The Junk's Games by Paulo Augusto

[raw]
made by Paulo Augusto for LD 42 (JAM)

This is The Junk's Games.

Prancheta 2.png

TJG was developed on Unreal Engine 4. How you can see, it was designed to be 3D, it is our first GameJam, so we were more comfortable working with something we already knew.

The game has a certain tone of trolling, so I hope you enjoy it.

The goal of the game is to reach the portal at the end of the map.

You can see here some pictures of the game.

Funny at first but really not much to the game. Performance drops severely after a few seconds.

I would have enjoyed the game a lot if you changed the main character of unity and used different buttons

Really hard performance and seems to be no way to get to the end. However, I had a good laugh so you got points :)

300mb for a jam game is a bit too much, and I ahd some problems to use the UI buttons. Still, congratulations for the first game jam entry! Hope to see you in more jams ^^

I wanna play your game, but I have only Linux Mint on my machine. Couldn't rate you. See our game (it's multi-platform written on LibGDX)

¡The graphics are really amazing! And you definitely did get on the spot with the theme of the Ludum Dare, but the gameplay turns really hard after the first second  I may be doing something wrong but looks like the game runs out of space too fast.

I like the idea, but I tried to get past the second ball emitter and couldn't do it. Also, my reset button and the menu button didn't seem to work all of the time.

I think if you had a little extra time it could have been a show stopper.

@darkguardsman @rilifon @iokin @danielbarca @george-lancaster thanks guys.
I will be providing a linux version. Thanks for the comments and criticisms, I will improve my game and post here again. I'll definitely be in the next jams.

I managed to get stuck in a spot without the help of the balls lol

Managed to play the game. There are some button collision problem: cant go back to menu from game, the collider for reset and pause button can only be clicked on the left hand side. There is a section by the end of level 1 that once I fall into, there is no way back - a success troll LOL. I experienced some performance issue as well, I think you went a little overboard with the game, especially my computer is really not liking the fire at level 3 haha. Then thats good to have performance options. Good work putting everything together!

Nice game. Feels like a proper troll video game. The kind you would trick your friends into playing at school. Me and my friends would play Spank the monkey. Basically a 2-3 second video game experience, just for the lols.

Nowadays with iphone casual games: they expect more of your time, but what you have here is nice. Great for a jam. Easy to download, easy to understand. Nice job.

@loadsofmana @nam-nguyen @huskitch @michael-feldman @swini @planetgames @lawnjovi thank you for playing and giving feedback from you. Yes, I have to pass the game, I tested before posting and some people also tested. Yesterday I had done the panel for adjusting graphics, I think it is already there is in the initial menu when it enters the game. It really got really heavy but I'll figure out ways to optimize it. I'll polish the game to make it better. And about the bugs on the buttons I will see them tomorrow to be correcting. Thank you for everyone's feedback.

The best thing you can do to make your game run smoother is to delete any/all of the default content that you're not using. I can tell you're using unreal, so when you package your game, everything comes with it. If you're super set on keeping the massive amount of physics objects, you can at least lock their x (or y) axis and spawn much less to fill up the space. Overall, I can see the idea you're going for and with enough effort, (and youtube tutorials) it might just work!

Nice game, but I feel like winning just requires getting lucky with how the balls hit you though. Is that right, or is there more skill to it than I realized?

I couldn't play your game because I got the error:
"Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running. Exiting..."
Might be my end, as I'm on my laptop but thought you should know in case other people have the same error.. I'll give it a go on my desktop when I'm back home in a couple days :)

@candlebird @teo-miklethun @william-kluegel @popdaddygames @darkmonkey-inc @awix @reax thanks for the comments, I will correct the errors and update here very soon. Many people have come and told me about the bugs of the buttons, I thought I had solved it but apparently it was not. I am writing down everything you comment on for me to improve this project and use it in the near future, are very important points that really deserve attention.

Good job! The art is pretty good, and the idea is nice. The buttons are almost unusable, working only occasionally. Plus, the game is DEFINITELY a troll. It's almost impossible. However, the mechanics do work for what it is, and the audio isn't half bad. Good job, and keep coding!

Cheers!

Great graphics, funny idea, but couldn't restart because the buttons don't work. Good try though, keep it up!

Ouch. Beat level 2, but man you might want to turn down the fountain of objects in the beginning. It feels like pure luck getting anywhere and afterwards it is really simple platforming.

The idea seems nice though. Maybe with some fine tuning you can get it to just the right level of trolling in the bgeining of the levels.

Good luck with continuing on this project. I hope you can turn it into something great.
