Rose-Coloured Dungeon Life by Junber

Have you ever wondered how your (love) life would have played out had you been born a manticore? Did you always want to have a harem full of cute and terrifying monsters? Us too! And now finally the answer to all these questions is here.

"Rose-Coloured Dungeon Life", a game that has you romancing monsters instead of killing them. (We mean that. No killing monsters neccessary.) Instead you slaughter humans (they deserve it), get to know up to four unique partners (could it be there is a secret fifth one? naaaah.) and save the dungeon. We know you love to be the knight in shining armor. (Though you may die some times. Use WaifuMode for more waifu and less shining.)

I really enjoyed the presentation of this game. The spritework is reminiscent of old school PC games, and the portraits were really vivid. Cute when they needed to be, and menacing when it called for it (like the Flamingodess). Game felt really old-school, but the combination of dungeon crawling with visual novel options made it very unpredictable.
My concern here was the combat though. It stared not bad at all, but I struggled a lot in the second level because of the cultists attacking from many angles and quickly, while only having melee attacks to defend myself, with very low range. Getting through the fight moments can be very frustrating.
Regardless, the interaction parts were the highlight. Very funny and interesting dialogues, including the "Thot" eldritch abomination. Great work out there.
Here's hoping to see more of these characters in the future. [My team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) would really like to check more games later on. Kudos! :whale:
PD: Heads up. The download version was detected by my anti-virus. You may want to check that out to prevent people from ignoring the game.
Dialogues are a little too long for me as well. But they are funny though.
The quality of the drawings of the character for the dialogues is better than the game graphics itself.
It was hard to get how the killing system works but after insisting a little i got the hang of it and could help all the monsters and kill all the humans. I didn't find the tail attack and dash useful.
I'm just pointing some stuff I think could improve, but overall the game is good and funny.
@MacDoom I'll try to look into that. Did you talk to flamingo before entering the hole?
@Alex13 You need to move while pressing L to dash. Otherwise there would be no way of knowing in which direction you even want to dash.
I love the monsters and the art is fantastic but combat is pretty frustrating. I only used the paw attack and I didn't see the point to the other two. Even on Waifu Mode I got close to dying since I couldn't figure out how to avoid taking damage.
If you can polish up the combat and keep the writing and graphics, this could be really fun. Good job!
Awesome graphics and portraits! Nice audio and good reference to ELP <3
It was fun although the different levels we're similar except for the graphics.
It's good what you have but it has a feeling of uncompleteness.
Good work!
Combat can be of course improved, but it's hard to have a decent combat system in a game jam, you should keep that lore and work the internia of the player
Well done : )
Good job !
I enjoy the setting, the idea and the main character, that fluffy guy has potential. Not a fan of the combat system, its very punishing in a really not fair way. I can see lots of hard work behind the game and I am pretty sure you can rock even harder with a skilled designer!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.

Like I said in the stream I think the e key is not an obvious choice for select. I'd prefer if the key were enter or space. Since it is not 100% intuitive, I recommend adding an indication in the chat window to press E to continue.
The dialog was funny and polished. I hope I didn't butcher it too much when reading it out loud.
There were some visual glitches like the black bars I kept hiding underneath. In the future, it would be better to add boulders or different walls to indicate hiding behind these objects or merely prevent the player from walking below the black sections.
Was I supposed to be able to grab the artifact before the humans showed up in the scene?
Lastly, I'd encourage you to add some visual in the first level to promote the player to hit Esc to change the setting or have a dialogue after they die the first time that directs them to turn on the waifu feature.
Otherwise, I liked the concept and hope you continue to work on the project.
Thank you for sharing
come check out our game we are still trying to get to 20 votes!

I liked some of the choices in the game, but did not like the writing. Perhaps just a reflection of tropes that already exist, but they are not very good tropes to begin with for character development.
