Title640x512.png

Right after being awoken in the future, a worker from the Cryo-company ask you to go and get some food at the takeaway, cool huh? English has changed quite a bit in the last 1000 years, this software is the closest thing there is to make yourself more understandable, but you'll still have to think things through. Make use of the “notes” and write the correct form of the sentence asked.

We'll consider your "job" done if you can order all 3 dishes without making the chef go nuts with your poor English.

Keep in mind the notes from the tablet! At the left side you'll find a set of rules you must take into account when writing. At the right side a few exceptions of words that have changed over the years. Also with every order there will be more rules

'To make the game less punishing we've added a cheat-code you can use if you find yourself stuck on a level. The magic words to type are "I give up"'

Special thanks to Marc for the awesome design :)

Changelog

  • Added feedback improvements when the new rules appear to increase the chance of noticing them
  • Added multiple solutions for some of the levels
  • Added cheat code
  • Solved component positioning bugs
  • Solved bugs with different browsers
  • Fixed typo in one of the level sentences
  • Added tablet fading when playing cinematic
  • Removed hardcoded asset url's from the project

I absoloutly loved that game. Good to play after the first round and extremly funny. Liked the mixture of real-life material and your drawing.
Would love to play some more levels.
The only thing is, that it could get more complicated over time, the last two interactions were just too easy!

Po liked pep gapo!

I PODE IT!

Nice, very nice indeed. The look was amazing and the humour in the video clips was brilliant. The mix of video and hand drawn animations was lovely. Ended kinda early though, I was hoping it'll get even crazier with the rules.

Pretty much the only thing to complain about was that at first it wasn't clear that I was supposed to just go ahead and start typing. Maybe having a blinking cursor in the textbox would solve that. Also would have been nice to be able to edit the text I had already input. Like it was kinda annoying to have to type the whole sentence again just to change a starting syllable to correct one.

**Congratulationpen Ramsay, you have pode na gnizopa gapo.**

As an classicist this game really appealed to me. I loved the graphic style, superimposing the underwhelmingly un-photorealistic with a real life video.

Wow. We've had a lot of fun playing it and Ramsay is best!

This game is nuts, I absolutely loved the concept and the presentation. Mixture of real life image with graphics was a great and fun idea. My only comment is that I find the difficulty curve to be a bit steep (that, or I need some more sleep after the LD ;) ), but with some patience you end up clearing the challenges. Shakespeare would be proud!

Couldn't get it to work, currently using linux and chrome. Will try later today in windows

Edit: nevermind, I was a noob. Currently on windows and I see I need to type the words. I was previously screaming in the microphone. The sounds and video is really funny! Really cool idea

This was such a great concept, weirdly executed, which fit perfectly! I think there's maybe even some language learning potential here? Following these new rules made me really pay attention to the words and their relation to each other. Wonderful!

Fun game, at first it was unclear what I should be doing and took me a few tries to figure out the game. One doesn't really see real life performance in indie games nowadays, so this was great!

Really cute/innovative idea, and great use of the theme - it really did get tricky as the rules piled on. Great use of text to speech, also!

I really loved this one! I had a smile on my face the whole time I was playing. Definitely one of my favorite games I played thus far. The idea and the execution were great! It sort of reminds me of old school point and click adventure game's anti piracy measures, where you had to look up commands and codes in the manual to progress, except actually fun and engaging! A job well done!

I only really have two small complaints. One is the grammatical errors in the "survival tips" (perhaps a bit ironic?). I normally wouldn't mind too much, but one of the tips caused confusion (each word after "the" should be place at the end of the sentence) because of how it was written in game. The other is not being able to change where the caret is inside the text box. Meaning if I did a small typo, I had to backspace all the way back, and re-translate.

Other then those small issues, it was a blast to play. I had a lot of fun, and it's definitely a gem of LD40.

I really liked this game, thanks for letting me play on stream! At the core of it is a simple word substitution game, but it was presented and executed so well, and I genuinely had a blast playing. Thanks, and good job!

Wow, this game. It was so much fun trying to decipher a new language after not "being part of the civilization". The little outtake bits and seeing the live actor having a great time behind the mask really sold the quality of the game.

Well done!

Really innovate and clever. The weird graphic/video mashup is just the kinda creativity I like to see in LD. I enjoyed the humor and the crude back-talk a lot.

My only complaint is that you can't edit your sentence in-place after you mess up (have to start over).

P.S: There's also a typo in the rule for 'the': it should be 'is placed' not 'it's placed'. Seems silly, but for a game about correctly following new grammar rules, it's kinda ironic.

Woa, ultra fan. Awesome animation system and very clever game. I didn't see the theme tho (maybe 'the more rules the hardest'?). As Spanish AND Catalan of the 90s ultra FAN of the petrifax. Very good job!

Really awesome game. Gave you 5's for everything. It would have been nice to be able to edit my sentence without deleting the whole thing. Other than that, the only thing I could say for how to improve is just to add more.

Absolutely perfect!! Great art direction, the acting and the animation fit together really nicely and the subtle sfx made it even better.

Cool game concept with interesting but not too hard puzzles, I agree with @jasperarmstrong on editing your sentence though.

The text to speech of the alien language was awesome too, may I ask what you used to create the audio?

In conclusion: this is the jam winner for me :)

Thanks for the feedback @somethinboutgames and @jasperarmstrong! To create the audio we used simple plain Google Translate. The edition of the sentence and some more videos are in the works! :)

Im sure Im not alone being wary of a game about translating language but this was really fun. I especially love the art style that you put together. Reminds me of those ads I see for the World of Gumball. That kids show where they overlay animation on real world footage. I could very easily see this being expanded as either a kids educational game, or maybe just a humorous take on being a cryogenically frozen person trying to make it in the future. Idiocracy style maybe. Nice work! I think you should build this out and see where it goes.
