Bribe or Die

In Bribe or Die you're a corrupted leader who is slowly losing power over time.

To regain your power you need to make yourself great again. To do that you need to bribe creatures. But be aware. Some creatures only want your money and won't bring you any power and will even drain it more. So be careful and bribe the right guys! Generally look for more "evil" looking ones, they're trouble.

Note: The Mac build was not tested since I don't own one.

Another note: Play the WebGL build only if absolutely necessary cause it's pretty janky...

Couldn't really get the hang of when to bribe or not to bribe. Liked the concept and interesting creatures

@autovelop Yeah... You need to play it a bit to find who you should bribe. Generally the more "evil" looking ones are bad and should not be bribed.

I managed 8 days in power. It's an interesting concept. I really like the variety in characters and the garbled voices :)

It might be nice if, rather than having the income change dynamically, it was based on setting a bribe amount. Maybe you are rewarded with money if you bribe successfully or something like that. So you can decide which characters to gamble on.

Anyway, great job!

Needs a tutorial.
Or even just add:

Fun to play, however i think you need a few tries to know who to bribe and who not. First time i did not last long after bribing a sword :)

Cool concept and art but gameplay is not quite clear.

The sounds are pretty cute, and the art works well. I found it difficult to remember which ones not to bribe (a lot felt like they would damage me either way) but I think I could get it with more practice.

I really liked the concept and characters but it takes a while to figure out what to do or who to bribe or not to bribe. The voices really cracked me up though.

Ha! Cool. Great sound design and straightforward concept.

I feel like the game needs one more "thing." Like something you can do when you have enough power/money, etc., but perhaps that's a revision for a later 48 hours!

@simonhutchinson I wanted to add more things to it but not no time for that :sob: I spend a lot of time trying to make the characters go into an actual queue (like in the menu), but... that was a disaster :joy: .

I like the graphics, funny characters, the game can improve, if you have more things that disrupt your bribe or something, I do not know, you would have to think.

I liked the sound effects and the graphics. Took me a while to really grasp who to bribe. While I finally figured out most of them, it seems that not bribing a particular person hurts you only slightly less than bribing them, so it can be kind of a crapshoot of who comes down the pipe next. Bill Cipher killed me a number of times.

Sound was awesome! Couldn't really figure out when to bribe or not before coming to the comments. Great Effort on the art as well!

Very nice idea, but like most people here, I didn't really understand who to avoid and who to bribe.
That said, if you tweak the design a bit to get that sorted out, you have a very very interesting mobile game on your hand!

@phantom-lab Thanks! I may look into making this concept into a better version of this for mobile

Yeah I agree with other people It was quite a struggle figuring out who to bribe or not. I guess that is the game but it was a little frustrating at first. Loved the audio and the graphics. Good job!

It seemed like the bribing was kind of random, two creatures that looked alike seemed to have different demands, i agree about the mobile game idea though. Also kudos for the Bill!(probably were other refences i didn't catch but oh well)

@xephrys Nah. Bill was the only reference. At first he was supposed to be a character you get very rarely and he would destroy you no matter what, or something like that. But ran out of time . He's still the most powerfull character in the game.

Solid game! Liked seeing Bill in it :) I was confused at first because I thought I was supposed to side with the more evil looking characters so I kept losing. Turns out I'm supposed to bribe creatures who look nicer. Good job overall :)

I never seemed to get the hang of who not to bribe but it was a funny concept anyways. Good characters and hilarious audio!

I like the idea, the game is simple and easy to play.

I think if would be nice if you could somehow tell what bribing, or not bribing will give you, not clearly, but for example some animation or buffs/debuffs for characters that come (water drop (representing uncomfortability) indicating that the character is nervious, or afraid and you have greater chance to bribe him and gain power)

### What I like:

- Simple gameplay
- Unique take on the theme
- Great sounds
- Great sprites

### What I think could be done better:
- It is rather difficult to work out which characters to bribe

Neat idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXq5UkQ9iWI
