Ah! Runaway! by Reign
ABOUT
Endless rhythm runner. Try not to get ran over! My first Ludum Dare jam.
How to play
Play using the four arrow keys. Press the arrow key that matches the arrows onscreen as they enter the highlighted area at the bottom left. Missing an arrow spawns obstacles which knock the player back. You lose when the player gets hit by the truck. The game gets faster and harder over time.
Future
A lot happened over the weekend so I only had around 4-8 hours to work on the game. Eventually, I want to finish the art, find better sound and music that matches the input timing, implement the ability for the game to require multiple inputs at a time, etc. I think it came out pretty well considering how long I worked on it myself though. The truck was supposed to be a horde of zombies and pressing certain directions was going to be more interactive like pressing up would make the player jump and something would spawn in time for the player to jump over it, but I didn't have the time. You can probably tell I had to rush at the last second to add the background and truck, that's why it's far less detailed than everything else. Hopefully I'll get to finish all that soon and if I do I'll upload a separate version on my itch.io.

But it's a very good concept :) (a little bit too hard x))
@tg1397 I was thinking the same thing! I've been debating how I might be able to do it and have a few ideas i'm going to try that could be a huge improvement.
@Akadream I'm not sure why but all the games I make are notoriously hard for some reason lol :p
The fact that the music was not on sync with the arrows made the game very difficult. It was quite enjoyable thanks to the music tho.
Keep up the great work!
@theArtifacts Thanks! Sure, i'll try your game now.
I just wanna throw in a suggestion to maybe make each genre more apparent. Instead of having the arrows to dictate the button you press, get rid of the DDR section, and work on art assets with a clear interaction (ex. a crate you will always need to jump over (up arrow), a door you need to charge through (right arrow), etc). You could make a few different iterations of assets with the same type of player interaction, and introduce them over time to train the users memory.
Just my 2 cents, I needed to throw it out there :)
Then after a few tries, I played just to see the graphics because I could not really see them while being focused on the lower part of the screen. And they are really great!
I think there is real potential in your game and in the ideas of @derek_brouwer, allowing the player to enjoy both the rhythm game and the infinite runner game and design.
For the time you passed on it this is really great I think: you have a cool and aesthetic game that works well, and people who enjoy it!
Oh and the music is awesome!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.
