"Hoku..."

"What is it?"

"Do you desire the power?"

"..."

"Yes."

"The ghosts have kept it from us long enough, but no more. I will gather their souls."

"If you acquire it, the world may finally be filled with light..."

"And if I fail?"

"Then the world will turn dark forever."

"And what about you, mother?"

"I don't belong in this world, it won't matter if I cease to exist."

Screenshot3.png

Controls:

  • Hold down X to make Hoku follow you.

  • Press Z to release all power.

  • Hold down C to channel energy and regain power.

  • If you run out of power, the world will turn dark.

Screenshot2.png

Known Issues:

  • The background audio doesn't loop. (although barely noticable since the tracks themselves are long enough)
  • Hoku will flip when he reaches -45 degrees instead of the intended -90 degrees.
  • You can go through lasers if your determined enough.
  • Not really an issue but the last level is way too hard .

That ending, man. Wasn't expecting that, to say the least. Also, I can't seem to quit the ending screen.

Really aesthetic game, that switching idea gave me an Ikaruga feel. Only thing I didn't like was how much vertical and horizontal movement differ. Evading ghosts vertically was about 400% more problematic than dodging their buddies placed on horizontal sections.

Music and mood were great. The effects really helped a lot. Cool game!

Interesting play on the theme. It would have been nice if the screen was square so you could move equally fast vertically and horizontally (unless its different in the standalone, I played it in web).

Nice mood, too.

Really cool idea I like the switching mechanic. the level design could use some work, I often find myself not knowing where to go. Overall a really great game.

It's a really good take on the theme, but the time it took to recharge power was annoying

Interesting control mechanics, love the dual world premise. The particle effects are well done and the graphics and sounds give a strong atmosphere.

Recharging power is too slow. Beside this it's interesting idea.

I really liked the control, the fact of using the keyboard and mouse to move is very interesting, a cool game, the art is good, the sounds fits the game idea, and the game have some cool small animations, great job !

Nice game, but I found myself having the charge way too much, and it took way too long. That's the only problem I can see! The Art is amazing!!!

A good gameplay mechanic, i really liked it. Yeah, the charging is kinda annoyingly slow. It would be cool to see the full game!

Some odd bugs and the slow charging + gating puzzles make this a bit less than it could be, but a cool concept you should continue exploring!

Having the tutorial level and then having the player select the play button as a portal was great. Solidified the whole game concept. Nice job!

Very interesting and risky game design, I loved it! Only thing that broke my flow was the 10 seconds recharge time, I felt it was a bit much?

Very cool concept, and nicely done for the time limit!!

Ten seconds is a very long time, really destroys the flow of the game, mechanics like this are really getting you out of the zone in my opinion.

The intro and connection to the main game is very nice.

The graphics are fine but the "mother" (I guess) looks really out of place, one pixel anime character amongst hand-drawn abstract objects.

The controls are OK but not suited for non-English keyboards, many European keyboards (like mine) do not put the Z X and C keys next to each other so you might have to have a weird hand position.

Why use the mouse for moving, on my landscape screen I can go a lot faster to the left and right than up and down which feels strange. The arrow keys would have done the trick more nicely I guess.

I quit the game after getting killed in level two, this is not really very appealing to me.

Still, a solid entry, like I said, really liked the intro, very good job there, keep up the good work!

The switching theme gave huge flashbacks to Ikaruga which is good thing, I feel that mechanic is often underused. It's very playable, the graphics are a bit mis-matched in places but nothing terrible. The controls seem fine and the gameplay itself is pretty solid too. Overall good entry, great little time waster! ^-^
