Little Space by KevTukk

Little Space is a building-strategy-action-game and my first game for Ludum Dare.
Tools used:
Construct 2
sfxr
Aseprite
Ableton Live
Made in 48 hours during Ludum Dare #38
UPDATE
If you have trouble with the mouse controls (unable to scroll down, unable to build rooms on one side), try the downloadable version. Just download the zip-file and start "nw.exe".
UPDATE 2
Apparently the bug mentioned above only happens on Windows 10 and somehow I am unable to fix it right now. I will try, but I can't make promises.

I wasn't able to get very far, I don't think I left myself enough resources to intercept the asteroids, but the game is fun and it seems pretty deep for having made it in 48 hours, so props to you, you must have not slept!
The game is cool, though I don't know why my people never go to sleep...
I had some trouble not being able to scroll the screen back down again, and didn't get very far though. But the core gameplay is fun and it does really well at creating a 'believable' and living base with very small means.
Anyway, if you ever have time, please do more work on the game, polish it up and give it the juice it needs. Would love to see it! Good Luck :)!
@neontropics: Hm, weird scrolling issue. Usually the scrolling is activated by moving the mouse to the bottom-edge or the top-edge. But I will look into it.
@wheerd: Read above about the scrolling, but you're right, I should have given the player keyboard controls for the scrolling. And a little GUI-element that tells the player why they can't build a new room should have been a no-brainer.
@automatonvx: Building out of line does not (or should not) impair anything. The only thing that matters to these guys are the ladders. As long as there is a ladder on their story, they can go anywhere they want because I made really stupid events.
@tyranosaw: Yes, I agree on the tutorial, but in the time I had I did not come up with a better idea.
I would love to work on this game more, but I think I would want to start completely from scratch (because of some core-elements that don't work the way I want them to). And I don't know if I have the time for that.
My first colonies were 3 buildings wide but WOWZERS I could not stand up to the asteroids. Panning the camera up and down to scan for them was a little rough, and I wasn't sure what determined when I would click whether a blue thing would launch.
But I did stop a bunch of them eventually, and when I built my colony straight up in one column I was able to get a solid stream of income and win. I was mixing trying to stop asteroid with simply ignoring them and out-building the destruction.
So a bit of clunk around asteroid fighting but otherwise good look and feel! Nice entry.
Good job on your game, congrats on the compo!
I really was looking forward to playing, but had problems with the mouse. When selecting a canteen it would be too far left of the cursor and I couldn't place it.
If I scrolled up I could never scroll back down again...
Will try again...
I had some suggestions in the video, but they boiled down to, make the interface a little more intuitive. Make the intercept cost scrap, and make it easier to use where I don't need to press the button each time. Great job on a compo game.
And thanks for the crticism, you're absolutly right about the interface and the interception. The interception element and the asteroids were actually a last minute inclusion and I will definitely try to improve on that in the case I make a post-ludum-dare version.
Good work, keep going!
The tutorial honestly was a bit TL;DR, so in the end I tried learning through playing, which didn't go so bad. Probably a lighter tutorial or tips system would feel easier for the player.
that could be easily built on with more stuff. The negative things are small and already mentioned.
But the fatal flaw cannot be ignored - the unreadable g that looks like 0 in the tutorial font. /s
Well done, thanks for sharing!
One thing that confused me at first was to understand how i actually get new works or if i get them (there was no game over after an asteroid killed them^^), Also as others have said the intercept mechanic was a bit hard to use, if you keep working on it maybe think of another way to trigger it than hitting the button? maybe some building which automatically takes care of some asteroids if a person is in there? :)
I really like the simplistic artwork as well as the sounds, you did a really great job :)
