Solid Chef by ObusWolf

[raw]
made by ObusWolf for LD 41 (JAM)

Chef has seen too much death, and will no longer use weapons against others. What shall he do when he needs to cook a meal and move to the next room? He'll sneak around the guards, get his ingredients, cook, and finish in time to save the day!

This is my first completed jam submission, and it has issues! I wasn't able to get any sound in, the tutorial is a single screen that can be accessed in game or at the main menu (if you're not sure what to do check it out by using ESC or P). So much art wasn't finalized, and a fully missing UI. Only one level in the game, the main character doesn't rotate, and very little testing as I drove this project like I stole it!

The themes I combined are: Stealth + Cooking.

I'd like to send a special thanks to: - GamesPlusJames, http://gamesplusjames.com/, for all his great tutorials AND the easy to use Unity menu plugin. - Kenny, https://kenney.nl/assets, for making so many awesome assets and allowing people to use them (I made the ingredients and pot sprites, that's why their quality is so low). - Aron Granberg, https://arongranberg.com/astar/front, thank you for the A* plug in and tutorials.

Pretty fun! I got a bit confused as to what I needed to do once I finished making the stew, but eventually I figured out the exit opened up.

You already mentioned some things like adding audio and stuff that will make the game better, but as a stealth cooking game, this direction is right on the money. It would be great to have some more feedback when you finish the level, tho - I has to esc back to the instructions to figure out that I was supposed to leave. Also, the escape route could be clearer. It's a really good start tho, nice work!

Interesting idea, but I found it a bit confusing. I didn't have any clue why the pot stopped, for example. A bit better feedback would help.

You've already noticed the most glaring weaknesses, but a stealth game doesn't feel stealthy without audio. In the future, prioritize the aspects that are most core to your game's experience. Good job on what you did do with the level design, even if it was just the one. Feedback as mentioned is crucial; bringing an unprepared food should have shown some sort of error and instead of a bar should have been three dots for the pot.

Best stealth cooking game I've ever played.

Fun idea! As others have mentioned, I think the main thing missing from the game is just giving more feedback to the player of what's going on. The implementation of the enemies felt pretty solid!

This was really fun! The mechanic of having to bring the different kinds of food to the chopping area and then cooking it was really a good one as it forced you to have to keep walking around the level and put yourself in danger with the enemies. I'd love to see what you would have done with a few more levels :) Great work on your first entry! :)
