Hello.

This is the 80s calling.

We have to close the Super Starcade.

...

... Well, unless YOU can keep it afloat.

Cover2.png

Manage an Arcade, straight from the 80s!

The amount of power you have is limited, so make sure you balance the Entertainement equipement (that attracts more kids in your Arcade), and the Arcade cabinets (which generate money).

Cover3.png

Buy cartridges for your cabinets! Buy more power! Pay your bills, save money... and maybe, maybe, survive the 80s!

Already told Fat Bard this, but the game is REALLY awesome. Everything is super polished, really really impressed. Good job!

This game is very very polished, nice job. I wish the cartridges were easier to buy (probably just randomly generated game names would be a funny touch), especially since there is no difference between them. I also did not understand that I had to buy cartridges again every day, so I lost on day 2 feeling kind of frustrated. Awesome game nonetheless =)

I think power is abit on the expensive side atm, vs the income that it generates. I won on day 5 with 180 power, but I think probably would have been better off not buying as much power.

Oh man, this is awesome. Literally my only complaint is that sometimes the jukebox stops playing and has to be restarted manually. Doesn't even affect the game, but I wanna keep that music playing!

Wonderful game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUVd1KNAvFY

This looks really fun! Any chance for a Mac or web build?

@simonhutchinson I wish, but the pathfinding just shit itself on HTML5, thanks to Game Maker... not being great whenever you try to do complex stuff. As for Mac, I have no way of debugging/testing any build, I'm sorry :(

Wow, this game is surely going to win in a category I'm sure ! The graphics, the music, the idea... everything is well in this game ! I was sad because it was not infinite :( I wanted to play it more and more ! Congrats !

One of the games that kept me playing longer in this LD. Really cool idea, an arcade management game! I'm looking for how this game will evolve.

The only thing that I felt that was not good was that when the day ends there is a little whiplash on the music transition. And that there is no proper difference on which cartridge you buy.

Oh wow, this game is incredibly well crafted! I love the Earthbound-like graphics, and the theme really sold it! It's also nice to see a character-centric management sim. I really like this! :D

The only one point I think could be addressed is that the days take a load of time to pass. Other than that, it sure can flourish into an awesome game with some more time! :D

Absolutely spectacular presentation! The concept of managing an arcade is solid too, but interactivity is sorely lacking.

Here's what you do everyday:
* Pay the bills
* Buy more max power (if you have money),
* Buy more cartridges (if you have money and power)
* Turn on the power
* Plug in all the machines again, one at a time.
* Wait...

That is all, for 5 days. It is the plugging in and waiting bits that make no sense to me.

The machines that I've already plugged in (or activated as is the case with the other entertainments) should stay plugged in. Why would the arcade owner unplug all the machines everyday when they have a master power switch? They would not. The waiting. 3 minutes everyday with nothing to do (plugging in everything again doesn't count as you shouldn't need to do it).

Here are a few ideas for a Post-Jam version, if you're going for that:

* Litter. Kids litter. You need to keep cleaning it up or the mood goes down.
* Puke. Kids puke (give them candies and flashing lights aplenty, you'll see). Once again you need to clean it up or suffer a massive mood penalty.
* Machine malfunction. Takes time to sort it out. Maybe even needs professional help, which costs money.

Basically, some things you need to take care of while the day ticks on. Importantly these tasks need to happen often enough that you are forced to make choices. Do I need that machine back up today or should I clean the floors?

Good work. Great if there was more to do and decisions to make.

Dude, this entry is awesome, to say the least! Incredibly well polished and really well thought! Also, you made it totally believable to have this type of game on a 16-bit console to me! :P

Visually, it looks beautiful, the pixel art was really well-crafted here in every single object in the game. The references to games in the cartridge names were really good and sound work here is superb! Congrats there!

The game mechanics could've differences between the cartridges, but this and other stuff are just small stuff to polish! It totally rocks! Good job there! :D

@huvaakoodia (and everyone giving feedbacks about not having enough to do) I mean, yeah, it's a jam game, that's why there's only waiting ahah; we initially wanted to have to repair machines so you'd have to turn on/off machines during the day and have more stuff to do. Kid litter is a great idea though, we didn't think about cleaning up!
Thanks for the feedacks, though. :)

Fun game, enjoyed the use of the theme. Thought the art and music worked really well together and liked that you went for the 80s vibe, great era to set an arcade in. As others have mentioned it would be great if there was more variety to do while the games are going but since this is a jam I can definitely understand and this is so polished for what you have been able to get it. In my first go I was only able to get $600 but I'm getting there :)
