[raw]
made by Sodaro for LD 43 (COMPO)

The game executable can be downloaded from here as well: https://sodaro.itch.io/rablat

Take on the role of an aging scientist, who has gotten tired of being called crazy! His latest invention has just been finished and is now about to be put in use for the first time.

Update: there is an updated version on the itch.io page which allows for resizing the window and fixes an unintended level skip in the last room

Genre: Adventure containing Point & Click and 2D Platforming elements. coverimage.png screenshot.png

The mix of genres was well implemented! I wish the point and click mechanic had a little more depth to it because when I saw it I was like WOW A POINT AND CLICK!! But I know that it's hard to do much in 48 hours. Overall everything was well done. Cool idea, friend! Congratulations for this :)

@shendev Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! The point and click part was the one I spent most of day 1 on, it was originally going to have a bigger part but as you mentioned, time was an issue

What a curious little game! I liked the ending. Very well done. (bit small on my monitor though, possible to have a larger version?)

I wonder all te what will append and the end was quit satisfying. (poor innocent rats haha)
When you feed the rat the firsts times it's just à the last that I ask myself if that all the game, so well design.

@arkiruthis Hello! Glad you liked it! I added a resizeable version to the itch.io page, unfortunately chrome seems to flag the file as malicious (I have scanned it and there were no threats found, so it's a false positive), but I was able to download it with another browser!

@nakami Glad you liked it! Originally the game idea was solely focused on the rats (more along with you working for a pharmaceutical development company.) However, I felt so bad for the rats so I made the reasoning slightly less "depressing"

Very nice game! In the end, the point and click + the "mario-like" game + the ending go very well together :)
I just wonder, why are there 2 colors on the dispenser?

What a sweet little gem! Although I wasn't quite sure what am I doing exactly. I was just feeding random stuff and somehow I got enough bottles to become young. When getting really young I left the lab and fell into darkness, turning into a rat.

Weird adventure of a mad scientist, loved it - 4/5!

PS: Was scientist drinking blood of the dead rats? :smirk:

@thomas-lacroix If you meant the different colored lights; they are there so that the player knows the button does something, even if nothing in the room changed that time. If you meant the empty dispenser sprite itself, it was supposed to give a bit of depth to the sprite (though the perspective is a bit messed up when I look at it now  )

@blodyavenger Yeah that was sort of the idea haha. Originally the idea was a bit more depressing, a random 20 year old working at a pharmaceutical company testing their drugs on rats, but I ended up changing it to be slightly more light-hearted (which also brought the 2D platformer aspect into the mix!)

A fun little game, had much fun playing it, and the point and click part made fun too. At first i didnt understand what to do, but then i went like "Sacrifice! Sacrifice! SACRIFICE!" and killed some rats.

Nice, good atmosphere. Controls worked really well.
The point-and-click was just the right difficulty for me, although I didn't see the need for repetition.

Those poor rats. What did they ever do to you Rablat? This is a good start, but I really want a more complicated machine to go through. Drug the mouse, carry it off, and onto the next screen. Of course, I'm not sure I would want to play a game where we process mice into drinks, but I was disappointed when the second rat just came on screen. Even still, I like the blend of genres, and I was delighted by the slow movement at the start.

@incobalt Haha yea I was originally going to make the machine more complicated, with different drugs and other things you had to do. I ended up putting that to the side though as I felt that concept was too depressing to make

Loved this experience and the combination of both styles. You essentially did LD41 and LD43 at the same time.

Really awesome game! I loved the story and the way it was presented. I actually wish you would turn this into a longer story. I also liked how you mixed between adventure and platforming mechanics.
