Llama's World by fancy89

[raw]
made by fancy89 for LD 38 (JAM)

Is there anything better than a small world?? YES! Half of it! And it's inhabited just by a lonely, sweet llama.

LLAMAS WORLD TITOLO.jpg

Will you help him reaching the glorious apple?

Use your mouse to slide the tiles on the grid and move him across the land to his precious, tasty, lustful meal.

Beautiful, funny, hard-enough to feel joy after every victory but easy enough to get through it without morning coffee.
One of my favorite games this LD for sure.

Also, music is very nicely fitting.

Really cool game.

Graphics are beautiful I like the design.
Puzzles are awesome too, no too hard but not too easy.

The music you chose is just perfect :)

I'm impressed! First because my game Spermicorn is about llamas too :D,
second because I had no idea llamas civilization was that developed!!
Great graphics, (love the waterfalls), you can play it easily while the game stays challenging.
The llama sound is a definite plus! Awesome game!

Thanks Tommy! :D
So glad you can better understand the Llama universe after playing our game! :rainbow:

This game is awesome all around.

One little thing that was a bit annoying is the arrows. I think they aim in the wrong direction, got me killed a few too many times because I thought it would shift in the other direction.

I'm very impressed by the high quality here. I especially like how there was always more than one solution. Just as a super nit-pick, I would have liked it if the levels were unlocked as you progress with some kind of "Congratulations" when you beat the last level. Nice job, overall!

Beside of the UI (which felt like it needed some animation here to fit the game) this game is really polished! The difficulty scaling has a good pace and the sliding mechanic is very intuitive. That first laser got me tho ;) Totally overlooked that.

Really great job with the levels. I like the pan from beneath the planetoid to the play view at the start of the game.

@dennyrocketdev Thanks for the comment! We had a long discussion about this topic during the LD. We tought this was the best way to show how the tiles would be moved.

Great game! Mechanics work nice and smooth. Game is challenging enough.
At first it felt like the arrows to slide were pointing to wrong way. More than once I clicked one, thinking it would go the opposite way. Maybe that's me, maybe the arrows should point the direction in which the whole board is going to slide. But once you get the hang of it, it's no problem.

Graphics look good, UI/menu could have used some more love, it didn't feel quite up to par with the rest of the game.
Bonus points for using a llama.

@doc-ill Thanks for the comment! Yeah, unfortunately the time was against us, we had to sacrify it in order to finish the basic mechanics of the games ;)

Really nice work! Good puzzles, great music (sfx are the best) and good-looking graphics. As some others have said the only problem is the arrows: it's not crystal clear in which direction it will swap when clicking.

Nice game ! Graphics are cool (i like the voxel style art), and gameplay is simple but works great.

In my opinion, there is one thing that must be changed : the direction the tiles are moved. It does not match to the arrow. Either rotate the arrow 180°, or change the direction the tiles translates ;)

Love it! I have to ask, was the llama braying one of your team members? Because if it was, hats off to them! I eventually got used to the controls so I didn't find a lot of issues with it. I also liked the voxel graphics a lot! :)

Very well put together game. And some of the level designs really got me. Like the first time i accentally lasered myself i was like [mind-blown gesture]

Only thing i would say it needs is maybe a retry from last move rather than restart a level. And maybe better indication of what way the tiles are about to be moved because intuitively i assumed the row/column would shift in the arrows direction but it actually does the opposite.

Other than that, theres nothing else i could complain about. Its a really nice game and i had fun playing it :)

Cool interpretation of the theme, I really like the gameplay! :D

The colour palette is nice, and the voxel art style is great, like everything fit nicely all together.
Nice point to have all this little animations too, the world feels alive, and also when the camera moves along with your cursor.

As some others already pointed it out, I think the direction in which the tiles move should be in the other direction (at the moment it feels contrary to nature), like the arrows stay as they are, and just moving the tiles the other way. Because for example the arrow at the bottom points to the up, and once you click, the tiles are moving down when you expected them to move up.

And I guess as well the bias should be adjust on the light to avoid the holes in the shadow of the apple ^^

Otherwise, really great concept, nice execution, I enjoyed playing it! :D

overall, really good game. you could've add the difficulty more gradually, but that's the only thing i have about this game.

oh and one other thing... I HATE LLAMAS 0/10 IGN (joking of course)

Great game overall. Love the visual style of the game. The jump from the first level to the second is quite big, could maybe have a few beginner levels then move onto ones with lazers.

Very well done game! Nice grpahics and music. The mechanics are innovative and hard, I like it!
I loved the rainbow behind the Llama. I don't know what you could add/change.

As Requested: I played this on Livestream Today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr-ZBj_dJa4

I really enjoyed this, I wasn't able to play more than a couple levels but they were challenging and well thought out. No real criticisms other than the arrows being a little confusing to my brain.

Really well made puzzle game. I really like the voxel graphics! Only thing I found a bit confusing were the arrows to move the tiles around, I would find it more logical if they would point in the opposite direction. Apart from that I really enjoyed the game :) Congrats to all of you!

I must say I like everything except one thing.

When I die, the "retry" takes too long (camera should hone in on the llama more quickly).
Other than that, I have no words.

I especially found interesting the duality of the movement - llama moving around on its own and tile movement that felt like playing those sliding puzzles as a kid.

Very well done!

Love the humour here - the art style and the audio is great! This is a great puzzler - if I had to criticise (and I do) then my one complaint is that the arrows that move the tiles seem to be the opposite of what I expected! I felt like the arrow should show the direction the row would move not the tile at the end...but that might just be me!
Great entry!

I do love a puzzler, and this one was fantastic! Cute art, great presentation and challenging levels. I managed to complete all 8 and actually had the most trouble with number 4.

I'd be tempted if I were making this into a full product to put in an "undo" button to go back a turn if you die, though I guess part of the challenge is remembering how you got to a point if you do press the wrong direction arrow as you're two moves away from winning ;)

Great entry!

For some reason, it took me awhile (2-3 levels) to figure out that the arrows on the ends signified up and over, and to remember- "wait, what- which way does it go again?" (<in my head, sometimes out loud.) Even after I was blasted into submission by about three lasers, I still pulled a few "end arrow." I don't know what to tell you- Maybe it was the music? This phenomena added a level of difficulty that I wonder only now; planned? ;D Anyway- loved the game. Great puzzles. Amazing graphics! Horribly fun and surprising deaths due to llama brain! @winamp for the win!

Cool concept. The puzzles are tricky, though not too hard.

The arrows at the edges of the board point in the opposite direction of how the lama actually move. It is logical, but I still had problems getting my head around it.
