My Little Planet by Maxime Hanot

My Little Planet is our entry for Ludum Dare #44. We were 2 working during the 72 hours (Elie Paquiet & Maxime Hanot).

My Little Planet is an immersive third person game where you're controlling a tank on a little planet. We are not really inspired by game design so we decided to create a game from the idea that inspired us the most, and that would allow us to improve our skills.

Control the tank and destroy all the turrets without taking too much damages !

Was lagging a bit for me, although I liked all the particle effects you've added. A solid entry!

Graphics, assets, and models look really polished and great! Gameplay might get a bit stale if extended for a long period of time, next time maybe add variation somehow? Great game overall.

Liked the graphics and models. A little variation of turrets and planets would make the game even better.

A really good game, for me the controls felt solid (maybe because my game used I similar controlscheme with the mouse so I've gotten used to it over houres of game dev :smirk: ) It looked good and felt like it had had a great bit of polish. It had a good amount of "juice". It was quick enough that you could easily pop back in and try to break you record. My only complain is that your bullets were slower than you when you moved forward. So sometimes I fired on a turret directly ahead and then had to "wait" for 0.5 seconds until my bullet got to it and destroyed it. Some sort of logic for how the turrets fired would've also been great. Maybe two sides of blue and red turrets trying to destroy each other? Just more destructive juciness. Great entry, you should be proud!

I liked the explosion effect a lot but it lagged a little on my laptop! Nice game! :)

The intro song was hilarious, the gameplay was fun and functional, if a little simplistic. Didn't really get how it followed the theme though. Graphics were impressive, a little laggy on my computer but it's a laptop so *shrugs*

Really cool game, my only issue is the mouse would leave the game window while I was trying to aim (probably only an issue if you have multiple monitors). I liked it a lot overall, it gets chaotic (in a good way) seeing all the bullets flying around ahead of you.

Mechanics / graphics were great! If there was some sort of set level design (different enemies, boss, obstacles), I can see this being a legit game. Good job!

@akros Thank you ! Yes we abused a bit on the number of actives particles effects ^^

@lemur Thanks a lot ! Our folios are linked in description

@elmos-minion Thank you very much ! Yes as we said, we were not really inspired by game design mechanics, we probably should add some mechanics or powerups to notjust turn arround the planet

Thank you @attala ! Yes we thought about it but we decided to stay with these models for now cause of time ^^ maybe an update in the future

@logflames Thanks a lot, much appreciated ! Thanks also for this feedback, I didn't notice it during my last playtest. At first the turrets were targeting the player but it was really really really hard ^^' we decided to make it random for more ease

@toni-re Thank you ! Yes I said it previously, We abused a bit on particles effects, we worked on powerful pc, we didn't thought about laptop gamers, we realized it after realising and firsts feedback, sorry for that ^^'

@nayaki-anandan ahah  Thank you ! Yes game design is a strange world where we are a bit lost ^^ We tried a follow the theme with 2 " powers " ( shield & bomb ) activables with 20 of your lifepoints, it can be risky but in some really difficult posistions it can save you. Sorry for having burned a bit your laptop ^^'

@matthew-mcclure Thanks a lot, we saw a similar problem and other peoples too, we're trying to fix it ^^

@afroant Thanks a lot ! much appreciated ! ahah don't really had the time to implements some level design but it is a great idea, why not reworking on it in the future ^^

@sholyu Merci beaucoup ! On a en effet rencontré le même problème et pas mal de monde nous l'as dit aussi, on essaie de regler le probleme au plus vite, je comprends que ca peut devenir très genant a force, merci du retour !

Hoi! First of all, really nice models on the tanks! Mechanics worked very well and the game was really satisfying. I don't know if there was an end goal, but that doesn't really matter. Really nice game I think!

I love the graphics and music. The spherical world made for some really interesting combat, so I could hold back and spam bullets over the horizon to destory the turrets. I think a cool feature would be a way to recover health by picking up a limited number of health packs. It would be cool to use your power ups to survive and have to scramble to find more health to recover for the next fight.

It feels very polished, graphics, ambient sound effects (I love the subtle mechanical sounds), music, particles they all add well together. It's a novel idea with the tiny planet, I think it works very well. Of course gameplay is limited with just one enemy type, but hey what can you expect with the limited time. I'm impressed that the two of you managed to do all this.

I really like the concept of this, and the graphics are pretty nice!
It's a bit laggy for me, so it could maybe be optimized more, but that's not a complaint.
What I find really annoying is, that the cursor isn't really "grabbed" for me, instead it's just not visible when it's in the area of the window (I played it in wondowed mode)
That means moving it too much causes the input to not be recognized by the game

@gludo Thanks !

@raffe Thank you, no there is no goal, only beat your best score :p

@masterkrepta Thanks a lot! We add planed to add a bonus generator, but haven't enough time.

Very well put together game and a lot of fun playing it, probs to that. Really challenging game, it becomes a real bullet hell after a minute, could only get 92 sec and 89 kills.

A small problem is that the mouse is not locked to the screen, but you're not gonna point the barrel behind you in a direction you can't see so it's not to big of a deal, but it would have been a easy problem to fix.

Super cool! The graphics are amazing, lots of juice. The gameplay is fun, you just rampage forward destroying everything on your way, FUN! I just wish to have some feedback when I take damage. Overall a great entry!

Well done. I really like the effects, all the particle systems and the good ol' post processing behavior. Looks stunning and the game is a lot of fun.

That was fun!! :D
Tanks looked great! also, good instructions compared to other games that just start and let you figure out the 92650823765983475634897 controls on the go haha. (not shaming those, you know how it is with gamejams, haha)

This is an impressive entry! The graphics are top notch (I recognize that shield effect haha). The music is great and really sets the mood. It controls and plays well and also incorporates the theme. A visual indicator when you get hit would be good. Also after you die you can still rack up kills before the round ends. Excellent job on this! Very polished!

@douglima Thank you very much ! we love explosion ^^ Yes I understand, we thought about add damage feedback a bit lately. We are thinking to add it in a future update, probably after the end of rating period

@j0ye @gerardb , Thanks a lot, much appreciated !

@angiemon ahah x) Thank you ! We thought a bit about user experience, it's always better if your player know what to do and how ^^

@noobexception @balance686 , Thank you very much ! Few peoples told us there is no feedback for damages, we'll probably update it after the rating time ! For kills after player's death, we saw it before publishing but we decided to let it in the game cause we thought it was a funny way to increase a last time your score during two little crazy seconds ^^'

Trust me it is a really funny coincidence with brackeys 's last video, I made this effect during the Saturday/Sunday night, Brackeys realeased his tutorial on Sunday evening x) As soon as we saw it we laughed and we sent the game link to Brackey's immiedatly ^^

Loved the music. The tanks and turrets are really well done. I found it a bit hard to aim, but that's probably just me. Awesome entry!
