Guide your tree following the sunrays to keep growing!

How to play:

  • Control the tree with your mouse, at least one of your leaves has to be under the sun.
  • Using the LEFT mouse button you can grow faster spending some energy.
  • If you have your energy full you can enable super growth using your RIGHT mouse button.

Any questions you may have feel free to ask me on Twitter at @Quaternius

By the way, i haven't tested the Linux and MacOS builds as i don't have either of them.

I really liked the game. I love the clean, simple style. Also the music fit perfectly and that tree growing/"stretching" sound was cool. Good work!

Awesome work! The mechanic is simple but smart and you executed on it really well. Although my tree looked like it came out of the depths of hell lol.

Looks awesome! Very nice and coherent style. Maybe some signs of how the light is going to change would be nice but overall the gameplay is great

Fun game! The controls are simple, and the art is consistent and pleasant to look at. The tutorial was a little bit quick but I figured it out. If you turn side to side and use growth spurts you cannot lose. Using that strategy I got just over 1km with nearly full power before quitting: ![1km.png](///raw/eae/9/z/6d79.png) The music was well done, but the 'jungle' feel I got from it didn't quite fit with the artwork. Overall, it was fun and I think definitely worth expanding and experimenting with touchscreen devices.

Nice work! I love that the game shows the whole tree afterwards. Congrats for making this in time for the compo!

The music was so cheerful! maybe making the background blue instead of black would have fit more with the outdoorsy feel, but the growth mechanic was really fun.

A very interesting idea for a game! The audio is lovely and I personally think it complimented the graphics very well. The game was quite challenging and made it pretty fun to play. My only issue with the game would be the incorporation of the theme. When I was trying to distinguish how it related to the theme, every thought I had was quite vague. Overall though, it's a good game and I hope you do well in compo!

I had a feeling before I player this game that it was going to go on my "Best off Ludum Dare 39" folder. And it is! best game I played so far. graphics are amazing ... sound is amazing ...gameplay is amazing ... all other stuff amazing as well.

Great job!

Really cool game! The way the tree bends and grows new branches is very satisfying to watch. I did find it a little easy though (I got to 300m) and it took some effort for me to actually lose all my power and lose when I wanted to end it. I agree with @amastryukov above that I wasn't really getting a jungle vibe as the music suggested, but the tree sounds were on point.

This is a fun little game. It would be pretty cool to see a mobile port, as it would be really easy to pick up and start playing. The pan out at the game over screen was really satisfying as well.
Fantastic game!

That is a really impressive, beautiful and fun game to play. The music and the sound effects are perfectly appropriate. The design of the tree is perfect and the challenge is here. That is one of the strongest entry I have seen so far. Good job!

really fun, cool idea. I feel like the meter charges a bit too fast and the camera seems like it's not moving fast enough upwards. but great, especially for the time limit!

Really great game! I loved the art and the music, and just really enjoyed your use of the theme. I got my tree to 76 meters. It took me a while to realize that right clicking grew a bunch of new branches.

The game is visually appealing and fun to play. The mechanics were intuitive which made it easier to jump right into the fun. One of the more creative takes on the theme that I've seen. Great job on the game.

I like it! Simple, clever, pretty, good use of theme, what else is there to say? You know what you want to do and you do it! Nice little atmosphere to the experience as well. It could use more replayability though, there didn't seem to be much else to the basic mechanic after a few rounds. You might say there's "room to grow"!

Get it?

Because you're a tree, and you grow?

I'm sorry. I'll do better, I promise.

This game looks beautiful. I loved the vibrant colours and the minimalist but striking animation and design. The UI is simple, clean and very easy to understand. Your music was pleasant and cheerful - but the looping is not very smooth, there's a noticeable gap before the track starts again, which became a bit distracting as it was quite obvious. The stretching, twisting sounds of the growing tree are great - I especially like the "super growth" sound. Overall I really like the concept of the game and its a clever interpretation of the theme.

However, the single biggest problem with this game is that its very easy. I reached up to 900m on my first playthrough before I ended the game myself. I did not really feel an increase in difficulty the further that I progressed. The light rays move faster and become thinner as the tree grows higher, but i found that those elements didn't really make the game any harder. In fact, it actually seemed to be getting *easier* as the game went on. An increase in difficulty could be achieved by gradually introducing new obstacles and hazards to mix things up. While playing the game, I was thinking of some ideas of what these obstacles and hazards might be:

1) A moving object (maybe a dark cloud?) that blocks the rays of the sun as it passes over them.

2)"Dark" rays (acid rain?) that make your leaves wilt and fall off faster. This will force the player to not just wiggle the mouse willy-nilly all over the place, but to closely follow the light rays - or else they'll be punished.

I think some kind of added elements like these will help in creating a gradual increase in difficulty.

@mgpxl Thanks so much for the amazing critic, and yes, balance was a pretty big issue.
Those ideas are awesome! i'll probably use them when i fix and fully release the game! Thanks again.

Innovative, well balanced, fun! Graphics simple, but convey the idea perfectly; perhaps better than eye-candy heavy productions that would distract instead.
Very impressive!

### What I like:
- Great graphics
- Nice and clean UI
- Gameplay and controls are fun and easy to use
- Unique take on the theme

### What I think could be done better:
- The sunrays are rather rare, and sometimes there are none on the screen at all, causing you to lose almost immediately.

Holy moly, what a cool game!

I like the graphics and audio, but the gameplay is where it's at! It's such an innovative idea, I really like it. It's not flawless, the sunrays are rather random, and controlling the tree feels a bit weird, but it still feels very satisfying to play! Thanks for making it
