SolarPower by jesusnoseq

[raw]
made by jesusnoseq for LD 39 (COMPO)

You have to reach the earth without collide. Your power comes from stars so if you are in shadow you lose the control over the ship.

Have fun!

Edit:

Thank you all for your feedback and suggestions:D

I have been working on a post jam version ( https://jesusnoseq.itch.io/solarpower) with a few improvements and fixes.

These are the changes I have made: - Procedurally generated white noise - Star power range indicator - There was a little control issue, it's fixed :)

Really nice game, the mood is just epic. Lights in this game create very nice feeling. The mechanic is simple, but really fun. Good Job!

It may be just me, but I had a severe case of input lag, with controls sometimes taking 5 seconds to respond (it may just be my crappy pc), which severely limited the game play for me. Despite that the game seems quite nice and the stars are really well created. I'd suggest adding some kind of background audio to the game, cause it currently felt a bit empty.

Interesting idea, with really nice use of Unity's lighting and particle systems!

The silence is appropriate for a space based environment like this, but I think I hear some background noise, is that my imagination?

My only complaint is that sometimes it's too hard to judge if the ship will have energy or not based on the light, so I tend to overshoot

I like this game. It has interesting gravity mechanics. It is challenging but fun. I really like the lighting effects.

I think some audio would make this game better, even if it's some background ambient noise.

Well Done!

I really like the presentation, simple but good-looking. It being on a 2D plane but shown at an angle is a cool touch.
I never got very far but had some fun with it, well done!
A representation of how close to a star you have to be to get energy from it might be helpful.

I really like this game's visuals and general style, although I seem to have some problems with the controls. I understand the concept of space ships having a lot of momentum that is hard to tame but... the movement is just a little too unresponsive for my taste. It was a little frustrating not being able to correct even the smallest amount of motion, even after holding a button for 5 seconds. I failed to get past the first few stars, because I would always seem to drift out of bounds, regardless of how little force I applied to the ship in any direction.

I really enjoyed it! It just took me some time to understand why I cannot control the satellite between the stars. Then I saw it is solar powered and everything made sense :D

Nice little game. I like it. Simple mechanic but not so simple difficulty level. Maybe sounds and music would make the game even more interesting. Anyway, good job :satellite_orbital:

Like the look of the stars. Took a bit to get used to the controls (it sometimes feels like you have no control). Nice game! :)

Great, simple compo entry! Love the glowyness of everything, makes it feel star-like and spacey. I think the use of solar power as the theme was great. It was hard to get used to controlling the ship, but it was fun once I did. Good job :)

Simple, yet interesting. I think you did well at choosing a core mechanic that you could extend and add variety to within the timeframe of the compo.

I think it would be nice to have a little bit more feedback about where the energy limits are around a star. As @duskpn already mentioned, it's fairly easy to overshoot a star because it's difficult to determine where to aim.

But once you get used to it, it's fun to rocket between stars. I think I crashed more than I hurtled endlessly off into space. Also, pretty lights are always cool. Well done on this game.

The graphics were great. I loved the way the ship moved. Pretty difficult when you move to the blue stars. Great work in 24 hours!

Sweet concept, with great graphics and well-communicated mechanics. The controls are a little wonky, which produces a lot of frustrating difficulty. The outer star radius should probably be shown too, and the camera angle is questionable at best. However, it was a very fun experience and I love all the little touches that went into displaying game information like the solar panel colors and the backdrop showing the lighting. The code for calculating the shadows seems to be impervious. I wish I had the patience to beat it! I may come back later to try again. I definitely think you should pursue this concept further if you can.
