Break the Internet by Eric Miller

[raw]
made by Eric Miller for LD 43 (COMPO)

Break the Internet is a Google Chrome extension that turns the entire internet into your playground as you help a lost panda get home. You need to discover the identity of the panda, where it lives, and navigate to the associated web page before the internet becomes entirely unusable.

Be careful! Each time you click a link, perform a search, or enter a URL, you permanently sacrifice some letters or words, and they will disappear from any future pages you visit. Other than that, the internet is at your disposal!

Install Instructions

This Chrome extension has not yet been officially blessed by Google, so to install and play this extension:

Windows

  1. Download extension.zip below and unzip it on your computer somewhere
  2. Copy chrome://extensions/ and paste it into the address bar (or go to Menu >> More Tools >> Extensions)
  3. In the top right of the page, activate the "Developer Mode" slider
  4. Click "Load unpacked" and select the extension folder you got from the zip file.

Linux / Mac

  1. Download extension.crx below
  2. Copy chrome://extensions/ and paste it into the address bar (or go to Menu >> More Tools >> Extensions)
  3. In the top right of the page, activate the "Developer Mode" slider
  4. Drag "extension.crx" from the downloads bar on the bottom of the screen onto the main area of the Extensions page

Uninstalling

At any time, you can uninstall the extension by right clicking its "T" icon next to the address bar, removing the extension, then refreshing the page.

Uhhhh, lil problem.

I like the idea, but google has disabled it for "security reasons".

@darylsteak Thanks for pointing that out, it turns out that Chrome's default security settings are different on Windows than on Mac/Linux. I have updated the instructions to tell Windows users to load it as an unpacked extension rather than a packed .crx file. Let me know if that works for you.

This is a really innovative and great game. I spent much time on this than i would like to admit. Found 1 bug tho, seems like it doesnt filter twitter integrations (Maybe iframes). Otherwise great game. I love it.

Extremely creative idea! I laughed so hard when everything turned into a jumbled mess. Great use of the theme. :)
