made by MZA for LD 41 (COMPO)

FrontLogo.png

A Match-3 Survival gamemade for LD #41.

You control platforms by clicking on them and try to match them up at the same time you have to fight for your life!

Every once in a while, there will be a blackout in the cave where mimics of you are being created. You earn points by destroying these copies with your ammunition and making as many match-3 matches as you can. Be careful, these mimcs copy your exact movements.

REMEMBER: The goal is to survive as long as you can!

I'll be posting regular updates about this game on my twitter: https://twitter.com/MZhaddul.

Updated post-jam available now!

Play, Rate and Enjoy!

Well done :) The tutorial was nice! The controls were a bit hard though. All in all a good entry! :D

The music is really enjoyable! Matching games aren't maybe my thing but I'm sure that someone who likes them more will definitely enjoy this aswell!

Thank you for the support!!

There were some minor bugs in the game which I fixed. So on my itch.io page there is my original compo game and an updated game. Its the same game but the updated one is less buggier.

@Ratstail91 Periodically in the game a blackout occurs. During the blackout there is a "small" chance of tiles being rearranged and enemies appearing. :D

ps - the platforms have a mind of their own and i purposefully kept it like that because of limited time

I couldn't figure out the blocks :( i wasn't really sure how to get them to move where i wanted to :( trying to match 3 but then some blocks just dissapeared into other colours and i wasn't sure why... maybe its just me :P lol liked the sound though, and the little jingle that kicks in when the cave blacks out is cool :)

@Brendan Toy thanks for thr feedback.

Its a bug that i purposefully left in the game :confounded: . From previous experiance, I didn't want to spend a lot of time fixing it. It helped me finish the game in a way.

Post-jam, i'll sort it out shoehow fingers-crossed.

@MZA I really liked the tutorial, but didn't understand the blackouts until you mentioned it in the comments! The presentation was nice and clean, but once I got going in the game, I found it hard to get feedback on what I was doing and if it was right. One time I encountered an enemy but had trouble getting ammunition. I did enjoy that you could 'boost' yourself by moving a platform above you randomly below you.

@baby-dino-herd : thanks for the feedback. The player feedback is a very valid point.
And something I plan to fix.

Hey, another match three entry, I made one too, but with another genre :-) I like your approach, it was quite fun to play. The tutorial was also well placed (and needed). Sometimes I had a bit trouble with the match three placement and did not know exactly why the tiles went away or dont, so maybe add a bit more feedback to the player here.

The controls are a bit to slippery to me (It takes a long time to stop moving). I would have liked more power over, where the match 3 goes. For example it always goes down if it can, otherwise you cant move it. Or I can pick a direction. Sometimes they didnt move anymore, but I didnt know why (which I admit is really hard to make the player understand) Apart from that I really liked what you did! Match 3 under pressure, because you need the amunition to protect yourself creates good moments! Well done :)

@BlueMirror @tomdeal Yes, when it comes to moving tiles, user feedback is very important. It isn't meant to be like this - (a bug) but I plan to fix it. Thanks for the valuable feedback and to everyone else.

Pretty interesting game! I have to admit, when the music suddenly switched so quickly, I kinda freaked out... :P

Hope to see you expand on the game, possibly with the bug, that makes it so you can't control where the tiles go, removed.

That's a very weird combinaison of genre for a game, I kinda love it, it make for a unique and interesting gameplay. Too bad it's a bit easy. I discovered a glitch that let you go through walls and ceilling, all the way to the top.
But I have to say I had fun playing your game, it's unique, weird and engaging. So, good job !

I liked the combined genres, but I wished I could move the blocks as I like, not randomly. The music was good and alright but could have been better. I liked this cute character. Was a little bit easy but for your first game jam it's so cool. My first game jam game was a lot worse than this cool game. Keep up you hopes!

Platformer where you can manipulate your environment is pretty interesting idea in itself, and i loved it. But i don't like that the blocks move randomly, so i can't do any strategic level morphing, and have to go, where RNG takes me to. Jump also feels too floaty for such small areas and corridors you have to navigate through. And for some reason sometimes lines of blocks without 3 matching colors disappear, when i click in the middle of them. I don't think that's an appropriate behaviour for a match-3 game.

cool, but wish I could control the block direction somehow, maybe with the IJKL keys?

28. Apr 2018 · 11:28 UTC
The bugs made it hard to enjoy but there is some potential here. I feel a better direction would have been to set up predetermined layouts as puzzles for the player to solve. Also, the audio could have been better. Good effort.

Played for a while.
I don't know if it was a bug or not, but it felt that sometimes blocks disappeared for no real reason, I mean, I would click on them when there was no match possible and they would just pop.
Also starting from the very bottom made it kind of hard to reach the top parts, starting somewhere in the middle I think it would make it much better :)

Cute game! I really appreciated the tutorial, but I did get a bit confused at how to move the blocks around empty space, or how to predict which direction they'd go. Occasionally a bug would pop up that removed all the blocks from the game. Overall, well done!

I liked the platformer / puzzle combination. I just wish I could have picked which way the blocks moved, instead of them moving in a random direction. I also couldn't figure out how to change weapons. It seemed like I was stuck with the default weapon, even if I picked up another one. I liked how the entire screen would just randomly go black for a little bit. The eye blinking on the characters was a nice touch.

It almost looks like that you had an idea for different Theme :) But this turned out very well. Very interesting mechanics, I would only add some more sounds as right know the music creates bit frustrating and scary mood (which is good on one hand, but on the other hand it feels bit like broken record, but if intended to express the mood, I am totally ok with that). Really cool Entry, would love to see some after-jam extended version :)

Weird combo! I did not see the mimics for a long time while I was working my way up, but when I went to the bottom, I did see them and died :P
The matching 3 felt a bit strange, sometimes the blocks would disappear when there wasn't a 3 match. And when I moved blocks that I was under, it had some strange effects.
Funky mood though!

Ideas for tweaks:
- Make a sound when you match3 + score pling
- Make the mimics a bit more relevant

Thank you @Jin9310. I do intend to work on the audio a bit more for future jams.
