The Temple of Falala by JCMonkey

For some reason i thought 3 miniboss fights and one main boss fight was a thing to be done in 48hrs. So yeah i overscoped the crap out of this game.
So instead of awesome boss fights i put in regular totem mobs to take its place so i could finish the game.
This is a complete game, for 48hrs, so enjoy.

Some dead bodies hurt me, others didn't... I couldn't see myself on the map, and the areas weren't distinct enough for me to tell where I was... Enemies were a chore to take out... I came across some attack and health spots that didn't seem to do anything... it just felt unpolished.
I get that most of the issues I have are likely due to time constraints, and I'm sure you know about them but still.
I was especially impressed with the zoomed out map view, though I didn't see any "YOU ARE HERE!" indicator, which would have been useful.
The sprites were all wonderful to look at.
Now the criticism part.
This game definitely needed more enemy diversity. The spinning blade totems made interesting enemies for the first couple of rooms, but quickly became frustrating. That combined with the high enemy HP made me stop playing instead of walking back to the sacrifice totem.
As others have noted, the combination of the hitboxes on the spinning blades and the character is causing strange results. I repeatedly took damage despite not being visibly touched by the blades.
I wish that the floor traps had a different sprite or something, because the first 10 or so times I stepped on one, I thought it was a bug that was making me take random damage.
Overall, I liked the atmosphere, the art, the music, which is simple but effective in setting the mood of the game. The combat can get kind of tedious quickly, as you always see the same type of enemy just with more hitpoints.
And another thing, the console keeps spitting this error:
ERROR: Node not found: enemytotem
At: scene/main/node.cpp:1524
I don't know how it affects the game though.
Anyway... it's quite monotonous. Enemies with spinning blades get old fast, and when I walk into a room with several dozen of them, that's when I decide I'm really not all that invested in seeing a game to the end.
