Please Read the Information on This Page for a Better Explanation of the Game to Avoid Confusion

This page describes what all the controls do, what the hats are for, and some helpful hints to make the game easier (like to run away while attacking things so you hit them but they can't hit you).

STORY:

You are a guy. You have a sword. You have enemies. Who needs a good story? Just kill everything!

DESCRIPTION:

Run around and kill things with a sword and reach the end of each area. Pretty Simple, but you have an energy resource. Everything you do, running, attacking, rolling, or whatever, costs energy. This energy is very easy to get back by toggling on recharge mode. In recharge mode, you slowly gain energy, however, you cannot attack and have a slow movement speed so try not to run out of energy in the middle of a fight!

CONTROLS:

KEYBOARD CONTROLS:

Moving - WASD

Attack - Left Mouse

Roll - Right mouse

Recharge Mode - Spacebar

XBOX CONTROLLER CONTROLS:

Moving - Left Stick

Attack - A

Roll - B

Recharge Mode - X

You can change the colour scheme of the game whenever by simply pressing 'C' on a keyboard or Y on a controller.

Hats!

There are collectible hats in the game which can be purchased with in-game currency which you get from killing things.

HATS AND THEIR ABILITIES:

Toque - Faster energy regeneration.

Baseball Cap - No longer slowed in regeneration mode.

Cowboy Hat - Do more damage.

Warrior Helmet - Take less damage.

Chrono Hat - Enemies move slower and you regenerate energy a bit faster.

Unfortunately, I was not able to add microtransactions to buy hats... I know you all would have loved it and spent half your life savings only to lose them 3 seconds later ;)

Fast Mode!

Just in case the game wasn't hard enough for you, you have the option to play the game at 2x the speed!

Quick GIF of Gameplay!

HINTS!

-Run away from enemies while attacking them to avoid them hitting you.

-Don't run straight into bullets, they hurt

-When you get a message to kill the drone, kill the one with the antenna. That one will stop enemies from spawning and allow you to go through the tunnel

Changes/Bug Fixes

-Fixed the message about changing the colour. (It didn't show up before)

-Fixed bug where buying health from non-shop could heal over max amount.

One of the hidden gems that I have found so far! The movement controls are nice and responsive making the rolls feel satisfying. The graphics and sound mesh very well together and make for quite a calming experience. The only thing is that I found it difficult to not get hit when attacking enemies but that may just be me being bad :). Good job!

This is so incredible! Great art style and tight controls!
Missing a "being hit" feedback, however.

Really, really good, incredibly consistent art and feel, satisfying gameplay and you have a great little game here ! As has been said before, it's missing a player damage signal.

Very nice artstyle! When you take damage it isn't very obvious as noted. Finding it a real challenge to complete as the hitbox of your weapon is really small and enemies move quite fast and it is really difficult to avoid their attacks (although possible I think - just try to move away while slashing). All in all a great entry!

Very nice action game. Fun, kind-of-fluid, and very well-balanced.
The graphics are not bad at all.
I didn't understand the use of the equipment tho.
I think that the "roll" button doesn't dodge, it just makes you faster, which I find counter intuitive (In that case it should have been called a "dash" instead of a roll)
With some good old epic music, it would have been my favorite entry so far in this Jam.

I do like the name, if you can't tell!
I was expecting more gore though.

It's tough attacking and not getting hit at the same time as the weapon swing hitbox is tiny. The character doesn't turn either, which make attacking hostiles to your right a swing and a miss.

The presentation didn't jell with me too well. Tiny pixel people rendered in three colors (+ alpha, you cheat!) and the audio similarly sparse. It is a stylistic choice of course and you pulled it off nicely.

Ok entry. A bit basic in places.

Great game overall, it did lack a sense of progression for me personally. I loved the visuals and the audio and the gameplay was pretty good too. You should definitely focus on adding some more variance by adding say, powerups. I'd love to see this in procedurally generated levels, the game already feels like a rogue-like, so why not go all the way with it (more enemies, bosses and powerups would also help achieve that)! Great work, hope to see you next Ludum Dare!

A great game !
The base pace is maybe a little bit slow, but the game is really well polished and totally working on its own.

Good job :)

Love it! i'm a bit of a sucker for minimal pixel art style and this was a really nicely done version. The gameplay was also more fun than i thought it would be, the charge mechanic works really well to make it more interesting. The fast mode is a really nice edition too, Now I think basically all games should have a fast mode. Like street fighter 2 hyper, more speed == more fun. Bonus points for including controller support :) Also liked the music.
