Game Jam the Game by Jacksendary

[raw]
made by Jacksendary for LD 41 (JAM)

It is game jam time, and you're going to spit out as many weird unconventional games you can by matching 2 genres together which would normally not go well together!

I only had about 24 hours (with sleep) to develop this game, I've made everything myself, but I did plan on making a dating sim + Card Trading Game originally but gave up due things not working out both with unity and people I were originally working with, and made this instead which I am pretty proud of since one entire day were wasted.

This game is inspired by game dev tycoon and other game dev games!

HOWTO:

To develop a game simply click the Chair/PC and get going, you win by scoring a user review of 11 (Which even I haven't been able to do my self yet, but can be proven by math is possible) - Enjoy and let me know what game you won with in the description :D

If you wanna cheat, there is a table over all values of combinations: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qz31aoLaG1a7GVwsE4q_KaB6QgWJ2B2ra6GU7AVLxLQ/edit?usp=sharing

Planned features I didn't get around to:

I wanted you to be able to look at all your old games (all games created) by clicking the the shelves but kept adding other content instead. I wanted to do more art maybe add a person to the chair but sadly I'm not good with art (Programmer here). I wanted to add random events or research but I decided this would only be implemented if I had time (which I didn't).

I like the concept! It's kind of a glorified random number generator... it could be so much more... Hope you keep with the idea and take it to the next level! :)

@Weekend-Panda I must correct you, games like these are often not RNG but crafted from look of tables, if you look at the google sheet link above you can see the values, they're then all devided by 10 and multiplied together which is a very simple way of doing it :)

*"I did plan on making a dating sim + Card Trading Game originally"* : someone did a dating sim + cards the last LD, and those themes are working well together ;) - see here : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/speed-date-shuffle

I tried to make games but I only got quadruple 1 notes, so I guess I did it wrong
I don't know why, but the theme list windows don't fit to the content, so I have only ~half of the left and right columns names…
I'm a great fan of Game Dev Tycoon, and what you've done in so short time is not bad! Hope you'll get more time the next LD. :)

My roguelike clicker for everyone "Fuzzy Buzzies" did significantly better than my adult puzzle visual novel "Butt Puzzles", but, though I'm disappointed, I'm going to keep making the games I wanna make hrumph.

The music is nice, but the game feels a bit lacking in terms of user feedback. Could become something!

Funny game idea. The graphics are pretty and fitting. I need more deep and visual feedback. A great little game.

Thx, for playing my game in your stream.

Really enjoy the mood and chill music.. although I wouldn't really consider this a game(no win/lose), it would be fun to play an expanded version of this! :)

I too loved the music but I didn't understand whether there was anything I can do to win. The only option that could make a difference was the work split and it wasn't working right (I could get all the bars to 100 how is that ?) and on the other hand the choices for the type of game I made yielded strange and unexpected results.

But anyway I congratulate you on publishing a game anyway regardless of the hard circumstances, I myself went through a lot of trouble to make my game this jam so I understand :)

Wish you all the best in your future jams :)

Hey I played this on stream, I made my own game in it :yum:

I loved all the different options and the sliders, I was pretty impressed by the amount of genres and combinations after taking a peek at the cheat sheet after :v:

I didn't find any glaring issues on my playthrough - Would have been really cool seeing the shelf of previous games!

Thanks for making, had alot of fun!

Nice. Made me think about Gamedev Tycoon (of course). For what I understood it is like a guessing game, which I'm not a big fan of. Good work anyway!

God dag!

My sentiments are more or less the same as those already expressed, I guess. It looks and sounds nice and it's fun thinking up different games, but on the whole there isn't a lot of feedback (gameplay-wise; of course each game gets literal feedback!) and it feels a bit repetitive. I'm not sure what I'd add, tho!

I haven't played Game Dev Tycoon, tho I'm aware of it, so I don't know how similar the two are, but I'm guessing this is a bit like a lite version of that? c:

The music is really good! Could listen to that for a while for sure, and that definitely happens as the player spends some time trying out different combinations.

Unfortunately I never managed to get that perfect score, but as you said yourself, it's not an easy feat! I did do quite well with a few concepts tho, and scored some nines at least! Afraid I don't remember what exciting combination gave me those, tho. :p

Flot spil, men der mangler måske noget?!
