Prison Escape by stephen321

[raw]
made by stephen321 for LD 39 (COMPO)

My first Ludum Dare! I had a lot of fun making this game though a lot of stuff didn't go as well as I would have liked.

Use W,A,S,D to move. Left click to shoot and mouse to aim. The power is running out and prisoners are escaping! Defend yourself against the angry mob. As the power decreases more prisoners are released from cells. The exit doors will open once the power hits 0 and all the prisoners are dead.

Change Log:

v1.0.1: I made a very small change to remove the ability to maximize the window as some people pointed out in the comments, this was causing problems.

Technologies used:

C++

rapidjson + SFML

Visual Studio 2017

Bosca Ceoil + BFXR + Audacity

Paint.net

Nicely done for you first Ludum Dare! Funny concept and impressive that you used C++ :) It is a little bit simple and I would have loved some more complexity, but overall I think its a fun game

@N4tticus Thanks :D. Yeah I got caught up making the art assets (I usually use simple shapes) and the audio (Bosca Ceoil is really fun to mess around with). I should have spent more of my time expanding on the game play as most of my ideas I didn't have time to implement. I really enjoyed the experience and can't wait for the next Ludum Dare!

Your controls are nice and responsive. A simple game, its small scope is very appropriate for your first LD, and it is well-executed. The only criticism I have is that one of the death sounds for your prisoners is a bit like vomiting, which is distracting, but that's a very minor thing on the whole. This is a solid entry, nice work and welcome to LD!

Hi, good job! First off, I liked the graphics and music!! So with some varied AI & a tad bit more difficulty this would be much improved. Fine work for a first LD!

Nice simple game, not bad for a first LD entry. I'm honestly unsure how it fits the theme though.

@oxrock Thanks. As the power in the bar at the top left runs down, more cell doors are opening releasing increasing amounts of prisoners.

I gotta say it was fun, especially around level 3 when the pace picks up! Made it to wave 5 before giving out! Makes me wonder how many waves there are...

Fun one, has a classic top down shooter feel to it. Good work! Will play some more to see if I can get further.

Nice work! Very impressive to use C++ for your first Ludum Dare! Neat concept, and pretty well executed. I also liked the music. I maximized the game right away which caused some issues, maybe in future if you don't support widow resizing make sure the window can't resize. Otherwise great job!

Nice game but not enough variation, also there's a glitch where your mouse gets off centered on full screen. you might want to do a mouse check every few seconds or assign a button to it, otherwise great game

Haha such a fun little game. Really reminded me of the old GTA. Well done. The only thing that bugged me was seeing the default mouse cursor. Would be cool to see a cross air.

Loved the voiced effects. Those bullets sound like they REALLY hurt!

Even though this might not be the most innovative game, i think it's actually a very impressive submission for the challenge! - The voice acting is pure gold! - Also pretty neat soundtrack.

Nice game. Quite fun to play. Gets a bit repetitive. Different types of enemies (some with more health, some faster, etc) would help a lot. I like the graphics and the small details, such as the red cross over the gates at the top when more gates open, and the green arrows pointing to the exit. Most Ludum Dare games don't get that level of perfection because we tend to run out of time (me included :D), but you have a very complete game. I like the fact that there's music and sound effects, but I don't feel like the music fits the game. Still far better than not having anything though. Also, a pause menu would be great. I had to take a quick break, and escape closed the whole game.
