This Game Sucks by tinykidtoo

[raw]
made by tinykidtoo for LD 44 (COMPO)

You find yourself in a room with a talking knife. There are leeches guarding you from escaping. Can you make it out? But the doors won't open unless you give them more life.
This is a ThumbNail.png3d stealth action game that requires the player to harvest energy from those hunting him. Can you remain in the shadows and gain the appropriate amount of life to leave this weird building?ScreenShot.png

There are bugs in how the AI behaves and they may not perform in an expected manner. Something tells me that lack of sleep and ambition got the better of me on this project.YouDied.png

I scaped! nice to have a button assistance on every action, also moving the mouse to scape the monsters is a great detail. The music make me feel like a futuristic James Bond xd Congratulations!

Interesting take on the theme! Haven't gotten to play as a remora before. The mouse-shake thing feels like it could use some tuning; I had to shake it -really- fast to get an enemy off of me. The level design is really elaborate for a compo game. Nice work.

Very nice controlls with the action assistance and really like the idea of having to get your life by taking it out of others. Awsome work considering it was a compo entry :)

Woah this game does suck ...JK really good stuff for a compo entry congrats! Just wondering after I consumed all the blood I couldn't hide the body after is the intentional?

@twobythree I am glad you liked the music, its my first attempt during a game jam, ive been teaching myself music theory.

@mahalis I do think with some tuning the shaking could feel really good. I will have to do some testing with different mice to get a more universal approach.

@dracodi I was worried that it would be confusing, I got a lot of comments on my last jam game, I am glad it gave you the assistance you needed.

@spooky Yes, the idea was to force you to choose to leave a corpse that has been sucked or hide it so the AI won't go into a high alert state. This never got fully fleshed out.

@mrdrakert I am sorry to hear that it made you dizzy. I left the camera on the unity default, which is not perfect for an FPS. I am glad you still liked it.

Indeed the music is very nice! Atmospheric that suits the gameplay. Loved the title. The game is clearly unfinished but it had potential to be a nice stealth game with a creepy atmosphere.

@le-slo I am glad that you liked it, unfortunately I did run out of time and rushed the game out the door. That is life in a game jam though.

Liked the overview of the level upon exiting the first area. Liked the shaking off mechanic. Thumbs up overall

@slayzar I am glad that the overview helped you, I was thinking it would be good to show the player what he is getting into. I do think the shaking mechanic with some tweaks and effects could make a good system to layer into a horror game.

@dezarius Thanks, I was working right up until the deadline. Never something I want to do but it seems to always happen. I guess I need to pair down my ideas a bit.

Don't worry about having too much ambition, we've all been there. And you made a pretty cool entry, great job!

@fashionbatman I am glad that you liked my game. It tells me the ambition and loss of sleep was all worth it.

Spooky man! :)

An interesting concept. But I disliked the movement because I couldn't jump or just step over small obstacles... also, I'm moving too slow for the worms.

But even with those things, the game is fun. The way you have to shake off a worm off of you is a nice touch

But spooky...

Oh, now I realized, the title of the game is PERFECT!

@kaisean-games I was trying to be spooky, but lacked the time needed to really create the art for that. I am glad that you liked the concept and I think with some tweaks it could be really good.

@tinykidtoo True. Idea has some potential. But don't worry, games like these require a lot of fine tuning. And LD time is, ... well... limited.

well, its really nice starting concept overall.
a jump would have been nice,
the only stuff i didnt get do i even get hit even when enemies saw me i was one shotting everyone,
no that i dislike being op

@avoca-do Thanks for playing. Yes they should attack you. The issue is that the knifing radius is too big and the player can rush and knife them before they can react. If they react they jump at you and latch onto your face. This requires the user to rapidly move the mouse to dislodge them.

the game was a bit short

Think about the guys with 32 bit computers although the game looks OKEI

what a sucky game, but for serious it had some good potential i think with some fine tuning. However it did bother me that everytime i sucked lifeforce i ended up looking up to the sky.

@dimesto52 Unfortunately I mismanaged my time and rushed the level making process in the last hour.

@ivaylo-dombi I have uploaded a new build that is 32 bit windows.

@aterlamia The looking at the sky thing is a bug, I don't know why it happens.

You Escaped!
Very weird, but interesting game. The concept of sucking life and paying with your own life fits the theme quite well. I like the tutorials very much. Its nice if you dont need to read through descriptions to learn tha basics of a game, but rather give the information in small dosis, right when you need them. The enemy behavoir feels really good and the movement is nicely coded. A little bit of polishing regarding the art and music wouldn't hurt. but for compo, its absolutely fine. Good job!

@awesomealliterationalliance I am glad that you liked the concept. I am going to adapt this into a full game with much more polish, as the concept seems sound, but marred by bugs. The tutorial is from previous LD game were I had walls of text for tutorials or hid the controls in the descriptions. Most people don't like that.
