Genesis Planet Kit by designernap

[raw]
made by designernap for LD 38 (COMPO)

Young Bobo is a space fanatic and in his suburban 1980's bedroom, he has managed to fully assemble his birthday present, A Glenn Chandler Genesis Planet Kit! Feeding ingredients into the machine should allow him the chance to create his own little world. What could possibly go wrong...

Based on the theme A Small World and heavily inspired by a short story I read when I was very young that has stayed with me my entire life. Bobo's Star by Glenn Chandler. Contained in this collection here - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Science-Fiction-Stories-Red-Reads/dp/0753410184

Having finished this game and thought about it a lot, I am very proud of it and happy with the end product... but I don't think anyone is going to enjoy it as much as me. I made it very difficult to understand how to "win" and most people will see the fail condition and give up. Which is kinda exactly what I wanted because it fits with the subject material and inspiration. However, if anyone DOES stick with it and manage to make a planet, the reward, I hope, should feel like quite the achievement. Honestly, if you had to make a planet in a vacuum chamber, it WOULD be very difficult.

I am not expecting high scores for FUN on this one! But I stick by it and am really happy that I made it. I hope you at least are mildly amused by the game if you don't enjoy it. Thank you for playing!

This game is truly a hidden gem! Really REALLY impressive for such a short time of development it just feels so polished. The visual effects when you create black hole are just astonishing. Good job on recreating 80's style and setting great mood. You are right that many people might get discouraged quit fast but well... i will definietly come back to this game and play more when i will get more time. Congratulations man!

Excellent work on this one again Napper, it's difficult but there is so much mystery in getting it right which might not always be a bad thing. Also, black holes are cool so who cares if they destroy everything

Looking forward to what comes next!

That was amazing! Loving the 70s wallpaper, the very simple spin round the room was glorious, and who'd of thought that some space tea in my world creation would have gone so badly!!! When I made my black hole, my partner could hear the game but had no idea what I was doing, I told him I had made a black hole, suddenly everything was clear! Really love your instruction manual too!

Very slick, loved the art direction and all the small details. Interaction with the various objects and the machine worked really well too. Haven't gotten the win condition yet, but going to try again in a bit!
