Good job.
Edit: Just went back and beat the planet. As I leave the page I noticed in your gif that you could throw the asteroids, and that made the fight a lot more engaging; and easier.
Anyway, nice job! :smile:
If you have time, please check out my game too ^_^ https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/no-minor-task-party-of-a-lifetime
I liked everything in the game: The throwing mechanic, the boss's AI, the beautiful graphics and animation, the way it all went together... Top notch.
Only suggestions would be to add an HP bar to the Earth, and adding music.
UI could really use some other kind of indication of player's health, though - I didn't notice that it was signalized by expression up until my 4th playthrough.
That said, it's really fun overall.
Cheers!
The asteroids are super cute ^^
Too bad there are no sounds :/ Why you don't use Bfxr to do some 8-bit sounds ?
Maybe I'd have liked much an escalation of levels and not playing from start against the big boss (I died a few times before winning), but the game is absolutely perfect!
Great work!
The graphics are great, love it ! :thumbsup:
Still a very strong entry however!
If you have the chance, check out my little puzzle platformer.

Gameplay is pretty fun, I liked it. The only thing - it feels like asteroid field is too dense. I think with less asteroids on field and more space for maneuring it could be more fast-paced and fun. Now the most time you spending trying not to hit random asteroids on field.
I also would've preferred to see my own health.
It's quite interesting how simple the graphics looks, but how many details you were able to add... I could notice the bg parallax, particle effects on explosions, the trail... Not to mention how much the white outline helped make everything standout!
And those faces... They are great! Specially how they move from the center of entities, selling the sense of velocity! Not to mention the player's hidden health bar! I did really dig your graphics! :smile:
The game is really fun! If only the camera moved slightly ahead, revealing where you are going... As it is, running away from the boss is quite hard (as asteroids may suddenly appear in front of you).
What I like:
- Graphics are cute
- The idea is cool
- *It is really cute*
- I love the details like when you hit the asteroid onto something, you have a great satisfaction on impact.
What I don't like:
- The movement seems to have an excessive acceleration, making it very hard to keep the arrow buttons pressed to move the planet
I hope you had some fun making it. It is really great.
When I finally beat the big planet I was left with the desire for more exploration and battles with my cute little planet. Hope you expand this into something more complete.
Absolutely love the art direction. Real pity there's no sound. I can almost hear it in my head! c:
My only criticism would be that the game says game over also when I win, which is confusing. The acceleration and speed is a bit of a double-edged sword: on the one hand it's great for getting away in the last moment when the big planet approaches, but on the other hand it can be difficult not to hit stuff. Not sure!
I didn't actually notice it at first, so I was a bit confused, but when I realised that the player planet's life was shown by the facial expressions, I found it really neat! Doesn't tell you exactly how many more hits you can take, but tells you when to start playing it safe, and makes the screen a little cleaner with less HUD. Very nice. c:
Really good job!
Note: there's a bug when the game is over and you play again, as the boss's life meter doesn't fill up again.
But what would be the end boss? A black hole because of his huge gravitation? :o
Really great entry with good mechanics! But I suck at the slingshot... :smile:
@giri Thanks!
@those-30-ninjas Thank you very much! Really glad you liked the art and faces. I thought about adding screen wrapping but it was a bit too difficult to implement in the short amount of time I had left. Would definitely be something to think about if I continue work on the game.
@fangzhangmnm Aww thank you so much for saying so!
@valicitor Thank you very much! Yeah, I really should've added a health bar but I ran out of time... Put too much time in less important details like the face, silly me...
@yukonw Thanks a lot! Yeah, some more interesting behavior would be nice but I have little experience with enemy AI so this is all I could do within the time I had.
@badscotsman Thank you very much for the nice words!
@jane-pr Thank you! I'm definitely thinking about turning it into a full game some day.
@th-alien Thanks! I made it a bit difficult so it takes some time and exercise to beat the otherwise really short game.
@redpanda Thank you very much! Really glad you liked the pixel art. You should give it another try!
@itzhak-w Thanks! Yeah, should've really added one...
@izunah Thanks a lot! Really happy you like it. I tried it and you're right, about that minor bug. Thanks for reporting! Nice to hear you game back and were able to beat the game, congrats!
@la-mecanique-du-plastique Thank you!
@xavier-indie-gamedev Thank you so much! I had a lot of different ideas while making the game. I thought of having multiple enemies but I had some trouble with writing simple but effective AI so in the end I decided to make the whole game a boss battle. I also ran out of time for sound... I will definitely check out your game.
@appix Thank you! Glad you think it's special. Hope you'll give it another try.
@lookslikesomething Thanks! Please try again.
@la-mecanique-du-plastique Thanks a lot! I really wish I could've added sound but I ran out of time... Glad you enjoyed it anyway.
@glimaleite Thanks! Really glad you like the mechanic, I'm quite proud of coming up with it myself. I Always go for the Jam so I have some extra time.
@nimbus Thank you so much for the nice comment! So glad you liked all of it. Your suggestions are also the main things I would've liked to be included.
@kr4ft3r Thank you! The AI is really simple but glad you like it anyway. That is definitely a good tip.
@sapoi Thanks a lot!
@docgeraud Thanks! It's all about adding faces.
@samlo Thank you very much! You're definitely right about the health, for most people that's the main thing that's missing.
@silkworm-sweatshop Thank you very much!
@chloravirgo Thanks! Happy to hear you liked all of it.
@takusan Thank you! Nice to hear you liked the mechanic, I'm quite happy about how it turned out too. And yeah, a health bar would've been nice.
@hekst Thank you! I wanted to keep the background simple but still cool so I worked with 3 layers of stars to add some depth. Glad someone noticed/liked it.
@chaseplays Thank you very much for the extensive feedback! The boss is always there, he's just higher up on the map so before you start the battle you can try out the controls a bit. So nice to hear you think my game has some of the nicest visuals! That really means a lot! I wouldn've loved to add audio but sadly I ran out of time...
@harusame Thank you very much! Really glad you liked everything. I used Bfxr for my previous games but for this game I just ran out of time...
@matita Thanks a lot of the nice comment! At first I wanted to make multiple enemies but I was having some trouble with AI so in the end I chose for the game to be a boss battle.
@yami-no-tenshi-8 Thank you very much! Glad you liked the way the Earth health was shown, I would've added a health bar if I didn't run out of time. Yes, I totally went for no sound because of that! Haha, seriously though I just ran out of time for that too...
@articulated9 Thank you! Yes, I really wish I could've added sound. Some more variety in attacks would've been cool too.
@puppetmaster Thanks a lot!
@akirassasin Thanks! Oh yeah, seeing your grabbing range would've been nice.
@sun-wukong Thank you very much. Glad you were able to find my game back. Someone else commented that it would help if you moved a bit slower so it's easier to avoid asteroids.
@filogc Thanks a lot!
@bart-huylebroeck Thank you! Glad you loved most of it.
@gfm Thank so much! Really happy to see someone appreciating all the tiny details in the graphics! You're totally right about the camera.
@remicy Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it and congrats on beating it!
@dejvo Thanks! It's definitely possible.
@mrerdalural Thank you too for playing and leaving a nice comment!
@renatopp Thank you very much! Glad to see you like most of the game. I didn't really think about the speed of the player that much but you're actually right, thanks for pointing that out.
@nuebomundo Thanks a lot! With all the nice feedback I got I'm definitely thinking of expanding it into a full game.
@ava-skoog Thank you very much for the extensive feedback! Really happy you loved the graphics so much. I agree with your criticism and will definitely take it into account if I continue work on the game. Thanks for reporting the bug, I'll fix it.
@gurkenlabs Thanks a lot! I really like your idea for a second interaction with the asteroids!
@norrimo Thanks! The end boss would be a planet bigger than your screen, haha!
@maggardjosh Thank you! Congrats on beating the game.
@stevenjmiller Thank you very much! Means a lot you think it's the best use of the theme so far. Congrats on beating the game!
@mikea Thanks! I'd sure like to continue work on it though I don't know if I'd make it for mobile. We'll see.
@citsua Thank you! Glad you liked the orbiting asteroid animation. Hope you try again.
@thunraz Thanks a lot! Nice to hear you think my planet is the cutest. I would've added sound if I didn't run out of time...
@adamd Thank you very much! I'm definitely thinking about turning it into a bigger game.
@wevel Thank you! Yeah I've noticed the problem with asteroids being to close together, just didn't know how to easily fix it so I left it that way.
@invader Thanks! Really glad you like the mechanic.
@tselmek Thanks a lot! So nice to hear you think it's unique. The face of the planet is the clue even though if I continue work on it I will add a player health bar. I would've added sound if I didn't run out of time.
@zorg Thanks for your comment! Grabbing radius is definitely something I'd tweak, also a way to see what the grabbing radius is. Hope you'll try again later.
@pmarincak Thank you very much! I hope different is good.
and it's amazing *---*
The mechanics flow is smooth like melting butter (wat did I just say)
Your art is way inspiring for me. Is this a compo entry? (I'm asking because there aren't any members listed)
I only wish it was longer, buy LD games seems destined to be short :Ç
I'd really enjoy an expanded version of this game (with upgrades, maybe asteroids that cause effects on the little planet when you attract them).
Congratulations man (or woman)!
The controls feel very good! I only could not beat the other planet. A Healthbar for the other planet would be helpful!
Overall very good polished game!
Kinda expected more, you could easily add more easier smaller bosses or something before going to a big fight.
overall, it was fun :)
Can't really add much more than has been said. Audio, healthbar and edge wrapping or collision would have been nice but it was fun regardless.
Your pixel art is awesome and faces on planets is adorable :P
It was really hard to beat boss, but nevertheless, good job!
