Just 2 Fast by M2tias

[raw]
made by M2tias for LD 40 (COMPO)

Just 2 Fast is a time attack racing game. Reach a goal time to advance the plot.

You are a newbie race driver. On your first day, you try out the new car. The mechanic is still working to make it "better" and wants you to test drive it.

NOTE: If you play the HTML5 version, it might not run 100%. Try the binary if you can't get 16 second lap time in the first track. Should work fine on Chrome on Windows.

Controls

Up - Accelerate

Down - Brake, reverse (use to back out from tires)

Left and Right - Steer

X - Used in menus

Z - Restart the level

Enjoyable game, pixel art is really endearing and the game is challenging (or I just suck at steering :P) but fun. Would have liked to hear some music and more sound effects, but I know time limits make that difficult

Very fun experience. Had a smile on my face the entire time once I realized the gimmick. Reminds me a lot of some old Mario Party minigames. Graphics and overall aesthetic were well done.

Really challenging, not used to topdown driving, never could manage it.

I think you managed to use the theme very well. Really, the more upgrades you got the worse it was. And you made it fun so that even if you hate the new upgrade you play through just to see what's next. Congratulations on your submission!

Fun car game!

Runs are fast and not boring. And it's cool that there are shortcuts...

I just had two bugs: after break, it seems that there is an "autobreack" mode, when you just release up key. And I do an out-of-bounds with running backward...

Nice work, really missed some more sound effects though :)

I loved that even the when the resolution of the graphics was super slow, the rotation of the car sprite was really smooth :D

That would've never happened on those machine in the way back :D

I loved the visual style of it and how snide the mechanic's remarks were. The controls were simple yet challenging and the level progression fit well with the theme. It would have been nice to have a more interactive experience since even if I finished the track in time the mechanic was still disappointed.

Nice simple retro game. Could use some sound effects, that would probably add a lot. I like how it looks pixelated but scrolls smoothly.

Really interesting project. Nice work on the retro aesthetic! However I don't like controls which are too weird. Also I guess that you could do a fully playable game fixing some bugs and adding features ++
