Blowup by Gildar76

[raw]
made by Gildar76 for LD 42 (JAM)

This was intended for the compo, but since I forgot it started/ended 3 hours early, I'll submit it to the jam.

It's basically a breakout style game with a little twist for the theme. Each time you hit a brick, more bricks will spawn depending on what brick you hit. TO get rid of some bricks, try hitting the bombs that spawns quite frequently

A nice game idea, the music is really relaxing.

Good twist on a break out game, I think it could've used better art on the bricks.

digitaldude555 I agree. They didn't come out as I intended lol. Didn't have time to come up with something new.

Nice game , loved the style maybe would have liked if we had to throw bombs from the paddle to clear a path or something similar ? you know just to involve the player more, spent some time just watching the ball jump around without me doing much. loved the sound as well :D

You got a 5 on audio because this is one of the few entries I've seen that actually has a volume control so I didn't go deaf while playing it :)

This was a pretty fun idea. Wish that I had thought of it, haha! Only thing, is that after a while, the game kinda just plays itself, despite the explosives that spawn. Overall, a pretty cool game

A very nice entry with a clever twist on a classic game. Liked the fact that it had music, although I think the art could've fitted together better (e.g. faster music, as it's got a lot of movement in it).

Not a bad concept, although after awhile it feels a bit like watching a simulator than playing a game, since there's nothing the player can do while the ball is bouncing around within a screen full of blocks. Perhaps adding one more gameplay element that would allow the player to do something during this time may be helpful in the future. Cool soundtrack. Overall nice work!

@jordantanner I agree. Noticed that a bit late. I tried to correct it by messing around a blt with the phisics, but didn't do enough. Adding another gameplay mechanic would have been nice.

Nice idea! But it needs more.... something. I also felt like I was watching it more than playing it at times. Music was pretty nice, block and bomb art needs a little extra oomph.

One critical note: your game is larger than my full-screened browser window... so initially, I didn't see my paddle or know what was going on. Finally noticed the browser scrollbars, reduced the game size and it was fine.

I'd love to see this idea expanded, but with more interaction as well. Hope you've had a great LD!

@alexfalkenberg Thanks for the review. I thought I made sure it should work in most common resolutions, but guess not.

As mentioned, I agree on the lack of interaction.

@gildar76 I think it's a Unity thing; yours is not the first Unity game I've had that happen with. And only with Unity titles, so.... beats me. Maybe I just need new monitors. ;)

No worries re: interactions. I get that it's a tight deadline. I think you could add other elements that improve the interactivity. My own game is lacking in this way as well. Just the nature of a game jam, really. :)

Take care!

Cool idea! The appearing blocks made it more unpredictable which got tricky. Good job!

The graphics look simple and neat. The audio is also good. I like the camera shake effect you made as well as the blinking and shinning effects you put on the bricks and ball, which look very cool. However the game viewport didn't fit my browser window size and I have to use sliders to see every corner of the game view. I don't know if this problem is due to your canvas settings in Unity or the website that hosts your game. Moreover sometimes the ball can bypass some bricks without eliminating them, and I don't know if it's part of the gameplay or just a bug.

Overall it's a well-made game considering you initially wanted to take a compo and made all the game assets by yourself in only a few days. Well done!

Game play was very smooth. I'm not sure there was a way I could win though, the ball just eventually bounced on it's own, hitting walls, explosions, but always spawning too many blocks. Either way, it was a fun, quick game. Great work!

Nice entry! The only problem I think is the fact that the platforms wayyy too slow to be able to get the ball if it's travelling to the other side. But maybe that's a design choice! Good work, enjoyed the audio most
