Dig Knight by Pixels Everywhere

[raw]
made by Pixels Everywhere for LD 41 (COMPO)

This game was developed by Pixels Everywhere for the Ludem Dare 41. You play as Dig Knight, who breaks through rocks, ores, and monsters with his sword. Dont let the monsters reach the caution signs, or you will loose hp! Dont touch the bombs (unless you are trying to gain a strategic advantage, and dont mind loosing a chunk of hp and some score in return). How high of a score can you get? I hope you have as much fun playing this game as I did making it!

This game can be contoled using the a keyboard or a gamepad. A (Gampad: R-Arrowkey) and D (Gamepad: L-Arrowkey) will move the player around. Pressing W (Gamepad: A) will jump. Pressing S (Gamepad: X) will slam downward. Use ENTER (Gamepad: Start) and Shift (Gamepad: Back) to pause the game, and navigate the menus.

Nice concept, graphics and sound, but just to know, what you think genres this game apply?

It was supposed to cross rpg and puzzle mining style games. Thanks for your feedback!

Oh man an installer... Eck! Haven't played it yet, but you should change it so it exports to a zip file.

Sweet game, really like the concept. I would love to play this on Android. If you do continue to work on it (it's very good) please update this page with info so I can keep track!

Hey, I enjoyed your game, it reminded me of a couple of games I made in the past as well as my favorite arcade game of all time, Super Puzzle Platformer.

It is a bit buggy as expected of a jam game, and sometimes the generation of the blocks makes a guaranteed death, but over all it is a great little game!

@good-enough Unfortunately, some block spawns just leave the player with a (shit outa luck) spawn. Ill be working on some patches and fixes tomorrow. Thanx! Glad you liked it!

Cute visuals! It's pain to install a game, is there no way to export it without an installer? (for future players)
Fun overall.

Pretty fun once you get a good run going, sometimes the bomb placement just screws you though so some more balancing would have been great. Also I'm not entirely sure what the slam actually does.
I really liked the cute artstyle and catchy audio, with a bit more polish on the gameplay and balancing i reckon I would have kept playing for a while.
My highscore was 972.

@IDidGame The slam is supposed to be quicker, but as you said, it needs some re-balancing for it to be more useful. It might work better as intended, if you use a controller.

Easy to learn. Nice and responsive controls. Graphics look professional. Sounds are kind of meh, kind of all around too bassy.

I was somehow running negative score. :dog: You should prolly cap that to 0. Hehe.
🎤 Pixels Everywhere
23. Apr 2018 · 13:55 UTC
@Keppu The negative score is intentional. If it feels strange, I can change it. :).
Keppu
23. Apr 2018 · 14:00 UTC
Negative score feels like the game is not just sending me back to start to score 0, but actually defeating me. :D

I don't know what to make of it honestly.

23. Apr 2018 · 14:47 UTC
@keppu There will be a bundle of different updates and changes added to the zip that will be uploaded to the itch.io page tonight. Ill fix it then. And damn, actually defeating you? XD Thats pretty rough. Ill definitely change that. Another change i might make as well, is changing the interval of time in which you can use the slam ability. I feel like it needs to be used faster for the game to feel more fair. Thanx for your feedback!

nice pixel art and the music was cool! The sound effects were a little harsh, maybe just lowering their volume in comparison to music would help.

I liked it a lot, very interesting mechanics. The graphics all fit nicely together and the controls are quite simple and easy to use. The game has a handheld vibe to it, that suggests that it would be even greater on a small device like a phone.

Nice pixel, gameplay was a bit weird but once I started dodging bombs, planning my hits and leveling out the terrain my points started to go up nicely. Great Job.

The game is very tight and well realized. It's also innovative though I'm not sure which two genres you were trying to combine. That said, it's still a great entry so good job!

@LemonBalmGames It was supposed to be a cross between rpg games, and some sort of mining puzzle arcade game. It kinda ended up being its own thing tho

I'd call that simple yet efficient! The gameplay is a bit limited but actually it works just fine the way it is - I'd say it's a shame there are no bonuses or things that move to up the challenge but seen as you gotta make sure you stey towards the top of the screen and don't hit the bombs, it keeps you busy for the most part. Nicely done, it's a good game all around, nice one :-D

Hah, it's a simple game, but quite good and polished! The graphics are very good and the concept is fun to play; I wish there was more content (different enemies, powers and such), but I had fun playing this!
