Rat Hole City by MrChippy

[raw]
made by MrChippy for LD 39 (JAM)

In Rat Hole City you go around in tunnels and run away from buggaboos(bugs). If you touch buggaboo you die ;-;. If you get buggaboo to touch laser buggaboo turns into light. You are in the dark so you have a flash light. Your flashlight has a limited amount of power because that was the theme... pics1.png Press f4 to change between full screen and normal screen. I would recommend full screen because this accidentally became a horror game half way through and full screen would make it more spooky. Playing with the volume on is also recommended because without it the game would probably be really hard.

I'm not sure why I wrote this like I did but I feel bad about it so I'm sorry... Animation.gif Wow, this is the closest I have been to the deadline... pic3.png

i want to say good job, this is not the perfect game of course, but i like this game he's quite smooth, graphics are not super incredible but i like the black and white environment, the theme is respected, the sound is a bit repetitive but i think you did what you can and i respect that. nice game ;)

Great job as a whole!

My first thought was that the game felt really smooth which is nice. Really liked the idea and application to the theme. Good job mate.

Game is really cool, actually pretty spooky when you start being chased and the song changes, the art style really works well, congrats.

I really enjoyed the art style and how the music coordinates with it!! I think the camera control of the mouse could've been a touch better/easier to control, but other than that, I thought it was a neat little project :)

Damn, I was surprised each time thoses buggaboos start jumping at me ! It's a solid entry, no bugs (except the buggaboos eheh), no strange controls, even a title screen and a tutorial, and a concept that fit nice to the theme, with differents levels to exploit it a little bit. The piano music was good, yeah, not an incredible melody, but its fit with the game and it changes with the events, and that's a really a nice touch. Also bonus points for the character animation, even if him graphic his a stickman, there is a great effort to animate it ! Great job !

Nice job. The game is simple yet fun to play. There could be a lot of improvements in mechanics and level design but this is very nice for a 72 hour job!
The music was a little hard on the ears but very practical. It showed exactly the attention points of the game.
I loved the pen and paper style and I confess that the colorful ending was not as beautiful to me as the in-level design :)
Congratulations again!

The music is rather harsh when crawling away from the bugs for large amounts of seconds. besides that, the art is great, the controls are tight, and the mechanic was fun the whole way through!

I really like the gameplay, just the right difficulty. But the piano is kinda hard to listen to after a while, just the soundfont that it's using. I like how good the different songs transition so good.

Really great game. Love the line art and slight change as you are walking which seems to make the character more alive, if you will. Several games have used a black and white aesthetic, but the organic nature of yours put you at high marks for me. Piano did get aggravating after every death (and I died a lot). Still, I loved the musical clue that a spider was coming for you - made it so I was memorizing the steps and just moving blindly once I knew what to listen for :-D Great mood/atmosphere and top notch for the graphics fitting what I see as a specific feel you were going for!

Ha, I'm a fan of line art when it comes to jams and stuff, so special props for that. The gameplay felt real smooth and polished as well, and the audio was making the experience a lot more proper. I think the game is actually pretty finished as is, but it could be expanded into something longer and bigger should you decide to work on it some more. I'd play a bigger version, personally. :) Great job!

I really like how you us the piano to create the atmosphere and also give feedbacks to the player. The art style give also a unique touch to this game. Smart use of the torch, and the way to defeat the rat is clever. I have just had some difficulty to navigate in the narrow corridors while crouching.

Nice style! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYbvh0qo8Vs

This is a really nice game, congrats! I love the different music styles, and it definitely feels a little scary to be chased around! I found myself crouching all the time, so maybe the character should just have been smaller? Nice art style and light mechanics, I really enjoyed this!

I loved the art style and simple piano tunes! I thought the ending was kinda sad, for the character to die right after escaping rat hole city.

Good job for a ludum dare game ! It's obvious you haven't let it go even if you're not graphic designer and it works ! That do the trick so much i fell in love for the sympathy the game is inspiring me :)
And "Rat Hole City". Omagad that's my stuff so much :p
