Space Turtle by Sebastian Lague

You are an ancient and majestic space turtle. Tethered to your shell is a small world, home to many strange and wondrous creatures. Hurtling towards you is a fearsome storm of space rocks, which you must navigate if this precious world is to survive. Godspeed, brave turtle!

Notes: * Removed line of code allowing score multiplier to be increased by pressing spacebar * I've also uploaded a post-compo build, with the addition of an "invert y axis" toggle in the options menu. * Someone has unfortunately wiped the leaderboards. The top score achieved before the wipe was ~1400, by "Solithian".

I opted out of an audio rating since I used jukedeck.com to generate the game's music.

Feel free to leave some feedback.
Oh and by the way, in my game (hunting frog) there actually is a way to control the jump distance (WS while in air) My fault tho to not include that in the description.
If you get the time check out mine -https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/island-attack
It would have been nice to be able to control the turtle with a mouse. Can't really find more complaints as this was a simple but pretty well executed game.
Also, it's nice to see that my distant relatives have some important work to do.
Great game!
PS. You should create modified version where you use planet as a weapon ]:->
I am really impressed with what you did in 48 hours, despite the hurdles!
I am the artist/animator on our team and I really love what you've done here. The turtle has a simple beauty and the animation works great on both him and the globe. I like how the multiplier tokens appear hazy in the distance and then sharpen up.
Gameplay wise I'm also impressed. The controls are very responsive yet don't feel too snappy for such a soothing/slightly eerie game. Depth perception was a slight problem, for the asteroids but mainly the multipliers, is was hard to tell where I was in relation to them. Maybe this could be remedied by giving the turtle and the multipliers a glow and having the boulders near o them be illuminated by it (just a point light really). It would also look quite pretty!
It also felt as if I was having to fly underneath the multipliers in order to catch them? I definitely ended up aiming to fly below them and that seemed to help my success rate.
When you move up and down the globe momentarily blocks your view. I guess some might say this adds an element of challenge because you're responsible for keeping your own camera clear, but I felt it messed with my sense of space too much to find it a fun challenge. Maybe make it transparent as it flies in front of your camera?
Music was very fitting, you were probably better off using the music generator by the looks of the feedback you've got!
Fantastic work! I'm inspired as a coding newbie to go and check out some of your other tutorials now!

Overall I really enjoyed it, and I would love to spend some more time with it if you manage to get the invert controls in a build. Also I think I am going to install this in all the computers in the lab where I teach, because my students really need to relax a little :P
BTW, thanks for quality content on youtube all these years :)
I felt that it was a little hard to see the oncoming rocks at times, but maybe because I played during daytime and the sun was brightening the room... playing in the dark is probably recommended.
Overall, it's an impressive 48 hour effort - the physics seemed to work flawlessly. Great work!
Also good job on getting good working menu in. Not many games I played managed to do that and it does add to the overall completeness of the game.
First of all thank you for taking the time and making the invert axis build.
Second, check out my Highscore (I will get better I promise)
Third, I saw that you couldn't play my game so I uploaded it on Newgrounds, take a look if you want.
and the smoothness of the world behind the turtle is nice as well.
But where are the two elephants? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I love the fantasy of guiding a world flying through space. The game play was very nice and simple.
I don't really like the game over sfx & visual though. The sfx doesn't quite sound like a world or something breaking, it feels kind of disappointing. The visual could be a bit slower maybe one frame freeze or something to signify collision, right now it left question in my mind whether I really collided or not (because I'm looking at a 3D world through 2D monitor).
I would also love to be prompted to enter my username once when I start the game, so I don't end up submitting "anonymous" high score.
Overall quite a nice game with great mood, and the opening sequence was awesome, I loved it.
I played this on stream at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/141703264 - time 0:50:35
Cool graphics, hilarious concept, pretty weird controls (I don't know, it was hard to get used to that turtle's movement).
