Kitchen Nightmare by Fadex

[raw]
made by Fadex for LD 42 (COMPO)

I made a game where you are a cook in a kitchen owned by incompetent manager who buys a lot of food, and you have to deal with it ^^

The game needs a bit of balancing, but it's a proof of concept atleast :D

The concept is good and I could see myself playing a game like this again. Unfortunately the instructions were difficult to read due to the font used, and I could not remember any of the recipes because there were so many of them with no hints ingame. If you were to continue working on this, I would suggest adding tooltips with tips or possible combinations to the ingredients. All in all a nice game, I enjoyed the pixel art and the music.

Cute concept & quite polished, would be better with a levels system that slowly introduced you to new concepts though 'cause the recipes are really hard to remember!

EDIT:

Potentially a bug, in the recipes it says cheese + meat makes a sandwich, but this doesn't seem to work in the game!

Great game and interesting concept. I think the only problem with the game is remembering all the recipes is difficult, but that's more a fault of my own than the game's. I really like the visual style, and the background music and sound effects are nice too. Good job.

Game was seriously limited because of having to memorize recipes. Would have been fun if that wasn't a problem.

Nice game, looks very polished and the art is beautifull. Few things though, very unreadable font, and you should have added the recipes in the actual game window because there were so many of them! Very cool spin on the theme. Keep it up!

The audio really adds to this game. It's also really hard. It might be able to be improved if you slowly introduce the player to the recipes instead of giving them all at once.

@piece-ofcheese thanks! thought about this, mabye a learning gamemode where it shows what you can cook from current ingredients, or this.

Nice little game. I really like the art style and music, they lend to the light playful theme amazingly. I did have trouble with the actual game, it was very difficult to tell what could be combined into food on the fly because there are so many ingredients and recipes. Which was the whole point I guess. I thought that managing the table and fridge was a lot of fun and felt good, so maybe something like a pause to look at recipes, or drag an ingredient to a cookbook to see everything you can combine with it would have helped me. I thought that this was a lot of fun to play, great entry.

@smilewood ooh, I forgot to write that you can pause by pressing P or Escape, but that's far from what you want. thanks!

its actually a full fledge mini game, awesome pixelated graphic, much better than mine obviously lol, the sfx and music also on point, give it additional vibe, extremely hard tho, since i can't see the menu/recipe from inside the game, wish can do that, and also the font very unreadable at most part, but overall very well done !

love the pixel art, but it's hard to remember the recipes, otherwise it's a lot of fun

This was a realy nice entry, but personally my memory goes bananas after a couple combinations, I am the kind of person that reads recipes and learns on food combinations, but then here I tried to go for a garlic and onion styr-fry as a base, but wouldn't work.

Then tried all the other logical combinations, only french fries worked... got frustrated so fast.

Anyway I liked the game, just not a fan of memory games.

I like the game; however, I do feel like it needs some additional tweaking. Perhaps an accessible recipe/cookbook since it's not easy to remember any recipes from the start. I'd also suggest, perhaps a more of a progression/level up to unlock new and more complex recipes. The font was difficult to read as well.

Overall it was nice to see something created outside Unity =) Nice work

I had sword pan apparel when played Tales of Pirates years ago. Thank you for reminding about good times :)

Your game is very nice to play. The general impact is positive.
As a professional game dev I would suggest... just kidding haha
Nonetheless, if you want to work on this project more I suggest making a difficulty incresing algorithm.
Graphics - very nice. Controls are also working very well.
Maybe you could also take a glimpse at my game? I already enlarged it into a wholesome Android game :)
