An Adventure within a Deep Forest by BoltKey
Help Bob the Adventurer solve the mystery of the dark forest! Chop up bushes, jump over obstacles, swim through water and push boxes to collect all the glowing orbs in each level, but watch out! Getting each orb makes you sacrifice one of your abilities! Think carefully about when to pick which orbs, and make sure you will not need the ability for the rest of the level!

Comment how far you got! The level number is at the beginning of the message on the scroll
Update 2018-12-06: So apparently not many people comment the level number, so I am anonymously logging all the levels completed, so try to get far in order to have bragging rights once I release the stats

Inspired by the Sokoban genre, and Smart Games series by Raf Peeters, who manages to hide intricate puzzles in grids as small as 4x4, I tried to make such puzzle game myself.
Also, I worked a bit more than usual on the graphics. I found pixel art very fun to do, and very satisfying too. I am quite proud of the result.
Controls
- Arrow keys: Move around
- R: Restart level
- P: Change perspective / rotate the level
- Left shift: Hide blocking items
- M: Mute
The game autosaves after each completed level. I hope it is not a huge issue that there is no autosave wipe feature. If you really need to, you can go to browser console (f12 or ctrl+shift+i on most browsers), input localStorage.setItem("aidf-level", 0) and refresh the page.
Rules clarifications
Jumping
Jump destination cannot be rock, hole, crate, bush or (if you already picked up the blue orb) water.
Jump origin cannot be water.
You perform a jump whenever you make a movement which you cannot perform, you are not standing in water and there is possible jump destination behind it.
Pushing crates
Crates cannot be pushed onto orbs. When you can either jump over the crate or push it, you always push it. This is not a bug.

anyways great game
good luck
@atium-addict Thanks. The overal game structure simply invited me to make a tutorial like that.
@baknik Yeah, that "feature" was left there when I adjusted the moving. I could fix it easily, but I think I will leave it in the compo version. It is definitely not a game breaking bug.
Anyway, guys, how far you got and how difficult did you find it? I literally have no idea about difficulty of the levels as it is nearly impossible to test the levels myself when I know the solution upfront.
bug: holding P causes the game to spaz out.
@numeralien About the perspective. It should have been done differently, the "camera" should have been higher. But since I had most of the images and core game done already when I realized that, and I really didn't want to remake all of the assets and also adjust pretty much all of the rendering, I just the added support features of reducing opacity of objects and change of perspective to help with that. Also, you are unable to jump when you are under water, and that's a feature, if you mean that.
@twopm Thanks!
@sky-coding Did you finish it eventually? That's a known bug, but since it is far from game breaking, I am keeping it there.
@khaotom Good luck with solving that!
@benbusby You are right. I didn't have much time left for audio, and I just suck at chiptune sound design. I like to record and edit proper sound effects, but it would not fit a pixel art game.
The perspective sometimes got a little awkward and the audio could've been improved but they weren't big issues.
Something that I did not understood was that if you lose your ability to swim you can still jump over water that is 1 block wide. This took a while for me to figure out.
I wasn't able to complete all levels, very difficult game. However, it was enjoyable. I'm not sure which level I got to, would be nice to be able to see that somewhere.
Great job, it was fun to follow your development updates.
Excited to see more levels if they get made. Great game.
@erendelous Thanks! It was a lot of fun writing the narrative!
@linus You can jump over obstacles, and water becomes an obstacle when you cannot swim.
@zemmi I selected red for sword, because sword associates power, and so does red. I chose green for jumping because for some reason it associates agility for me.
Nice little game!
I had a little problem with perspective. I constantly pushed [r] as [r]otate perspective instead of [p] as change [p]erspective
The idea with 4 different elements and different uses is really cool.
I really like the skewed isometric view but somehow it really makes the game a bit harder to guess which squares are empty.
Also, the orbs are a bit hard to guess what they do. I looked at the images inside the orb and I still had to guess. I'd suggest really large sharp icons inside the orbs to let me decide what it meant. For example, that green orb with a very small green + inside was hard to guess, while the blue orb was very clear what it did.
With a bit more levels the game would be great.
Still, I've played many of your LD games now, and it's still well worth playing!
I hope (once I get better at designing levels for this) to usually make it impossible to clear all the bushes without picking an orb.

Good luck on your ratings, see you next LD! :D
