Void Era by Timbelion

[raw]
made by Timbelion for LD 42 (JAM)

Hey guys,

this is one of my first game. Not bad, only 72 hours, but there is enough room to improve.

This is “Void Era”. It’s about a Space guardian that is trying to protect “Spectruum”, the heart of the universe, from the flying robots. If you destroy them the universe will grow, if they start attacking “Spectruum” the universe will shrink.

Game:

-animations

-achievements

-sounds

-it is getting more difficult

-WARNING: Mouse killer, finger killer

I'm not sure if builds for Mac and Linux works. Please let me know in the comments what you think. Does this idea have potential to be improved?

Thank you!

Very fun and actually addicting!!! The only thing is that my finger started hurting after some time of constantly clicking xD

Good idea, I liked the simple artstyle and the music. It would have been great to have different types of enemies. In my opinion, the universe shrinking isn't really a problem: the game didn't feel that challenging but rather hard on the fingers. The game could use some polish like explosions when killing an enemy and some screenshake for the feedback. Well done for one of your first game.

Thank you) It's really good idea to show how to play a game without extra button!

Great art. Too many enemies for me, it's hard haha

Yes. I clicked a lot. The art is nice and the mood is good, but the gameplay is too long and monotone for my tastes sorry ( I might have missed something as usual though so sorry in that case). I did like the overall feel of it though! A pretty game!

I agree... too monotone (and you probably missed something :) )
I had more ideas but I didn't have enough time.

Cool idea with a growing or shirnkink universe! Like the idea. The graphics looks cool too!

Fun clicker, and a cool take on the theme. Limiting the range of the gun/staff is a great idea, as it forces you to move around even without the ennemies shooting at the player. I only wish the game became harder faster, as I would make the start of the game a little more exciting.

The art, end especially the sound, were a great addition to the game. All in all, a solid entry ; good job !

Wonderful little project, very addicting! I had to stop at 20,000 because my hand cramped up from spamming click.....

Nice game art. Gameplay could've been a little versatile otherwise good job.

Great game! It was quite fun to play! If I may give some feedback:
- I'd put the player under more pressure. For instance, why can't I be damaged by the laser beams or enemies?
- I started to see a 2nd monster type, but this was very late in my playthrough. I'd ramp up the difficulty and variation of enemies a lot quicker.
- Although the shooting mechanic works fine, I miss a sense of 'agency'. I fly around hitting the enemies, but it would be great if I could be rewarded more during play. Maybe you can push the border away if you get a combo?
- The graphics are cute, but maybe the styles clash a bit. This criticism is a bit unfair, since this is a jam.

Please don't take the feedback personal, I think you did an amazing job! I'd love to see the game grow into something more :D! Keep it up!

I appreciate your feedback. I agree with you about variety of enemies and combos. I'd like to implement that ideas but i didn't have enough time. If I had at least one more day this game would look different

Good game, was fun here are some tips though

- Change the pointer to something big, and contrast to the background, so its easy noticed, many times I was just searching where my pointer was and I was confused why it wasn't shooting where I wanted it.
- Add some variation to sound effects, same pew pew pew sfx made the game a little stale, add like 3-4 different pew noises and play them at random when player shoots.
- Make it so that you hold the shoot button instead of clicking repeatedly, as there is no ammo system in the game there should be no reason to keep click to shoot system
- there was no reason to move around after the mid game; In the start I was roaming around shooting players but after that I was just sitting in the center and shooting the players, maybe add some pickup points or upgrades to make the player move from the base, or add enemies that want to kill the player

Good job on the Jam though!!!

Had a lot of fun playing this game. The graphics are very pleasing and the sound effects are just perfect.
What I would personally add would be a "hit" animation, to give the player additional visual feedback showing him/her that the enemy has been touched or not. The pointer would also benefit from an increase in size.
(I am not sure if I am the only one with this problem, but I can't seem to be able to move with WASD)
Great job !

Fun game! My Highscore is 62900.(or 629000, cant remember off the top of my head) It was fast paced and fun and fit the theme well! My arm did start to hurt after a while due to clicking, maybe make it so you can simply hold down to autofire, might make things easier. Also, after a while the big orange guys team up on you and surround you and it becomes almost impossible to survive. If you can look past those few flaws, you have a simple, fun, and well executed concept! Well done!

Really cool game! Art and visuals are wonderful! Particle effects greatly assisted in making the world feel more alive. Felt annoying to have to constantly click, would prefer if you could just hold down the fire button to shoot. UI looked great as well, but was confused as to what some symbols meant. Tower defence aspects were cool, encouraged me to prioritise which enemies I killed first. Good work!

Nice game, the gameplay could use some twists ( maybe some power ups to collect? ^^) but overall nice work !

Like the hand-drawn style of the characters, though doesn't fit too much with the space background. The finger killing is an issue and it would have been nice to see some other mechanic in there. Overall good job!

I liked the art style, but it was a little bit bad attack as a clicker feature, haha
But nice game after all!

This was kinda exhausting, but I got 17250! I like the idea of making bullets disappear after time. However, I think it would be a better choice to just give the player autofire (so I wouldn't have to mash my mouse button). I think some more weapon types would be apprecieated as well as new enemies and better graphics. But the game overall is really good and fun!

Ok my hand is hurt. If bullets are no spent you should make shooting automatic. Also it's kind repetitive, maybe you could add some kind of progression, like more kind of weapons or upgrades. Other than that good job finishing the jam.

Interesting game, but it feels unfinished. It's more of test to see how longer your finger can last, haha.
I thought there'd be more after the 200k score, but I discovered there wasn't any other stat boost and that the difficulty stopped ramping up. The artstyle is the highlight for me.

It's really an endurance game in that case, as my hand started hurting~ It makes me wish there was a slight autofire.

My haaaaand !

At first when I saw the warning and started playing I was like "Welp, this isn't hand breaking..." and THEN the big guys start appearing and I was like "WHAAAAAAT, there's too many of them !"

You should consider increasing the ennemies' damage, the health bar drops quite slowly imo.

Maybe add some powerup to actually reward the player for getting this far in the game.

But please... Allow constant shooting if I hold my LMB !

Anyway, nice little game overall, especially if it is one of your first game.

Keep it up !

Fun little game! I straight got into the 'I am a f'ing space wizard protecting this magical thingy'!
Base mechanics are solid, but would have loved some evolution / things to master, like:
- Holding mouse button makes bullets travel further (for long range shots)
- Other types of weapons (bombs, lasers, fireballs)
- Enemies with other behaviours
But a fun start anyhoo :)
