Hours of the Day by squirmonkey

[raw]
made by squirmonkey for LD 43 (COMPO)

Take over the life of an aspiring musician as they navigate the challenges of trying to lead a fulfilling life, while keeping everyone they know happy.

Click on the emails on your phone to see the events your friends and family have invited you to. By adding these events to the calendar, you can boost your relationships, by ignoring them, you let your relationships deteriorate. There's not enough hours in a day to do everything, so some sacrifices will have to be made. What will you choose to preserve, and what will you let slide? How long can you keep it all together?

Everybody wants something different, so make sure to keep your eye on the bars at the bottom of the screen. If even one of them is empty, it's game over!

Edit: Released a bugfix to the "Chat with Bex" event so it schedules properly. Released a fix to the "Antonio Party" event so that the text renders properly.

You really nailed this concept. The overall polish is impressive for the time given. I wasn't able to play for long, but it was very interesting!

This game is too real! Very clean and polished. There was a lot of downtime and it seems like you would have to play for a long while in order to be in danger of losing, unless the time between days shortens or email frequency increases over time (I'm not sure if it already does this).

@sky-coding The email frequency does increase over time, I tried to keep it slow at the beginning though so you'd have time to read the emails. Thanks for playing!

The tutorial was fantastic, and I enjoyed managing each of the aspects. My first game, my employment was very low, so I just decided to not come to work anymore. I was fired by the 10th day. I probably deserved that, but things got dark very fast after that. Great job!

@arkinrev Yeah... it can get kinda dark if you don't keep up with things. Thanks for playing!

Probably one of the more creative interpretations of the sacrifice theme I've seen...and may hit a little close to home. Great idea!

Pretty fun. I do wish it started out at a faster pace, but quite a neat idea, and very well executed. The tutorial was top notch. Well done!

Great idea! I'm so funny when my "Employment" reached zero.

You executed this idea really well. That being said I personally wish this game operated on a system closer to a game like FTL where you pause then make the desision or at least just put the control of swapping days in my hands. Most of the time playing this it feels like I am sitting there waiting for the last 15 seconds to pass so I can get to the next day.

So real sacrificing of the time. Most often the victim is a passion:/ Nice game.

This is pretty cool, love what you did with the theme. I love the losing messages based on which bar you let go down. Really cute and well done in general.

Well this is the game about my life. Well done!

Things that might be improved if you'll decide to continue with the game: ability to drag and drop items (or some of them) in the calendar not just cancelling them.

Have my respect for being compo!
