Ranger Danger by Ryan Wickman
Hello everyone!
The goal is to escape before the entire forest burns down, or your escape is blocked. It is a procedural generation game, so each time you play it's a different experience!
The Algorithms used: - Poisson-Disk Sampling to place the trees - Voronoi Diagram to create points and complex paths - Dijkstra Algorithm to find the shortest path from player to the goal, and dead end endpoints.
Team: - Ryan Wickman: Programming/Unity Developer - Austin Fisk: Art - Katie Robinson: Art - Derek Crowder: Sounds

I will say, this feels very luck-based — it felt like I was just in a random direction, hoping to find the exit before the puzzle became impossible.

The sound effects were a bit too much, but it made it funny. Overall simple but fun game.
PD: Not sure why did you use Dijkstra. What was the purpose of finding the shortest path?
I felt the stress of being about to burn, but I cracked myself when I saw the fart, wtf?? is that normal during a fire? I mean, it didn't happen to me playing Firewatch. (But firewatch wasn't that realistic anyway).
Now seriously, good job on the mood, and humor too!

I got a CornPop / Honey ball stuck on a tree in the last level but that's the only bug I had.

The graphics are simple but correct, I liked the cartoon style nice a uncommon choice. :) As for the audio part, I heard no music and "caught" two sounds which were correct.
The controls were also correct, didn't had any problem to move the green guy and no collision bug. Reducing a little bit the trees' colliders would help moving more smoothly around.
Don't know if it was intended but you can move faster diagonally.
Anyway, good job! :)
Just some quick, random thoughts:
- I'm not sure what the purpose of the coins are? If you decide to work on the game further it would be cool to use them for upgrading your ranger to give them more abilities.
- The coughing sfx seemed to just be random, it would have been useful to use it as a warning of when you are close to the fire.
- I got stuck in the trees a lot. Often I would move between two one way and then was unable to go back. So I think the collisions need some tweaking.
- Some ambient music or even fire sounds for the background would have really added to the mood. I don't know if you have tried out freesound.org , but they have a great library of free sfx and I would highly recommend you check it out for your next Jam!
- It is quite hard to see the "exit" gap in the trees and I didn't know that it was an exit until I randomly walked over it. Maybe increasing the size of the gap or adding some sort of sign would really help the player.
Anyway, congrats on getting a game submitted on time for the jam!
If you have some time, I would really appreciate feedback/thoughts for my game, Gut Reaction!
