

Wow, lovely. Very zen - it was cool that the shapes overlapped in a kaleidoscope-y way, and it also made it more challenging. I liked that there was no key and you have to rely on your own knowledge of the shapes.

I think it would be fun to just play forever, but the ninja death shapes that come in around 150 are just too fast. It might be nice if there was a more gradual increase in difficulty.

Really well done!
When I was desperately trying to decide what game I was going to make, one of the things I had in mind was exactly this mechanic - however I have to say you really nailed it far better than I would have! I wouldn't have thought to make it so hypnotic and atmospheric. I really enjoyed playing.

Great idea. I liked the simple mechanics and the minimalistic visuals. I got the feeling that pacing took some time to build up, though.

After a first game with a miserable 2 or 3 points, I scored 139 on the second :)

Very relaxing game! It happened to me to be killed by a shape so fast I didn't even have the time to see, so in that regard some tweaking might be useful. Got to 145 points, so I can't complain too much I guess! :D

146. As in, one hundred fourty six.

For some reason it looked like, as I was prepared to accept a circle, a diamond suddenly rushed at insane speed and ended the game. O.o'

I quite enjoyed it. It's essentially a variation on the shape-gate endless runner, but it's one of the few games that does it right, not making player do some micromovements to fit into the slot or whatever; just changing the shape accordingly. Different sounds for crossing different shapes was a nice touch, too. Nice game to play for a little bit.
