Storywise, it's a very simple game, but I found myself enjoying the characters the most. I enjoyed their aesthetic and the cute nods to humour. If there's one thing I had to nitpick, I guess I found that the plot didn't really make a whole lot of sense. The same day keeps repeating over and over, so how does the protagonist remember the safe code (which I had acquired in the night of that same day) before the day begins? Why does the protagonist end up losing the key when the day starts over? And the other animals seem to not have any recollection of the day repeating? I just found that part doesn't really make any sense. But perhaps I'm just thinking too hard about it all. :P Oh yeah, and how does a music box run out of power, anyway?
Aside from this, yeah, this was a nice sit with great visuals and audio to boot.
I loved the graphics and the audio. It fits veiry well! And you built an entirely story around the game!
Very good job!
Graphics and music really fit the story and the story really fits the theme.
I really liked figuring the steps I had to take to finish the game. There are some details that could be improved, but the overall quality of the game is really high.
I think the game is very polished, the art is beautiful, the whole look and feel too (chat bubbles, colors...).
I love the main character and I love he/she don't have arms, looks very interesting (like our Olympic Games pet in Barcelona, Petra 😉) and the walk animation is cool. Music is very nice too, you have many melodies and this is a lot of work for doing in a Jam. Well done!
I'm curious about the world creation process, is that a world you created for this game ad-hoc because I think is quite deep with a lot of characters. Anyway, is very cool!
I feel like it's kind of a missed oportunity to create an original universe; the characters are cool, but the world seems a bit bland compared to them. Anyways, you have a nice start there!
The only thing I will complain is the world map, it doesn't feel like is the same game. I believe you will polish it more in the post-jam, so is not a big deal.
Wonderful game guys.
1. The music box rewinding animation at the end of each day annoyed me a bit, since it's unskippable.
2. The giraffe looked angry, heh.
But otherwise, solid entry - graphics, mood and audio are on point! I have mixed feelings about the story - while I do like it, I have a nagging feeling that I missed out on something (like a point or a message). Or is it just about ending the loop and that's it?
I liked this quite a lot, the gameplay wasn't anything new but what's here is very well made. It's always 6:00 in the character's house though!
My only gripe was having to go back for the key, I missed it as I assumed I already had it as the code for the safe passed over from the day before (but I guess that isn't a physical item and it wouldn't be possible...) but that is more my stupid brain not realising I guess.
Great job :grinning:
Didn't even realize this was a DDRKirby release until I read the comments! It's good to see long-time people still participating in Ludum Dare, it encourages me to keep on joining these (especially after the last string of failures I had). Keep at it!
The gameplay was simple, yet it didn't felt boring. The world was interesting enough to keep you interested, and the "three phases" of the day added some nice depth to keep you exploring and finding new combinations. You begin your first day not knowing how anything works at all, but by the second time you wake up you've got your objective clear and can grasp how the game works.
My only complain, altough it isn't a big thing... i would have appreciated to know which objects i was carrying. The second time i woke up, i had no idea if i still had the key, so i wasted my morning going back to the school again and, therefore, the whole day, since i couldn't progress any further. It was made clear after that the inventory was lost, but it made the "figuring how the game works" twice as long, and it felt less like "ok, you've got the basics, go explore".
Overall, it is a really, really good game. Even if it can be short, you can spend quite a lot of time exploring if you wish in this charming world.
Charming. That's the word i was looking for. That how i would describe this game.
Good job!
But to the beginning I don't figured out who the antagonist is. At first I thought it has to be the crow because he wants to teach the students one day more and more and more ... xD
I enjoyed the the gameplay. Thanks guys. :)
Good job overall!
Overall this is a very polished entry. Great job!
The art style is unique, the sound effects and music are good and the idea is very original.
The duration is perfect for a compo/jam game, but I didn't see the theme in there (maybe when you fix the music box is when you loose power??), still a great game!
Good job!
One minor thing is that the map + bus graphics looked a bit rough and out of place compared to the rest of the game.
Wow, this is an impressive feat for 72 hours, you really created something unique here!
I love just everything about this game, the art style, that you have cute animals for protagonists, the music and how it changes depending on where you are, giving you a hint for example that the principal is evil. Also the transitions, especially the morning sun transition! This is a simple effect to program and yet it provides so much value, incredible!
I love how the story unfolds, I had to play through 10 or 15 times to finally make it. Cool idea that you cannot finish this play in the first go, because of the janitor only giving you the combination at that specific time, this let me know that my character, as I myself, can actually remember what happened in previous days and it is not just a restart of the game but that he is really stuck in a time loop.
The audio is fantastic, the background noise in the restaurant - man this makes it come to life, the voices make the place crowded even when there are really only two to four characters in it. Perfect choices for music and sound effects.
Overall this is just a perfect game, I am deeply impressed by what you managed to do in a 72 hour game jam!
PS: I just now read your description, so you fixed the 6:00 thing :-)
Ps no 2: The fact that I did not need to read your instructions is a huge plus as well, the game makes it clear what to do, self-explanatory and intuitive to control - great job!
The art and mood were great, the audio was ok.
The gameplay was a little boring though.. everything was kinda obvious and the plot/story itself wasn't really engaging or believable. For example the book was making stuff up (duh its a different world) but I wasn't immersed and it just sounded silly. Also the fact that the narration has no real explaination to it.. like what is the source of the music box? Who are our characters? They felt pretty generic (their graphics isn't their weak point though) and so on...
So I'd say it's quite user-friendly and cool but it can be improved; nonetheless for 72 hours - good job =)
Really liked the charming art and characters. The music was and sounds were fitting. It was fun to explore each area at different times of the day to figure out the right sequence :)
thanks for adventure genre
Really nice job there :)
Good luck with your latest release! It was a fun little adventure game to play. Just downright chill in the right ways to me.
