The Expendables by frenchie

Instructions:
You cannot attack! You must send your minions to die for you and survive as long as possible. To control a minion, have the overlord walk up close to it. They won't sacrifice themselves if they aren't ordered to! They'll destroy any enemy they touch, at the cost of their own lives! You can also order them to use some abilities (they'll still die though, so that's on your conscience too).
Controls:
- WASD to move the overlord
- Minions move to mouse pointer
- E to turn a minion into a shield that only blocks enemies
- Q to turn a minion into a bomb that hurts everyone!
- Note: minions will go to your mouse position for abilities
Hey! Listen!
I'm running a series of streams where I play LD games and then open up the source code to try to make some improvement. The improvement might be a new feature/mechanic, polishing something that's already there, fixing some bugs / performance issues, or just screwing around and adding Easter Eggs. If you're interested in participating, fill out this form! If you just wanna watch, follow me on Twitch!

The sounds just make the game, and the art style/quality was spot-on. Amazing job!
I love how when things fall from the sky, you can't tell if it's a friendly or not.
(I tried using one of my minions as a bomb then getting taken out, but it didn't count the sacrifice.
- the delay on minions going to shield or bomb made it really hard to get them to actually impact the enemies.
- it wasn't clear what the actual goal was in the game.
- Given that the minion behavior is targeted with the mouse, I would have put the abilities on left/right mouse button
Something that I noticed when playing is that I wasn’t using the abilities that much. Especially the the bomb felt a bit hard to make any significant impact with and you just ended up wasting a minion most of the time if you tried to use it. I figured that the best way to get something out of the bomb is to use it with the shield, but even then it’s was only somewhat useful if you only had a few minions. This because in order to place the bomb next to the enemies behind the shield you basically need to move all your minions close. If you have many of them they tend to run into the enemies and kill them, and then placing the bomb becomes unnecessary. You could of course try to place the bomb first and then the shield, but I found this to be too difficult to get right to bother. So for the first part of the game I ended up just running around collecting minions and running them into enemies. So basically I think at least the bomb should be buffed in some way. Maybe decrease the time before the detonation, or alternatively make it fire like a projectile that explodes on impact. The shield was still good I think and I used it more in the later stages when the shooting enemies appeared.
A minor issue I also had was that I initially thought you were to collect something to get points, as I didn’t understand that it was the enemies that were scrap. Adding the score to the UI would probably help to make this clearer.
It would also probably be a good thing to have some distinction between the boxes that fall from the sky. Because the minion and enemy boxes look the same, I started to associate all the boxes with minions and ran into them right away and died instantly when the enemies spawned instead.
Overall really good and I enjoyed it a ton! The sound effects are funny and I really like the art style as well. Feels a little bit like don’t starve.
Also, thanks you again for playing and improving my game!
