Medic ! by Eryph
Ludum Dare 43/Theme : sacrifices must be made
Hi ! Welcome in Medic!
Come play and try to save as many citizens as you can with limited resources. The first shift may be a bit hard, but try again and upgrade your medics to be the best.
How to play ?

Resolve events and develop strategies to save as many citizens as you can

Specialize and upgrade your medic through the talent tree

Survive 6 shifts

And take a rest... before trying again ?
Feel free to post your saved/death ratio in the comment section, but remember: screenshot or it never happened !
And we can't try it on Linux, if someone could and tell us if it works we would be eternally grateful !
If you want to play the Web build WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TO PLAY FULLSCREEN, while unity embed player is weirdly stretching the screen causing UI bugs...
We hope you'll enjoy !

Edit : a failure ...
Keep the great work, and please continue developing it after the jam is over!:sparkles:
Maybe 1 thing, the "validation" sound is probably a bit to high, but at least the music is great and immersive and about the emotion, you realy feel the sacrifices that you have to do to reach the next level (maybe the next city to save?). Not hard to take in hands, not hard to end, nice design.
Thanks for the experience.
@captainweeaboo, sorry to hear the mix doesn't work for you, and yeah, the cards are reaaaally too fast for anyone to read ! But if you're willing to make some sacrifices, you can take the time to read it (sometimes it worth it) ;)
@binarylynx, aaaaaand it's here !
@carbonara, @badosz, @owlycode, thank you so much for your comments !!!

Thank's so much !
However, in the talent tree you can buy two more units for a total of 5 so you can save more lives ^^
@theonethatneverwas thank you, it's heart warming ☺
Like in a previous comment, i think that the description is more of less useless, maybe you could add "effect" on cards that need to be read and treat with specifics medics and then the player will have to make a "greater sacrifice" than just the amount of civils to save.
The music work finely on me and add some presure during my shifts.
The gameplay in general is nice (the 2 events timeline, the upgrade system, the rest time after each event)
In conclusion, nice work ! If i see this game in sale on steam, be sure that i will be a player :)
Hard the first time but it's possible to improuve our skill after some others party.
One thing : I clic several time on the upgrade "timer" of one of my "First Aid" and the card saty stuck down with no timer... I understand that I could pick it even if the card wwas down.

Is this a fast paced card game? A simulation? A roguelike puzzle experience? With skill trees? Hell yeah, it's everything and goshdangit I want it on my phone. I swear, this is one of the few games of LD that I'd really like to play even after the judging session is over. It's just so good, addictive, and with so many decisions that truly make the player want to try different approaches.
I'm labelling it with the dreaded-yet-true _easy to learn, hard to master_ motto. 3 runs in and I'm still on a 56% average. I'm going to get lawsuits up the wazoo, but in all fairness, if these people can't make it through dumb accidents, wheelchair racing or freaking street fights (I lol'd), I'd say it's more on natural selection than my poor prioritizing skills.
With great music and atmospheric visuals, this is quite an immersive game. Perhaps my favorite of the jam to date. [I'll be informing my team about it](discord.whalesandgames.com), with the idea that they'll find it as engaging as I did. Kudos, and keep making greatness! :whale:
My absolute favourite thing about this game is the inclusion of the description of the emergencies, this is brilliant becuase as the operator you realize that these don't matter. Instead of thinking about what happened to these people you look at them as just numbers. My only complaint with the event descriptions is that th
ere was not enough variety, which deimmeresed me after I saw the 4th wheel chair race in one day, that felt off.
I didn't really notice a difference when using the fast moving skill tree, so I would make that more impactful.
And the one I see most is about the texts and the speed of the card who don't allow time to read them. I reassure you : it's only some fluff and funny things. The text doesn't have any importance (yet ?). For example, the text on the critical card (those that pass on the bottom line) is something like "this card is too fast to be read. If you can, you probably got an old computer".
There is serious description, some funny, or with black humor, but all of them is just fluff.
My score isn't great, but I'm posting a screenshot since it's always nice to see as devs how players are doing.
I want to see this as a table-top card game, possibly partnered with the studio that made Pandemic, which I enjoy. This may top that. Phenomenal work in a short time to make such a complete game. 5/5 across the board. You even resisted adding the Wilhelm scream. GG

You have to create an endless mode and turn it on mobile !!!
I ended up playing four games in a row trying to optimize my strategy and I'm going back for another one. EXCELLENT game. Well done!
If I may make a suggestion: Drags can be annoying for laptop users. Could you consider supporting a click to select a card and a click to put it on a patient? Or even better, number keys to pick a card and a click to put it in place. That way reaction time isn't so limited by hardware.
Really nice thought of the concept!
I think the game has a nice replay factor, because the player wants always try too save as many people as possible.
