The Shinobi Trial by Foxtacy
The Shinobi Trial a little runner i made for LD35
You are a shinobi in trainning, and you must master the 3 forms Blade, Leaf, and Rock, to get through the trials.
Watch out for ONIs.
Please rate and provide helpful feedback! I want to keep working on this in the future and i will take notes on every feedback!
Thank you very much!
PS Linux and Mac users, i'm sorry i couldn't work on that target platforms, but, in order to play, download the source code and compile it on your target (please! seriously!)
All the best, have fun! :)

took me way to long to figure out how to play and realize there was even a how to play section. neat game! i love the ninja!
V = Violence = Blade
B = Boulder = Rock
N = Neither = Leaf
(no, i'm kidding, i just made those up :D)
Dodged 21 Oni and destroyed 25 blocks :)
with more variation on the gameplay this could be a realy great game.
Thanks guys! thank you very much :D
Not a big fan of install procedure ;)
You're a genious! :D
Good graphics music, and animations too. Everything fit together really nicely :)
A running timer in-game to see how long you've lasted so far, would be really cool. Although then I might never be able to stop playing :P
Took me a while to realize I have to hold the key to stay shape shifted. Some (better) difficulty progression would help a lot. Other than that, it's solid base worth some further work.
Would it help if i did "what breaks what" the same colors?
Here are some random thoughts on your game. Hope it can help your on your future development of the game.
Good:
- The music and sound are super fantastic. And not only is music fantastic, it also fits the game very well.
- The graphics and animations are good, but not super great.
Bad:
- I was not able to see that the 3 shapes are a Blade, a Leaf, and a Rock, if you had not told me. And I need a reason why the various symbols breaks through the various walls.
- It is sometimes hard to know if I is suppose to jump over, or just run underneath the monster.
Ideas:
- Give the game a story. The story can give player a reason to play the game, and explanation why the ninja needs to run?
- Consider to make some pictures for the animation, which makes the transition from ninja to symbol more fluid. I believe one ore two pictures is enough.
- As the game is is now, at least 50% of the screen is blue sky. I would prefer that the button area with ninja, instead takes up 60-70% of the screen, and you remove the blue sky part, but still keep the top part with the clouds.
- Make many more houses and trees, to make the background more interesting to look at.
- You have made some really great music, so why not try to incorporate it into the gameplay. E.g. the ninja has to punch the walls on a specific drum bit.

I thought about a Rock Paper Scissor logic. That didn't work quite well, i guess matching colors logic would have done it better...

Well that was the initial plan, i just had to cut those out to get the core mechanics working ^_^.

You're absolutely right about this, maybe i'll make the sprites bigger on the next version ^^

AS you see, art is my weakness

Thanks, i guess music is my strenght, along with programming.
Hey, keep in touch, i'd love to have your engagement on the next versions ^_^
The overall style of the game is really nice, in both audio and graphics (though you're not being judged in both). I really liked the ninja's animation! :)
There's challenge but I feel that you should give the player that feeling of "progression" in-game, as the game starts to get a bit repetitive after some time.
I don't know how good is everything I'm telling ya, but I hope you DO keep working on the game! As it does have potential.
The game really felt like "Rock, Paper, Scissors" meets "Canabalt" :P
P.s.: Bom trampo! Ficou bem bacana, continue! ;)
