Atomic Lifetime by Kaish

[raw]
made by Kaish for LD 43 (COMPO)

The Concept

The game is about an atom that must sacrifice its life time to get to its partner.

He must travel through the subatomic world taking care not to collide with other atoms along the way.

It can sacrifice its own life time to open atomic boxes or activate buttons.

These items can either confer advantages or simply make them lose their life time.

But maybe he should make that sacrifice to get there in time. You decide.

The Development

This was my first participation in the Ludum Dare. It was a fun and challenging experience.

All elements of the game were created at 48Hrs.

I think I spent too much time creating mechanics and I ended up running out of time to balance and create more levels.

I have received several excellent feedbacks. I will make a new version with more levels and more balanced.

Cool game! I really struggled with the "C" level compared to the rest, had a hard time hitting the atom with the shot.

Fun! Cute graphics and nice music made this a joy to play through. The only thing I can really say is that I wish there were more levels (obviously) and that the controls are a little awkward at first (but I got used to them). Also, I agree that lining up the shot was kind of hard to do for some reason. Well Done!

@callavicka thanks for feedback. I spent a lot of time doing the mechanics and I did not have time to do more levels, lol. =]

Cute game
Maybe a bit too easy on the level side, since most of them can be cleared just by right-clicking the partner atom.

Cute game. I had a hard time with the shooting at first, until I realized the other atoms don't die. Fun concept, cool graphics, good music. I enjoyed it.

I liked the cute gameplay - a fun little clicker. But I too found it too easy as the pathfinding would complete almost all the levels for you with a single click on the partner.

@zanagi, @dob, @rsim - Thanks for the feedback =]
I planned to do more stages increasing the difficulty progressively but did not have time.

Interesting concept, executed pretty well.
Given the major input for the game is mouse driven, it might have been nice to have dash as middle mouse button (most mice have those nowadays, even on macs, right...?) and the restart / menu icons as buttons.
Would have been nice to have completed levels have some kind of icon or colour change showing they'd been completed on the level select screen too, but these are mostly nit-picky points of feedback.

@mrnyarlathotep - Great idea about the mouse, I'll implement. Thank you very much

Good game overall! :)
I really enjoyed the concept and how you implemented the theme into your game! With more time and polish, i think you could turn it into a great game! Keep it up!

This game would have been fantastic in the Jam. It's nuts for the compo, way to go! Great look, nice design elements. Top notch.

Impressive effort, good music, interesting idea although I didn't like the delay between moves... I'd rather you just gave me less time to complete the level and let me move when I want.

Awesome concept for a game, I really enjoyed playing through it

Interesting! At first I was afraid that the game would require very specific timing, but in the end it turned out to be a pretty relaxed experience. I wish the game would have told me more clearly when I could move again - as far as I could see the only indicator was the movement X, and that was mostly under the player character. I liked the puzzle elements; perhaps this could work as a turn-based optimization game? Nice work!

I liked it, and I liked the atomic theme. I would have liked to see a little bit of chemistry theme to the powerups as well. The puzzle aspect was good. It did take a few minutes for me to get used to the delay on click to move. Nice job!

Great game! I like the chemistry themed levels (If only there was time to model the different atoms for each level). I think the game would've been better without the pathfinding in the first place, since it'll make the movement a bit more challenging and save you some time as well.

The level is a little bit too easy, but still funny anyway.

Great job!

Very cute game. I like the atomic theme and how everything was well incorporated into it. I also appreciate the variety of powerups you were able to add. Very cool :)

I really like the the concept of being able to move to a position, then having a cooldown before you can change course, it really made you think about what you are doing and plan your movements. I would have liked to see some relationship between the elements and the levels they represented.

The concept has been chosen wisely, the game feels smooth and is easy to understand. Great work!

Very Nice. The three second delay is a little quirky and messes with pacing but overall an interesting mechanic and quite polished.. Although not many levels they are an excellent starting point and did a good job of "teaching" me how to play. Cool looking hero too,

Thegraphics are simple and pretty cute ^^
And the Gamle design is well made with a difficulty increasing and new gameplay features in all new levels.

So the game is well designed and well thougth, great job ! ;)

Not bad for the first game :D
Took me a bit to figure out you could also move diagonal using the implemented pathfinding. Some added features, like the random box at the end only make the puzzle harder, since you got plenty of time to finish the puzzle without it. The hardest puzzles were probably the ones with radiation areas.
