Wanyudo Island by PurpledArtFrog

[raw]
made by PurpledArtFrog for LD 43 (COMPO)

BUG WEB GL: Not showing the entire screen :smirk: BUG: Don't click the gold multiple times - it will lock down the pressure really low and it would cause the game to not really function according the grand plan ;) and if you haven't done enough sacrifices will never be able to find the radio.

My first real game project - and indeed my first jam submission.

Tools used: Unity, Photoshop, Bosca Ceoil, OneNote, Wacom Intous Medium, Logitech ERGO Mx, Patience and curiosity.

The story short Once upon a time there was a village on the small island of Wanyudo… how long will that last…

Menu screen Menu small.png

You need to sacrifice from your village or surroundings to ensure your village finds a way out BEFORE THE DEMON AWAKES.

There are three Easter eggs - two ressource and one "tech".

Ingame screen Ingame small.png

Quirky uploads... hope they go through

Update: Added Linux, OSX and Itch.IO. Update2: Corrected description of upload (binary -> windows).

Was in doubt with regard to fonts - As far as I could tell standard fonts should be ok in the rules (fingers crossed).

@nightmaresdev @duo-developers thank you the both of you - I enjoyed making it - again seeing that this is my first project and jam (besides from I guess 4-5 mini games where I prototyped to learn Game Dev'ing) - I'am actually pleased with the result - and as of now I did not discover any bugs bugs..... for now ;)

Thank you for sharing your game with me. I played it on my stream tonight at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames

I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream.

@saoi-games Thank you :) Thanks for the constructive criticism - You ran into a lot of things I actually never considered; so learned a lot.

Congrats on completing your first jam! Hopefully it won't be your last.

I found three instances of gold and there were some cows heading to the volcano. I was a bit confused. I'd recommend putting the instructions in the game play instead of on the title screen. A lot of people will either not see it or forget what it says (like me).

Anyway, great job and hope to see you next time!

Fun game! It took me a while to get it but it's fun. It would be nice to have instructions inside the game... I keep forgetting things and i forgot a lot of the stuff i read on title screen. I did the same btw 🤣 than I realised it wasn't the best of my ideas lol.
Congrats on your first jam!

@kawaiineko totally agree with you - and actually thought about the level of information when doing the game, but still failed to deliver substantial advice for the player... actually a hard discipline and became very obvious when I saw it streamed

Pretty much hard to grasp at the first tries, and art style is a bit... rough? Still, for a first game I find it very nice and with some improvements it would be super fun :)

Hey, not sure if it's an issue or I'm missing something, but I can't seem to start the WebGL version - I'm stuck on the splash screen! (it would be good to have that online somewhere - itch.io or github maybe?)
🎤 PurpledArtFrog
07. Dec 2018 · 07:02 UTC
Hey @mrspeaker I saw someone else play it as WebGL I think, but actually didn't think it would work - I'll try to see if I can fix it (but at work right now) :smirk:

Fun game though I had to use my first play through to learn what was going on. A small ti would be to increase the size of the people as I had a hard time clicking on them and therefor didn't realised you could sacrifice them until I almost died on my third try. Great game for your first game.

Well done on making something :) I am confused what to do! I found a gold nugget, and clicked it many times to get negative pressure. Couldn't seem to speed up time even though it looks like it should be the + button.
🎤 PurpledArtFrog
20. Dec 2018 · 09:30 UTC
@radical-dog
yeah - not really suppose to go to negative pressure  - actually it's just about sacrificing cows, huts and people to allow the time to progress 'til 10:00 - at that point the raft should be done - other than that - once you have sacrificed at least three things you're able to find a radio in the map
thanks for playing though
Radical Dog
20. Dec 2018 · 10:36 UTC
But how do you sacrifice? Clicking on them didn't work, dragging them didn't work...
🎤 PurpledArtFrog
21. Dec 2018 · 07:11 UTC
Click should work @radical-dog - did you use WebGL? It has caused me some issues, but the windows one should definately work
