SYNOPSIS (Kind of)

Your robotic ~~slaves~~ crew members of SS Hoonose have caught on that you have a numeric power source, a power source only limited by the numeric ability of those that wear it. They turn against you, draining your power. You must survive as long as humanely possible, by shooting things and punching numbers into your keypad.

TURN DOWN YE VOLUME - The shooting noises are a little loud :)

CONTROLS

ASD/Arrows - Movement, but crouching does nothing Space - Shoot. Very Loud R - Open up power panel. Use with number keys to regain power. P - pause Number keys & Numpad - Number input

You die if you lose all power (WHITE BAR) or health (RED BAR). Over time, your power will decrease. The only way to replenish it is to PRESS R and quickly punch in the code shown on-screen into your numpad/number keys.

I didn't realise it was 48 hours as opposed to 72. Neh mind, first LD. All stuff was made by me, including the weird-ass sounds. Built in the MonoGame framework.

It's fun, but I don't really understand the concept

My ears hurt, also game randomly closed. Don't know if that's intended but it was fun for a bit. Crouching animation makes the player float.

Really good game! Pixel art well done, difficulty ramps up, follows theme,. Only complaint is shooting noise, but at least you have sounds.

I didn't quite understand the game. I didn't really like it too much, sorry!

Graphics are nice, but gameplay is rather lacking (stand back and press space)
also controls are not displayed anywhere (that i seen).
anyway, hope you had fun for your first LD :)

I like the concept, and the sprites are well made, but it is a bit too easy.

This is a rad concept, I like it! You've got solid pixel graphics too. I think just more polish and iteration on the gameplay is all it would take to make this into something really cool, as it's a bit simple right now. Thanks for participating!

Takes me back to the days of Contra :)

Challenging! Would play this again and again. Really amazed to see games like these being made in such a short period of time. Aspiring to be like you :)

Good luck and congratulations!

A surprisingly solid game, in my opinion -- I had a lot of fun playing it!

The gameplay mechanics were simple, yet polished, and using the numpad to type in the recharge codes was unexpectedly fun. (I think more games should use the numpad, it's really interesting control scheme :P)

My only criticism would be that it's a little on the easy side. I think making the power bar a bit smaller would fix this, since you would need to do the reload minigame more often, and it would really push the player's skills to the limit :)

Keep up the good work, I hope to see you again next Ludum Dare! :)

The game feels like it's not quite at the "minimum viable product" point yet, as the only thing you have to do is spam space and enter a code every so often. I imagine though, that with a little bit more time this game would have been a lot of fun, trying to focus on two things at the same time.

The game have potential :) Would have loved to see it more balanced as it seemed impossible to run out of power and die

Really liked the colors and game play. Goes well with the theme. Has a lot of potential though.

Cool graphics, although the characters could do with walking animations. I don't like that the game closes when you die, it should probably just restart at least.

Would have love to seen what you had planned for the full 72 hours, as it feels like a very interesting start to a game. I really enjoy having to balance between looking at the screen and firing and using the numpad to recharge, but once I realize I could just constantly spam space bar, it lost some appeal, so a more active combat mechanic would go a long way. Additionally, a keypad with characters might be nice for those without a numpad on their keyboard, as the arrow keys and number keys is a bit finicky. Still, a lot of potential, and what's there is really nice!

Cheers for the comments, people. It's really much appreciated <3 @everythingwasbees, I get what you mean about alternative characters, and funnily you can use your normal num keys as well as the numpad, but again, I had a little more planned for the full 72. Initially it was going to be something like Contra, but I ran into quite a few issues, including getting "levels" to work. It's all just C#, and it's really made me think about the component structure for making stuff like this. Personally, I can't wait for the next jam, as I feel I have a better grasp as to the scope of the game I should be attempting to make.

Cheers,

Will H :)

I really liked the animations and sprite in general, reminds me a bit of COntra, isn't it?
The concept is cool, maybe you should expand it with more variety of enemies and maybe more character to press in order to restore the power (like "._!?" to make it more difficult).
Nice work! :)
