Il Était Un Petit Navire (There was a little ship) by Yorsh

[raw]
made by Yorsh for LD 43 (COMPO)

Inspiration

I took my inspiration from a traditional french song : Il était un petit navire (There was a little ship)

In this song, the sailors are running out of food and want to eat one of them to survive.

The Game

You play a little ship. You have to survive as many days as possible.

You loose if your sailors get too hungry, too sad if the the ship is in too bad shape, or if there is no one left on the ship.

You can have up to 3 sailors at the same times on your ship. Choose your sailors wisely as each of them is unique...and you will eventualy have to cook some of them, since it's the only way to eat. You can find new sailors on islands. The little white arrow around the ship points toward the nearest island.

Note that time pauses while you don't move.

Controls

Hold right click or space to move in the direction of your mouse cursor. Drag&Drop characters with the left click. Drag them on the fire to cook them, or on your ship to add them to your crew (you have to be close enough from the island to be able to drag&drop the sailor).

Skills

Weight : How much there is to eat on this sailor, the bigger the better.

Fun : Being for days on a small ship can be pretty boring, you need a little bit of fun to not turn crazy. If your sailors are too boring, the mood will get worse and worse over time.

Woodworking : The ship have to be kept in good shape, make sure some of your sailors know how to do that.

Sailing : You can move much faster if yuo bring good sailors on your ship.

Appetite : Some sailors eat more than others, be carefull.

Pretty good game, it diserve a lot more ratings !
As soon as I understood the rules of desision making and the consequences, I really enjoyed playing again and do the better score possible.
From the other games I tested from this Ludumdare, this is one of those who better included the sacrifice theme.
Graphically, this is simple but there is a good harmony between all the environments and characters, and the UI is pretty good.

I hope you will have more reactions on the future.

As a conclusion, I pretty enjoyed this game, you have a good mark from me.

Well done :)

PS : Le petit navire n'avais ja ja jamais navigué ohé ohééééééé ! :D

Google Chrome thinks you game contains a virus. Maybe that's the reason so few players are playing it 😟

@nekonyo Indeed, that's a bit weird. I've seen it for other games tho, so maybe it's just a common thing for exe in .zip. First time it happens to one of my project tho, idk what I changed. I'll try to add one of those antivirus protected links (no idea if it actually does something tho).

This said the main reason not many people are playing it is that I haven't been playing many games myself for now.

That warning when downloading the zip did not come in any other Ludum Dare 🤔. At the end I ignored the warning and donwloaded it. I don't think there will be a virus inside of it . After playing it, I am disappointed 😞 od dying because I try to get to other island which is too far away. Or get your sailors don't know how to repair the ship and you die. My main concern is game balance, but the game itself is very original and has a good potential 😁

From the many games made with similar mechanics, this one is by far my favorite! I'd love to see some good ending for the game, like if you make it through 100 days, big ship will come and pick you up, or something. Anyway, wonderful game!

@nekonyo I see what you mean. I kinda ran out of time at playtest time. Thanks for trying it out :)

You're welcome. The deadline is a problem when testing a game 🙂.

Really cool game and it really fit the theme well. However the game could have had some audio to make the experience more fun and engaging. As Bootak said, something could happen after x amount of time.

But all in all a solid game!

Really nice idea! ^^
It gets a couple of tries to understand how all this really works, but once you get it, it's pretty fun.

It does get a bit frustrating sometimes when the islands are just too far away, or your sailors too incomptent, but I understand the trouble of meeting the deadline ;)
Some audio would have been nice as well. Otherwise, this is a rather solid game with a funny and enjoyable idea! Congrats!

Really fun game and original idea. I kept losing due to ship's shape though.

Interesting, but it kind of gets boring after a while.

Made it to day 126 by getting a good set from the offset and just eating any survivors we came upon.

Nice concept!, but it may be more entretaining that "just moving around" slowly between far islands and without sound :S
