Funkotron 5k by Jannes Nagel
A rythm dance game made in 72 hours (Except for the houses)
Feedback very welcome <3

Become the Funkotron 5000 and defend the city from an evil presence with the power of Funk!
Dance away a giant Monster while "accidentally" destroying big parts of the city around you.
Tuorial Image (Better look at it):
Press the dance key when the beat indicators pop up!
Level up your Funklevel to be more intimidating!
Features:
Groove & Funk (Handmade)
Completely procedural Animation (Because we are stupid)
Procedural city (Pregenerated - so it will not change every playthrough...)
We locked ourselves out of the apartment at 1am... Had to get a lockssmith... (Because we are stupid)
Tips:
The bars on the side beat with your current dance beat. Try to match your button presses with the bars.
If you get too close to the Monster you will loose a lot of your funkalicious power and the beast will freak out!

Controls:
WASD: Walk
Mouse: Lookaround
Space/Click: Dance
Or just use an XBox controller!

EDIT: Fixed links - more description - fixed a game breaking bug.
EDIT2: Added Linux & WebGL support
EDIT3: Fixed a bug in the camera and made the intro skippable
EDIT4: Added 2 more difficulties by popular request, this required me to add 2 entries to an array and buttons at the beginning. Hope that is fine.
EDIT5: Put the tutorial image into the game so people get less confused.

Love the intro scene and the humor and the graphics are overall very good. Love the animation on the funkotron and the game itself is very easy to pick and play but still fun. Was a little confused first over the beat bars because I did not realise that the black bars on the side was the actual beat. Thought they were just a camera effect. It would also be nice if the intro scene could be skippable because I replayed it a few times and it became a bit boring waiting through it each time. The movement was also a bit awkard because it seemed that you always got stuck in everything.
Other than that though it was extremely fun to play! Awesome work!
@avon We tried to make the game a bit easier - because usually we make them way too hard
@jtn191 Will try to fix the terrain glitch bug. You are not the first one :( Coding the animation system was a lot of work so we had to make a lot of cuts in the gameplay. We even have another move system we had to ditch.
@antiwrapper I can make the intro scene skippable.
@dirkinz I might adjust the volume levels a bit.
:)
Nevertheless Great Job!
Overall a very fun, and original game, but the only flaw in my opinion is that the controls could use some work.
@jtn191 @antiwrapper @dirkinz Fixed the issues you had.
@reggnos I just fixed the collision -it would be super special awesome if you could download the latest build and tell me if its better!
@OursBleu Sorry to hear you find it repetitive! Did you make it through?
@antaresvaldemar Glad to hear you like it!
@rezmo the funk actually decreases when you miss - but it does not downgrade your level
@mr-elektro You have to be kinda patient with the Funkotron since its animations are procedural
@vovin Really happy you liked it!
@michaelgrand Thank you!
@pixelformedstudios *blush*

Congrats!
Good stuff:
- Funny idea
- Looks great, procedural animation is good and funny
- Sounds good
Suggestions:
- Not very clear what you're supposed to do, what you're doing right or wrong, etc. I was just clicking a constant 4/4 beat while pressing different directions the whole time, and it seemed to get me all the way to Level 13, at which point it started saying Finish Him but I had no idea what to do :/ I assume there's more to the game than i understood but I wasn't seeing any feedback on what I was missing, unfortunately.
Good effort overall though :)
That was quite funny, but the controls weren't very responsive, at least for the moves. I think it's a downside of procedural animation.
[Danae streams Ludum Dare 39: Day 1, part 2: Funkotron 5k](https://youtu.be/AXdZR4HVHxc?t=49m42s)
This was super cheesy, but still fun. The procedural animation was very fun to watch :) The movement didn't feel very responsive though, probably because I was walking into large buildings too often. Might have been interesting / more entertaining to make the large buildings topple over, then the Funkotron would walk over them. Also, when I watched the stream again, I did see the bars were indeed beating very different rhythms every "funk level". When streaming, I didn't actually notice this, so I just kept clicking with the same monotonic rhythm as the very first one. It would indeed be much more challenging / fun to actually have to follow the rhythm. Maybe also indicate the rhythm with a DDR-like / Guitar-hero-like UI (where beats are coming from the top of the screen towards a spot at the bottom, which is when they need to be hit)? Anyway, a fun experience. Good job! :)
Unfortunately, the rhythm mechanic was a little confusing to follow, sometimes I was doing pretty good without really knowing why.
Only issue I have with the game is it pretty much has nothing to do with running out of power.
The only thing I could say is that the visual indicators for the beat can't help the player to anticipate the beat, I had to listen while losing points to gain them after, which in a certain way, correspond to the situation on a dancefloor, so it's not that bad.
Also it's kinda hard to move in the city and until the end you just walk around. Maybe smoother controls to move faster and more challenge from the Monster could make it more intense, because it made me feel like I was the only one dancing and nobody wanted to do a battle.
This is a great game overall, and I'd definitely replay it if you make something bigger and funkier! Good job!
Hard is really hard as hell. (for me - medium too) :D
Very original take on the theme. Congratulations, you all did an awesome game!
Audio was cool :D.
Cons: need another level, it's hard to "throw away" enemy - maybe use other mechanism for that?
But for me - wow!

Only two qualms. One was that it just closed when it ended. A dance party room or something just to end it with would havbe been awesome but hey it's the Ludum Dare, no worries. Two was just that the rhythms didnt' really feel like they got harder, just faster. In fact to me the first one was possibly the hardest, haha.
I would pay money for a polished, fully fleshed out version of this.
