Have you ever wondered how your (love) life would have played out had you been born a manticore? Did you always want to have a harem full of cute and terrifying monsters? Us too! And now finally the answer to all these questions is here.

ezgif-5-ef60cec3c6.gif

"Rose-Coloured Dungeon Life", a game that has you romancing monsters instead of killing them. (We mean that. No killing monsters neccessary.) Instead you slaughter humans (they deserve it), get to know up to four unique partners (could it be there is a secret fifth one? naaaah.) and save the dungeon. We know you love to be the knight in shining armor. (Though you may die some times. Use WaifuMode for more waifu and less shining.)

@HomoLudens The crashes should be fixed now, so you can try playing the game again.

Well, I think I got through the whole game, after accidentally killing the fish person. The game seems pretty polished, but I feel like the combat system is seriously lacking. It's pretty difficult to hit the enemies, and it's practically impossible to avoid being hit, especially in close combat, which means I was only able to kill a couple of enemies without enabling Waifu Mode.

The Windows version crashes every time I attack and when I touch the flamingo statue

I upset the Flamingodess in one of my runs. Loved the insult spree.

I really enjoyed the presentation of this game. The spritework is reminiscent of old school PC games, and the portraits were really vivid. Cute when they needed to be, and menacing when it called for it (like the Flamingodess). Game felt really old-school, but the combination of dungeon crawling with visual novel options made it very unpredictable.

My concern here was the combat though. It stared not bad at all, but I struggled a lot in the second level because of the cultists attacking from many angles and quickly, while only having melee attacks to defend myself, with very low range. Getting through the fight moments can be very frustrating.

Regardless, the interaction parts were the highlight. Very funny and interesting dialogues, including the "Thot" eldritch abomination. Great work out there.

Here's hoping to see more of these characters in the future. [My team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) would really like to check more games later on. Kudos! :whale:

PD: Heads up. The download version was detected by my anti-virus. You may want to check that out to prevent people from ignoring the game.

It would be more intuition if the dialogues would appear to the right and left side of the screen depending on who's talking. Sometimes it's confusing to know who is saying what.
Dialogues are a little too long for me as well. But they are funny though.

The quality of the drawings of the character for the dialogues is better than the game graphics itself.

It was hard to get how the killing system works but after insisting a little i got the hang of it and could help all the monsters and kill all the humans. I didn't find the tail attack and dash useful.

I'm just pointing some stuff I think could improve, but overall the game is good and funny.

The combat system is bit hard to understand. I use only the paw, the others move are too slow to beat the human. Apart from that the rest of the game is very cool and I love the universe. Good job! :)

@dovakla It seems like the game is crashing anytime it tries to load/play sound effects. Maybe updating your audio driver would help. Otherwise I have no idea since no one can reproduce your issue. Sorry for that.

@MacDoom I'll try to look into that. Did you talk to flamingo before entering the hole?

@Alex13 You need to move while pressing L to dash. Otherwise there would be no way of knowing in which direction you even want to dash.

@Junber I got it to work! I think Avast didn't like it.

I love the monsters and the art is fantastic but combat is pretty frustrating. I only used the paw attack and I didn't see the point to the other two. Even on Waifu Mode I got close to dying since I couldn't figure out how to avoid taking damage.

If you can polish up the combat and keep the writing and graphics, this could be really fun. Good job!

You we're right. Didn't got well that "e" would become the "enter" for the rest of the game.
Awesome graphics and portraits! Nice audio and good reference to ELP <3
It was fun although the different levels we're similar except for the graphics.
It's good what you have but it has a feeling of uncompleteness.
Good work!

I love the characterd style, especially that lion :D The UI and the moveset are quite nice too. The overall mood works well and i liked to progress though the different levels (didn't finished though :o)

Combat can be of course improved, but it's hard to have a decent combat system in a game jam, you should keep that lore and work the internia of the player

Well done : )

I like about everything in this except the combat system which makes the fighting so hard for me that I didn't go very far unfortunately.

This is surprisingly polished for a LD entry, the character designs particularly are very well realised. I loved the dialogue in this, the writing is great. Awesome work.

I don't really get how the combat system is supposed to work or to be any fun :( Close-to-impossible to hit what you want and avoiding hits is nearly the same. Maybe some introductory enemies that let you know the combat system better without killing you in instant? Besides that I very much like the fluffy lion taco and the work you actually put into the characters ;)

I really dig the art of the monsters, it looks very polished, but that sadly cannot be said about the in-game graphics. I know the time limit is harsh, but the UI and pixel art could be improved upon.
I enjoy the setting, the idea and the main character, that fluffy guy has potential. Not a fan of the combat system, its very punishing in a really not fair way. I can see lots of hard work behind the game and I am pretty sure you can rock even harder with a skilled designer!

Art, impressive job by the team. Fusion of genres, good. Nice polish all round on assets as well: sfx, music, ui, death screens, many dialogue options, animation fx, backgrounds. Only let down was the combat, I found it too sharp a difficulty curve to get past much of the starting content, which is a shame, really - the game is very nice in other regards.

Art was good and audio was also very good but the dialog was a bit to long my taste. Liked that you had an easy mode. Combat got a bit repetitive would liked more variation. But all in all a good game!

Great job team, I imagine there were a lot of laughs making a game like this. The dialog is very funny and well-written, and all the graphics and animations are on point, lots of attention to detail. The combat gameplay is fun, I just wish the levels started off easy (and simple level layouts) and then progressively got harder. I like that you included waifu mode. Great job I had a lot of laughs!

Thank you for sharing your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.

Like I said in the stream I think the e key is not an obvious choice for select. I'd prefer if the key were enter or space. Since it is not 100% intuitive, I recommend adding an indication in the chat window to press E to continue.

The dialog was funny and polished. I hope I didn't butcher it too much when reading it out loud.

There were some visual glitches like the black bars I kept hiding underneath. In the future, it would be better to add boulders or different walls to indicate hiding behind these objects or merely prevent the player from walking below the black sections.

Was I supposed to be able to grab the artifact before the humans showed up in the scene?

Lastly, I'd encourage you to add some visual in the first level to promote the player to hit Esc to change the setting or have a dialogue after they die the first time that directs them to turn on the waifu feature.

Otherwise, I liked the concept and hope you continue to work on the project.

Thank you for sharing

This game is so cool! I love the graphics and characters of this game especially the different personalities each one has. The gameplay is rather difficult though and is hard to hit enemies but, the music is great which really sets the tone. I am a sucker for any game with a story so top remarks from me! Great JOB!

come check out our game we are still trying to get to 20 votes!

I had a lot of fun plaything this all the way through on my stream! I wish there was a balance in between the two health modes. I think w/o the extra health it's too hard and with it, it is too easy. Maybe some additional healing mechanic could assist in this.

The visual-novel part was really fun. It has nice writing and humor, and all of the references were really well made. But the dungeon-crawler part was quite a chore, so you need to work on this part or get rid of it.

Hey, I really enjoyed this game! Thanks for sharing with me on twitter :) I really liked the personality that came through in the characters. I also did a dating-sim for one of my genres - great choice there and tying all the gameplay together.

Nice art! I think the game is probably too hard without the extra health mode. The moment you get close to someone with a sword they will hit you, and they do enough damage to kill you before you can do damage to them, so it doesn't feel very possible without the extra health.

I liked some of the choices in the game, but did not like the writing. Perhaps just a reflection of tropes that already exist, but they are not very good tropes to begin with for character development.

Lol this was hilarious - the writing was great! Artwork matched it, and like others havementioned - I found the actual battle parts a bit lacking (but that's understandable). Good stuff!
