Cute game! I love the pixel art of the astronaut.

One thing I wonder though, why are there 2 seperate healthbars? You got hearts in the top right and heads in bottom left.

Also minor nitpick: could the camera follow you a bit faster? I felt that most of the time my character was at the side of my screen.

Fun game overall, feels really nice!

Hey, I gave your v1.2.0. a couple of runs. Stand out for me was the music and atmosphere it created.

The tutorial is nicely written and presented. I also liked the pixelart for the tileset and character. However the art wasn't fitting well together all the time. Like with the anti-aliased stars in the background mixed with the pixelated planets.

Seeing how this game is a Jam-Game and you still have time, try to look into some better pacing of the early game, because the platforming starts fairly difficult and than gets easier. (Especially because the slimes dont kill you -> thank you for that!)

Great concept. Some of the art is better than other pieces i thought.
Some pretty brutal platforming. I liked the surprises :)

Great atmospherically game, the sound fits the game really well, one bug tough at lvl 2 when you fall down and it says "rip", you don't get reset back to the start position, so I would have to close the game and open it again! I liked the logs, and the space kats. I named my new home planet "Lazlo", it was to cool of a name not to pick it! The rotating blocks are a bit slippery so watch out

@winnie33 Thank you! The bar at the bottom is for number of lives remaining. The top bar is for number of hearts (which will kill you if you get to 0 by touching the slimes/flowers). :)

13. Aug 2018 · 08:37 UTC
Ah, that explains. I always fell in the void but managed to kill all the enemies and never got hit by one. But doing it like that is actually a good idea, since you don't need to worry about the slimes insta killing you :)

I love the art! it looks like you could eat it xD. The spaceship does look a bit out of place though. There's a bug in planet 2 where if you fall, you don't respawn. But the game is simple enough that most won't notice hehe. My only complaint is that it's a bit too short. But good job overall :)

Woah, that's a really well painted pixelart!
I enjoyed you game so much, the idea is pretty nice but not really theme fitting.

I managed to find a little bug. If you jump on a broken platform and it falls, if you don't move you will not die (probably because the player is still sitting in the platform, even at the bottom of the screen! Screenshot attached)

Thanks for your work!

@memel06 Thanks so much! We tried to fit the theme storywise rather than in the game mechanic itself. Thanks for the bug report as well, we've caught that and it's fixed in the newest version (uploading now).

Well the main thing that made it feel like it did was the fact that you have full in air control. i always halve my control in air. that way it feels less floaty. (even tho my game isint perfect on that part i do know that haha)

The art was really amazing! The audio was good, too.

I think the gameplay was quite fun, but could have used some improvements.

I understand the issue others have with the controls. You fall very quickly, plus there doesn't seem to be a jump grace period, or maybe only a very short one.

I also think failing is much too punishing; having to restart the whole game after just three times is really too much. You have to repeat a lot of easy stuff just to get back to the harder part. I would even say that checkpoints within the level would've been a good idea.

Overall, great game and there's even still time to improve the controls a bit in the jam, which I would really recommend.

@asleepforthree Let me mention that it was a great game! Probably one of the best jam games that I've played this ld. The gravity force was a little bit too strong for my taste, although floaty jumping is never good either. But a little bit weaker gravity would made this awesome game even better ;)

Nice aesthetic and the controls feel nice. Personally not a fan of the limited life system, it's the reason I only finished the first level (I really would've liked to have played a lot more). And at the end of the level when it analyzes the plants it feels like the game is bugged and in a loop. In fact I nearly quit and moved on to another game.

I like it! I was really frustrated by the first level, but I enjoyed the second and third levels. The pixel art was charming and once the gameplay felt a little easier I enjoyed the experience more.

The second level felt easier and it had more of a sense of exploration, and there were more mechanics. (Walljumps are cool!)

I was really amused by the space-cats being how you showed a planet was uninhabitable. I also liked that you can name the planet at the end!

PROS:
- Awesome background music.
- Pretty pixel art (except for the shuttle, sorry, it felt out of place).
- "Captain's log" is very cool.

CONS:
- Clunky movement when on moving platforms. Causes most deaths.

If you would have added checkpoints it wouldn't be as frustrating to die from the weird movement. I was able to glitch up walls, maybe a problem in your physics code. But Sound was really nice, good athmosphere.

I liked the idea of the game and the art. You did a good job. The audio was a little off for me. The music and the sound effects were too loud, it kind of spoiled the immersion of the game for me. I wanted the music to be a bit softer to match the art and gameplay.

Cute game! It's a shame that the character can move (which is much smoother with a joystick) and jump using a gamepad, but that he's unable to shoot since I assume the game only checks for the Keycode.Q where as the others check against GetAxis("horizontal") and GetButtonDown("Jump").

I'm so glad I decided to try out this game. Really cute - love the idea and the graphics. I'm not excellent at platformers so, despite my best efforts, I wasn't able to get very far. Despite that, it was still really fun to play and I had a good time. Excellent job!

The ambient sounds are really good! Love the transitions from levels as well, good effort on the world-building. My only frustration is with the character collision and physics, which feel janky, especially with moving platforms.

Wow, thank you all for the amazing comments, they are really useful!

I have personally been trying to heavily improve the physics during the last day but sadly there wasn't quite enough time to work out all the bugs from the new code.

Music and atmosphere stands out the most for me. Music suits the space theme of the game amazingly. Player movement was a little awkward for me especially how he keeps walking a bit after you stop moving. I get this is for realism but for a platformer it is kind of annoying. Also if you die far away from spawn, the camera takes a bit to return. I died a few times due to not being able to see my character during these times. Graphics are not the best, but they are alright. There is a good sense of purpose to why you are on these planets which is great. I don't see any connection to the theme in gameplay unfortunately. Solid entry nonetheless.

Game is great but movement felt unnatural. Its hard to get to the end. The fact that you have limited amount of respawns is really annoying. Good luck on the next LD!

Nice game! The game over is a bit harsh though, especially considering how easy it is to dye through bad physics.

14. Aug 2018 · 23:25 UTC
The problem that I had the most with was using the Q button for firing at enemies. using A and W to move was actually quite nice and SPACE bar for jumping feels ergonomically friendly. Music add a lot to the visuals and the graphics felt very thought out. Levels feels easy and you progress but the added complexity like spinning or moving platforms are well on its way. Overall I had a great experience and had fun!

15. Aug 2018 · 00:46 UTC
Cool approach to the theme, I loved it. The music is great, and the game is fun as well. Just a suggestion, I think it would be nice if the player could jump as if the gravity was low. Good entry.

15. Aug 2018 · 09:04 UTC
Lots of great feedback so far, it seems most of the things I wanted to mention got covered already. I'd just reiterate the importance of a jump tolerance (ability to jump even if I'm slightly off a platform) and checkpoints. The first time I died on the last platform before the end of a stage I about cried.

But you've got a really fun platformer here. I really liked the pixel art - except the space shuttle, *space shuttles do not work that way!* :P - and you have an excellent mix of obstacles and mechanics. More simply (and more importantly), it's fun!

Cute game with a successful delivered space mood! I found the platforming a bit frustrating... I think the controls could be improved a little (jump seems a bit too vertical), and the scroll window zipping back and forth if I turn around makes me kinda queasy when I am repositioning myself for a jump (should have some hysteresis). I never quite figured out why I needed to collect the plants... I got only 2/3 of them on the last level but I still won! Due to the natives I named my planet "Caturn" :)

I love what you're going for! At times the artstyles clash (especially the spaceship animation), and the controls are very slippery as many people have said, which kind of clashes with the relaxing mood everything else sets. The lack of checkpoints also made it a bit frustrating. It's a cool concept and fun game when it's not being frustrating though :P

nice game. The graphics are neat, your little astronaut is excellent, and you managed to create some very cool mood. Although it doesn't seem like you made the music (opted out) I'd like to congratulate on make good choice with it as it really adds greatly to the athmosphere.

On the negative side the controls seem to quirky for me, with too much inertia, the character keeps going left and right a long time after the arrow buttons have been depressed which makes it very difficult for precise landing.
