Alone, armed with naught but a gun bound to your soul, you must fight your way through countless enemies in a final stand against their threat to civilization. Shooting your only weapon will eventually be your downfall, yet staying put and playing defense will get you nowhere. Death will not fall upon your enemies unless you command it, yet your command is limited. The only way forward is through in this lighting fast bullet hell shooter.

"Sacrifices Must Be Made"

The ammunition in your gun is your life, a concept which makes for some interesting game play decisions. My first idea for the game after the theme was announced was to have this be the only sacrifice you make in a play of the game, but while I was brainstorming and planning my schedule, I came up with several other ideas. None of them really would've stood on their own, but it seemed awfully ambitious to try and put them all neatly into one game in under 48 hours.

Nonetheless, that's what I did. The game linked on this page is a boss rush shooter game with all the following concepts put - Not too shabbily, either, I'd say - in it:

-The ammo in your gun is your health.

-You can't kill all your enemies, you have to choose wisely which ones you do.

-One benefit can be traded for another. In this case, one opportunity to kill a boss (referred to as "Fatalities"), can be traded for two extra clips in you HP gun, and vice versa.

-Every boss you don't use a Fatality on will be put in a cage, where you can't fight it and it can't fight you. After every fifth round, all the caged enemies will be released and their HP restored. Now defeating them will kill them, no matter your number of remaining fatalities.

Having your life as ammunition is a pretty great take on the theme! nice game.

I dig the 1 bit aesthetic.

Looks like it's possible to lock yourself out of the enemy spawner if you "cage" some enemies next to it.

@lontrus I noticed the issue with the spawner, and made it remove all collision tiles around it. However it is still a problem, as there is no visual accompaniment to tell the player they can go there.

Really great game overall! I really liked the mechanics although i think they could be a lot more polished and balanced :) i really had fun playing it, also, some enemies were super hard to dodge lol, aside from that the game was really awesome!
