I find myself struggling on both levels when there is a one minute timer : I'm really running out of space to avoid walking on dirty stuff, and the game jumps from tranquil to nearly impossible. Is there something after the timers ? I think the difficulty is too hard there (or am I too bad ?).
I wonder, can the growing stuff keep you from achieving your objective ? One of those grew just behind me as I walked a corridor leading to what I assume was the next part of the level.
There is one detail that made me laugh a lot and is when I planted the bomb I was expecting a BOOOOOM! So I ran quite far and suddenly I heard "pup", I don't know why but this made me laugh a lot.
Seriosly good job man!
But I enjoyed killing the crab-like thingies >:D
@axavian it's a bit too tough maybe, I can beat the first stage maybe 1/3rd of the times :) the second stage is actually much easier!
10/10 would play again.
Really great job
"No, you alien thingies go awwwaaaaaayyy"
What I loved:
- Aesthetics - design and theme were consistent throughout
- Controls felt great to use
- Felt like it was almost ready to be shipped save for a few things!
Some suggestions:
- Maybe I missed it, but it would be great to have some explanation for the growing poison-bubbles-slime thingies. (Or was it that the parts of the aliens grew into those things? It wasn't really clear)
- It felt like some variation would be great in terms of gameplay (different weapons/enemies, some twist on the core game)
Great work!
The levels are nearly identical, I would have liked to see some variety in the second level. Running away from more aggressive biomass (or a massive horde of aliens) would have been a nice set piece. Some way to fight the biomass would open up avenues for advanced level design and resource management.
The ending of the first level is more difficult due to the smaller arena. Switching the levels around would have been an easy, last minute fix to avoid frustration.
Never heard of FTE QuakeWorld, seems pretty well suited for shooters... No surprises there! The Linux version worked fine, except that the menu input broke in fullscreen mode.
Solid work.

@huvaakoodia FTEQW is an enhanced quake 1 engine, so it indeed is easy to make shooters... if they're first person shooters, like quake. most things go out of the window when you make anything different, but it's still very comfortable for me to work with even if I have to reinvent the wheel occasionally
Also, it was impossible sometimes to walk when those things start to grow! And I couldn't find the key to place the explosive. Just jumping and hoping that it will place automatically was my way to do it :D
